悪魔に試される
1それからイエスは、聖霊に導かれて荒野に出て行かれました。悪魔に試されるためでした。 2イエスはそこで、まる四十日間、何一つ口にされなかったので、空腹を覚えられました。 3悪魔が誘いかけてきたのは、その時です。「ここに転がっている石をパンに変えてみたらどうだ。そうすれば、あなたが神の子だということがわかる。」
4しかしイエスは、お答えになりました。「いいえ。聖書には、『人はただパンだけで生きるのではなく、神の口から出る一つ一つのことばによる』（申命８・３）と書いてある。わたしたちは、神のすべてのことばに従うべきなのです。」
5すると悪魔は、イエスをエルサレムに連れて行き、神殿の一番高い所に立たせて言いました。 6「さあ、ここから飛び降りてみろ。そうすれば、あなたが神の子だということがわかるだろう。聖書に、『神は、天使を送って、あなたを支えさせ、あなたが岩の上に落ちて砕かれることのないように守られる』（詩篇91・11―12）と、はっきり書いてあるのだから。」
7イエスは言い返されました。「『あなたの神である主を試してはならない』（申命9・16）とも書いてあるではないか。」
8次に悪魔は、非常に高い山の頂上にイエスを連れて行きました。そして、世界の国々とその繁栄ぶりとを見せ、 9「さあ、ひざまずいて、この私を拝みさえすれば、これを全部あなたにやろう」とそそのかしました。
10「立ち去れ、サタン！ 『神である主だけを礼拝し、主にだけ従え』（申命6・13）と聖書に書いてあるではないか。」イエスは悪魔を一喝しました。
11すると悪魔は退散し、天使たちが来て、イエスに仕えました。
宣教を始める
12イエスはヨハネが捕らえられたと聞くと、ユダヤを去って、ガリラヤのナザレにお帰りになり、 13まもなくゼブルンとナフタリに近い、ガリラヤ湖畔のカペナウムに移られました。 14これは、イザヤの預言が実現するためでした。
15-16「ゼブルンとナフタリの地、海沿いの道、
ヨルダン川の向こう岸、
多くの外国人が住んでいる北ガリラヤ。
そこで暗闇の中にうずくまっていた人たちは、
大きな光を見た。
死の陰の地に座っていた彼らの上に、
光が差した。」（イザヤ9・1―2）
17その時から、イエスは宣教を始められました。「悔い改めて神に立ち返りなさい。神の国が近づいているから。」
18ある日、イエスがガリラヤ湖の岸辺を歩いておられると、シモン〔別名ペテロ〕とアンデレの二人の兄弟が舟に乗り、網で漁をしているのに出会いました。彼らは漁師でした。
19イエスが、「わたしについて来なさい。人間をとる漁師にしてあげよう」と声をおかけになると、 20二人はすぐに網を捨て、イエスについて行きました。
21しばらく行ったところで、今度は別の二人の兄弟ヤコブとヨハネが、父のゼベダイといっしょに舟の中で網を直しているのを見つけ、そこでも、ついて来るようにと声をおかけになりました。 22彼らはすぐ仕事をやめ、父をあとに残して、イエスについて行きました。
23イエスはガリラヤ中を旅して、ユダヤ人の会堂で教え、あらゆる場所で福音（イエス・キリストによる救いの知らせ）を宣べ伝え、さらに、あらゆる病気や苦しみをいやされました。 24このイエスの奇跡の評判は、ガリラヤの外にまで広がったので、シリヤのような遠方からも、人々は病人を連れてやって来ました。悪霊につかれた人、てんかんの人、中風（脳の出血などによる半身不随、手足のまひ等の症状）の人など、その病気や苦しみがどのようなものであろうと、一人残らず治るのです。 25こうして、イエスがどこに行かれても、たいへんな数の群衆があとをついて行きました。それは、ガリラヤ、デカポリス、エルサレム、ユダヤのあらゆる所から来た人々で、中にはヨルダン川の向こうから来た人もいました。
1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
12¶ Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; 13And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: 14That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, 15The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 16The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
17¶ From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18¶ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. 21And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
23¶ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. 24And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. 25And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
