1ペトエルの息子ヨエルに、主から次のようなことばがありました。
いなごの来襲
2イスラエルの長老たちよ、聞きなさい。
すべての者よ、聞きなさい。
一生のうちに、いや、イスラエルの全歴史で、
これから話すようなことを、
聞いたことがあるだろうか。
3やがて時がきたら、
このことを子どもたちに話してやりなさい。
この恐ろしい話を代々語り伝えるのだ。
4歯のするどいいなごが作物を食いちぎると、
いなごの大群が残りを食いあさる。
そのあとをばったが襲い、
その残したものを、食い荒らすいなごがあさる。
5酔いどれどもよ、起きて泣け。
ぶどうがすべて荒らされ、
ぶどう酒がなくなったからだ。
6いなごの大群が地を覆う。
数えきれないほどの大群で、
ライオンのような鋭い歯を持った恐ろしい軍団だ。
7わたしのぶどうの木を荒らし、
いちじくの樹皮をはぎ取り、幹も枝も白く、
丸裸にしてしまう。
8婚約者の死を悲しむおとめのように、泣き悲しめ。
9主の神殿にささげる穀物とぶどう酒はなくなり、
祭司たちは喪に服す。
神に仕えるこの者たちの叫ぶ声を聞け。
10畑には作物がなく、
どこもかしこも嘆きと悲しみでいっぱいだ。
穀物も、ぶどうも、オリーブ油もなくなった。
11あなたがた農夫は衝撃を受けて打ちのめされる。
あなたがたぶどう栽培者は嘆く。
小麦も大麦もなくなったので、
嘆き悲しめ。
12ぶどうの木は枯れ、いちじくの木はしおれ、
ざくろは枯れ、りんごの木はしなびた実をつける。
すべての喜びが消えうせてしまった。
悲しみなさい
13祭司たちよ、荒布をまとえ。
神に仕える者たちよ、
祭壇の前で夜どおし泣き明かせ。
あなたがたに必要な穀物やぶどう酒のささげ物が、
もうないからだ。
14断食を布告し、
聖なる集会に集まるよう呼びかけなさい。
主の神殿に、長老たちと全国民を集め、
神の前で泣き悲しめ。
15ああ、恐ろしい刑罰の日がこようとしている。
全能のお方からの破壊がすぐそこまできている。
16食べ物が私たちの目の前から消え、
神の神殿では、
喜びも楽しみも終わってしまう。
17種は土の中で腐り、納屋や穀物倉もからっぽだ。
穀物は畑で枯れてしまった。
18家畜は腹をすかしてうめき、
牧草がないので途方に暮れている。
羊は悲しい鳴き声を上げる。
19主よ、助けてください。
暑さで牧草は枯れ、
木々はすべて焼き尽くされました。
20野の獣も、水がないので
あなたに助けを求めています。
小川は干上がり、牧場は乾ききっています。
1The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. 2Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. 8¶ Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. 9The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD’s ministers, mourn. 10The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. 11Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished. 12The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men. 13Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
14¶ Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,1.14 solemn…: or, day of restraint 15Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. 16Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? 17The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.1.17 seed: Heb. grains 18How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. 19O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.1.19 pastures: or, habitations 20The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
