天の御国とはどのようなもの？
1天の御国（神が支配される国、生き方）がどのようなものかを教えようと、イエスはまた幾つかのたとえ話をなさいました。
2「たとえば天の御国は、王子のために盛大な結婚披露宴を準備した王のようなものです。 3大ぜいの客が招待されました。宴会の準備がすっかり整ったので、王は使いを送り、招待客を呼びに行かせました。ところが、みな出席を断ってきたのです。 4それで王は、もう一度別の使いをやり、こう言わせました。『何もかも用意ができました。肉も焼き始めています。おいでを待つばかりです。』
5ところが、招待客はそれを気にかけず、ある者は農場へ、ある者は自分の店へと出かけて行きました。 6そればかりか、中には王の使者に恥をかかせたり、なぐったり、殺してしまう者さえいました。
7これを聞いて怒った王は、すぐさま軍兵を出動させ、人殺しどもを滅ぼし、彼らの町を焼き払ってしまいました。 8そして王は、『披露宴の準備はできたというのに、招いておいた者たちはそれにふさわしくなかった。 9さあ、町へ行って、出会う者は片っぱしから、みな招くのだ』と命じました。
10王の使者たちは、命令どおり、善人悪人の区別なく、だれでも招待しました。宴会場は客でいっぱいです。 11ところが、王が客に会おうと出て来ると、用意しておいた婚礼の礼服を着ていない客が一人います。 12『礼服もつけずに、どうしてここへ入って来たのか』と尋ねましたが、その男は何とも返事をしません。
13それで王は、側近の者たちに命じました。『この男の手足を縛って、外の暗闇に放り出しなさい。そこで泣いてくやしがるのだ。』 14招待される人は多くても、選ばれる人は少ないのです。」
15そのころパリサイ人たちは、イエスをわなにかけて逮捕のきっかけになることを言わせようと、知恵をしぼっていました。 16そして、数人の仲間をヘロデ党（ヘロデを支持する政治的な一派）の者たちといっしょにイエスのところへやり、こう質問させました。「先生。あなたがたいへん正直なお方で、だれをも恐れず、また人をえこひいきもなさらず、いつも堂々と真理を教えておられることは、よく存じ上げております。 17それで、ぜひともお教え願いたいのですが、ローマ政府に税金を納めることは正しいことでしょうか。それともよくないことでしょうか。」
18イエスは、彼らの策略を見抜いて言われました。「偽善者たち。わたしをわなにかけようというのですか。 19さあ、銀貨を出して見せなさい。」
20銀貨を受け取ったイエスは、彼らに問いました。「ここに刻まれているのは、だれの肖像ですか。その下にある名前はだれのものですか。」 21「カイザル（ローマ皇帝）のです。」「そのとおりです。ローマ皇帝のものなら、それはローマ皇帝に返しなさい。しかし神のものは全部、神に返さなければなりません。」
22彼らはこの答えに驚き、返すことばもなく、すごすごとイエスの前から立ち去りました。
23ちょうど同じ日に、死後の復活などはないと主張するサドカイ人たちも来て、イエスに尋ねました。 24「先生。モーセの律法では、ある男が結婚して子どものないまま死んだ場合、弟が兄の未亡人と結婚して、生まれた子どもに兄のあとを継がせることになっています。 25ところで、こういう場合はどうなるのでしょう。七人兄弟の家族があって、長男は結婚しましたが、子どもがないまま死んだので、残された未亡人は次男の妻になりました。 26ところが、次男も子どもがないまま死に、その妻は三男のものになりました。しかし、三男も四男も同じようになり、ついにこの女は、七人兄弟全部の妻になりましたが、結局、子どもはできずじまいでした。 27そして、彼女も死にました。 28そうすると、復活の時には、彼女はいったいだれの妻になるのでしょう。生前、七人とも彼女を妻にしたのですが。」
29しかし、イエスは言われました。「あなたがたは聖書も神の力もわかっていません。思い違いをしています。 30いいですか。復活の時には、結婚などというものはありません。みんなが天使のようになるのです。 31-32ところで、死人が復活するかどうかについて、聖書を読んだことがないのですか。神が、『わたしはアブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神である』と言われた時〔すでに死んでしまったアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブがいま神の御前で生きていなければ、神は『アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神であった』と言われるはずです〕、あなたがたにも直接そう語りかけておられたのだということが、わからないのですか。神は死んだ人の神ではなく、生きている人の神なのです。」
一番重要な戒め
33群衆はこのイエスの答えに、すっかり感心しました。 34-35しかし、パリサイ人たちはそうはいきません。サドカイ人たちが言い負かされたと知ると、彼らは彼らで新しい質問を考え出し、さっそくイエスのところにやって来ました。その中の律法の専門家が、 36「先生。モーセの律法の中で一番重要な戒めは何でしょうか」と尋ねました。
37イエスはお答えになりました。「『心を尽くし、たましいを尽くし、思いを尽くして、あなたの神である主を愛しなさい。』 38これが第一で、最も重要な戒めです。 39第二も同じように重要で、『自分を愛するように、あなたの隣人を愛しなさい』という戒めです。 40ほかのすべての戒めと預言者たちの命令も、この二つから出ています。ですから、この二つを守れば、ほかの戒めを全部守ったことになるのです。これを守りなさい。」
41それから、イエスは、回りを取り囲んでいるパリサイ人たちに質問されました。 42「キリストをどう思いますか。彼はいったいだれの子ですか。」「ダビデ王の子です。」
43「それでは、なぜダビデは聖霊に動かされて語った時、このように、キリストを『主』と呼んだのでしょうか。
44『神が私の主に言われた。
「わたしがあなたの敵を
あなたの足の下に置くまで、
わたしの右に座っていなさい。」』（詩篇11・1）
45ダビデがキリストを『主』と呼んでいるのなら、キリストが、ただのダビデの子であるわけはありません。」
46これには、返すことばもありませんでした。その日以来、だれも、あえてイエスに質問しようとする者はいませんでした。
The Story of the Wedding Dinner
1Jesus told them more stories. He said, 2“Here is what the kingdom of heaven is like. A king prepared a wedding dinner for his son. 3He sent his slaves to those who had been invited to the dinner. The slaves told them to come. But they refused.
4“Then he sent some more slaves. He said, ‘Tell those who were invited that I have prepared my dinner. I have killed my oxen and my fattest cattle. Everything is ready. Come to the wedding dinner.’
5“But the people paid no attention. One went away to his field. Another went away to his business. 6The rest grabbed his slaves. They treated them badly and then killed them. 7The king became very angry. He sent his army to destroy them. They killed those murderers and burned their city.
8“Then the king said to his slaves, ‘The wedding dinner is ready. But those I invited were not fit to come. 9So go to the street corners. Invite to the dinner anyone you can find.’ 10So the slaves went out into the streets. They gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good. Soon the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11“The king came in to see the guests. He noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ The man couldn’t think of anything to say.
13“Then the king told his slaves, ‘Tie up his hands and feet. Throw him outside into the darkness. Out there people will weep and grind their teeth.’
14“Many are invited, but few are chosen.”
Is It Right to Pay the Royal Tax to Caesar?
15The Pharisees went out. They made plans to trap Jesus with his own words. 16They sent their followers to him. They sent the Herodians with them. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of honor. You teach the way of God truthfully. You don’t let others tell you what to do or say. You don’t care how important they are. 17Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar or not?”
18But Jesus knew their evil plans. He said, “You pretenders! Why are you trying to trap me? 19Show me the coin people use for paying the tax.” They brought him a silver coin. 20He asked them, “Whose picture is this? And whose words?”
21“Caesar’s,” they replied.
Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar. And give back to God what belongs to God.”
22When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.
Marriage When the Dead Rise
23That same day the Sadducees came to Jesus with a question. They do not believe that people rise from the dead. 24“Teacher,” they said, “here is what Moses told us. If a man dies without having children, his brother must get married to the widow. He must provide children to carry on his brother’s name. 25There were seven brothers among us. The first one got married and died. Since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26The same thing happened to the second and third brothers. It happened right on down to the seventh brother. 27Finally, the woman died. 28Now then, when the dead rise, whose wife will she be? All seven of them were married to her.”
29Jesus replied, “You are mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures. And you do not know the power of God. 30When the dead rise, they won’t get married. And their parents won’t give them to be married. They will be like the angels in heaven. 31What about the dead rising? Haven’t you read what God said to you? 32He said, ‘I am the God of Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. And I am the God of Jacob.’ (Exodus 3:6) He is not the God of the dead. He is the God of the living.”
33When the crowds heard this, they were amazed by what he taught.
The Most Important Commandment
34The Pharisees heard that the Sadducees weren’t able to answer Jesus. So the Pharisees got together. 35One of them was an authority on the law. So he tested Jesus with a question. 36“Teacher,” he asked, “which is the most important commandment in the Law?”
37Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.’ (Deuteronomy 6:5) 38This is the first and most important commandment. 39And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Leviticus 19:18) 40Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments.”
Whose Son Is the Messiah?
41The Pharisees were gathered together. Jesus asked them, 42“What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”
“The son of David,” they replied.
43He said to them, “Then why does David call him ‘Lord’? The Holy Spirit spoke through David himself. David said,
44“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your control.” ’ (Psalm 110:1)
45So if David calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be David’s son?” 46No one could give any answer to him. From that day on, no one dared to ask him any more questions.
