イスラエルに対する主の訴え
1さあ、主がご自分の民に話そうとしていることを
聞きなさい。
「立ち上がって、わたしに対する反対を
述べてみるがいい。
山や丘を呼び寄せて、
あなたの訴えについて証人になってもらえ。
2山々よ、主の訴えに耳を傾けよ。
主はご自分の民イスラエルに、言いたいことがある。
主は彼らを容赦なく告訴する。
3わたしの民よ、なぜ、わたしに背くのか。
わたしがどんな悪いことをしたというのだ。
なぜ我慢できなくなったのか。
はっきり答えよ。
4わたしはあなたをエジプトから連れ出し、
奴隷の鎖を断ち切った。
あなたを助けるために、
モーセ、アロン、ミリヤムを送ったのだ。
5わたしの民よ、忘れたのか。
モアブの王バラクが、ベオルの子バラムにのろわせて、
あなたを滅ぼそうとした時のことを。
わたしはバラムに、あなたをのろうどころか、
かえって祝福させたのだ。
このように幾度も、あなたに好意を示した。
シティムやギルガルで起こったことも、
そこであなたを祝福したことも、
みんな忘れてしまったのか。」
6あなたは尋ねます。
「私たちがやったことを、どうしたら償えるでしょうか。
一歳の子牛をささげて、
主の前にひれ伏したらよいのですか。」
そうではありません。
7主は、幾千の雄羊と、幾万の川となるくらいの
オリーブ油をささげたら、喜ぶでしょうか。
満足するでしょうか。
長子をいけにえとしてささげたら、
主を喜ばせることになるでしょうか。
そして、罪を赦してもらえるでしょうか。
もちろん違います。
8神は望んでいることをあなたに告げたました。
すなわち、えこひいきせず、公平で、
あわれみ深くあること、
また、謙遜にあなたの神と共に歩むことです。
イスラエルの罪と罰
9主の声はエルサレム中に響き渡ります。
賢い人は主に耳を傾けなさい。
「侵入軍がやって来る。
主がそれを送っているのだ。
10あなたの罪があまりにもひどいからだ。
人をだまして金を巻き上げることを、いつやめるのか。
悪者の家は、

11人を欺く偽りの重りを使う商人に、
わたしは『それでよい』などと言うだろうか。
公正である神が、どうしてそんなことを言えようか。
12金持ちは、脅しと暴力で富を得ている。
市民は、偽りを言うことに慣れているので、
その舌は真実を語れない。
13それゆえ、あなたを痛い目に会わせよう。
罪を犯した罰に、みじめな思いをさせる。
14あなたは食べても満腹せず、
いつも飢えで苦しみ、空腹感に悩まされる。
いくら金をためようとしても、何も残らない。
ほんのわずかな蓄えも、
わたしはあなたを征服する者に渡す。
15種をまいても収穫することはなく、
オリーブを絞っても自分の体に塗るほどの油も出ない。
ぶどうを踏んでも、
ぶどう酒を作るだけのぶどう液は得られない。
16あなたがたはオムリの命令しか守らず、
アハブの例にならうだけだ。
それゆえ、見せしめのためにあなたがたを滅ぼす。
あなたがたは世界中の物笑いになる。
あなたがたを見る者はみな、さんざんあざけるだろう。」
The Lord’s case against Israel
1Listen to what the Lord says:
‘Stand up, plead my case before the mountains;
let the hills hear what you have to say.
2‘Hear, you mountains, the Lord’s accusation;
listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth.
For the Lord has a case against his people;
he is lodging a charge against Israel.
3‘My people, what have I done to you?
How have I burdened you? Answer me.
4I brought you up out of Egypt
and redeemed you from the land of slavery.
I sent Moses to lead you,
also Aaron and Miriam.
5My people, remember
what Balak king of Moab plotted
and what Balaam son of Beor answered.
Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal,
that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord.’
6With what shall I come before the Lord
and bow down before the exalted God?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
with calves a year old?
7Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly6:8 Or prudently with your God.
Israel’s guilt and punishment
9Listen! The Lord is calling to the city –
and to fear your name is wisdom –
‘Heed the rod and the One who appointed it.6:9 The meaning of the Hebrew for this line is uncertain.
10Am I still to forget your ill-gotten treasures, you wicked house,
and the short ephah,6:10 An ephah was a dry measure. which is accursed?
11Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales,
with a bag of false weights?
12Your rich people are violent;
your inhabitants are liars
and their tongues speak deceitfully.
13Therefore, I have begun to destroy you,
to ruin6:13 Or Therefore, I will make you ill and destroy you; / I will ruin you because of your sins.
14You will eat but not be satisfied;
your stomach will still be empty.6:14 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain.
You will store up but save nothing,
because what you save6:14 Or You will press towards birth but not give birth, / and what you bring to birth I will give to the sword.
15You will plant but not harvest;
you will press olives but not use the oil,
you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.
16You have observed the statutes of Omri
and all the practices of Ahab’s house;
you have followed their traditions.
Therefore I will give you over to ruin
and your people to derision;
