どんな時にも聖書を教える
1それで私は、神とキリスト・イエスとの御前で、厳粛な思いで忠告します。〔キリストは、いつの日か神の国を完成させるために現れて、生きている者と死んだ者とをさばかれるお方です。〕 2どんな時にも、神のことばを熱心に伝えなさい。機会があろうとなかろうと、つごうが良かろうと悪かろうと、しっかりやりなさい。過ちを犯している人には忠告して、正しい道に引き戻しなさい。そして善を行うよう励まし、神のことばを教え続けなさい。 3なぜなら、人々が真理のことばを耳ざわりだと敬遠し、自分につごうの良い話をする教師を求めて歩き回る時代が来るからです。 4彼らは聖書の教えに耳を傾けようとせず、まちがった教えにしっぽを振ってついて行くのです。 5ですから、危機感をもって目を覚まし、警戒していなさい。主のために受ける苦しみを、恐れてはいけません。なすべきことを十分になして、他の人たちをキリストへ導きなさい。
6こう言うのも、私の最期が迫っているからです。いつまでもあなたを助け続けるわけにはいきません。もうすぐ天国へ旅立ちます。 7主のために、長いあいだ困難な戦いを続けてきた私は、主への真実を守り通しました。しかし今、ついに、休む時が来たのです。 8天では栄冠が待っています。正しい裁判官である主が再び来られる日にいただく冠です。もちろん私だけにではなく、主を熱心に待ち望む人々全員に授けられるのです。
最後の指示
9テモテよ。できるだけ早く、こちらへ来てください。 10-11デマスはこの世の楽しみに心を奪われ、私を捨て、テサロニケに行ってしまいました。クレスケンスはガラテヤへ、テトスはダルマテヤへ出かけ、私のもとに残ったのはルカだけです。こちらへは、マルコも連れて来てください。彼に頼みたいことがあるのです。 12〔テキコも、今はここにいません。エペソへ使いにやりました。〕 13ついでに、私がトロアスのカルポの家に置いてきた上着を持って来てください。それから羊皮紙の書物も、お願いします。 14銅細工人アレキサンデルが、私にひどい仕打ちをしました。主が罰してくださるでしょうが、 15彼には気をつけなさい。私たちのことばに、ことごとく逆らったからです。
16私が初めて、裁判官の前に連れ出された時、弁護してくれる人は一人もいませんでした。だれもが見捨てて、逃げてしまったのです。どうかそのことで、彼らが神から責められませんように。 17しかし主は共にいて、私を助けてくださいました。神のことばがあらゆる国の人に伝えられるため、大胆に福音を語る機会を与えてくださいました。また、あわやライオンのえじきとなるところを、助け出してくださいました。 18主は、いつもあらゆる悪から救い出し、ついには、天国に導き入れてくださるのです。神に、栄光がいつまでも限りなくありますように。アーメン。
19プリスカとアクラに、またオネシポロの家族に、よろしく伝えてください。 20エラストはコリントにとどまり、トロピモは病気のため、ミレトに残して来ました。 21冬になる前に、何とかこちらへ来てください。ユブロがよろしくとのことです。プデス、リノス、クラウデヤ、そのほかのクリスチャンもみんな、よろしくと言っています。
22主イエス・キリストがあなたがたと共におられますように。

1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 6For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
9Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: 10For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. 11Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry. 12And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus. 13The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments. 14Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works: 15Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words. 16At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 17Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
19Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick. 21Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren. 22The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.
