喜び叫ぶ天の大群衆
1この後、私は、天からおびただしい群衆の叫び声を聞きました。「ハレルヤ、主を賛美せよ。救いは神からの贈り物、誉れと権威は神だけのものです。 2その審判は正しく、真実だからです。神は、不品行によって地上に悪をはびこらせた、あの淫乱な女を処罰し、神に仕える者たちが殺されたことに復讐されたのです。」 3彼らは、くり返し主を賛美しました。「主をほめたたえよ。彼女の焼かれる煙は永遠に立ちのぼる。」 4すると、二十四人の長老と四つの生き物はひれ伏し、王座におられる神を礼拝して、「アーメン、ハレルヤ。主を賛美せよ」と言いました。 5また、王座から声がしました。「神を恐れ、神に仕えているすべての者よ。小さい者も大きい者も、神をほめたたえよ。」
6そのとき私は、大群衆の叫び声や、海岸に打ち寄せる大波、激しい雷鳴のとどろきのような声を聞きました。「主を賛美せよ。主である全能の神が支配なさる時が来た。 7さあ、大いに喜び楽しみ、神をほめたたえよう。小羊の結婚の時が来て、花嫁のしたくも整った。 8花嫁は、輝くばかりの、きよく真っ白な麻布の衣を着せられた。」この麻布は、クリスチャンの正しい行いを表しているのです。 9天使は、次のことばを書きとめるよう促しました。「小羊の婚宴に招かれた人は幸いです。」天使はまた、こう付け加えました。「これは神の口から出たことばです。」 10そのとき私は、天使の足もとにひれ伏して、礼拝しようとしました。すると天使は、「何をするのです。そんなことはやめなさい。私も、神に仕える者にすぎません。あなたや、イエスへの信仰を明らかにしているクリスチャンたちと同じ者です。すべての預言も、いま私が告げたすべてのことばも、ただイエスをあかしするためです。」
王の王の勝利
11それから天が開かれ、私は、そこに白い馬を見ました。その馬に乗っているのは、「忠実、また真実」と呼ばれ、正しいさばきをし、戦いをなさる方です。 12目は炎のように輝き、頭にはたくさんの冠をかぶっていました。額には名前が記されていましたが、その意味を知っているのはご自分だけでした。 13この方は血に染まった衣を着ていて、「神のことば」という名で呼ばれました。 14天の軍勢はきよく真っ白な麻布を身につけ、白馬にまたがって彼に従いました。 15この方は、諸国の民を打つために、鋭い剣をくわえておられました。そして、鉄のような手で、国々を完全に支配なさり、また、全能の神の激しい怒りに満たされた酒ぶねを踏まれます。 16その衣とももには、「王の王、主の主」という名が記されていました。
17そのとき私は、光の中に立つ一人の天使が、大声で空高く飛んでいるすべての鳥に呼びかけるのを見ました。「さあ、集まりなさい。偉大な神の祝宴の始まりです。 18さあ、王、司令官、偉大な将軍、馬と乗り手、それから大きい者と小さい者、奴隷と自由人のすべての肉を食べなさい。」
19それから私は、悪い獣が地の支配者と軍勢とを召集し、馬に乗っておられる方とその軍勢とに、戦いをいどんでいるのを見ました。 20しかし、悪い獣は捕らえられ、続いて偽預言者も縛り上げられました。この偽預言者は、悪い獣と手を組んで人々を奇跡で驚かせ、獣の刻印を受けた者や、獣を拝む者たちを惑わしていたのです。結局、悪い獣も偽預言者も、硫黄の燃えさかる火の池に、生きたまま投げ込まれました。 21彼らに従った軍勢もまた、白い馬にまたがる方の鋭い剣で殺されました。すると、天の鳥がむさぼるように、その肉をついばんでしまいました。
Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall
1After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:
“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2for true and just are his judgments.
He has condemned the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”
3And again they shouted:
“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”
4The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:
“Amen, Hallelujah!”
5Then a voice came from the throne, saying:
“Praise our God,
all you his servants,
you who fear him,
both great and small!”
6Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
8Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
9Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
10At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
The Heavenly Warrior Defeats the Beast
11I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.”19:15 Psalm 2:9 He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
king of kings and lord of lords.
17And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.”
19Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.
