自分の信仰を訓練する
1しかし、聖霊がはっきりと予告されたように、終末の時代には悪霊の教えを広める教師が現れ、教会の中からも、キリストから離れてその熱心な弟子になる者が出ます。 2そのような教師は平気でうそをつき、しかもそれを何度もくり返すので、良心が完全にまひしています。 3彼らは結婚を禁じたり、肉を食べることを禁じたりします。しかし食物は、神が私たちに喜び楽しむようにと備えてくださったものです。 4神がお造りになったものはみな良い物で、感謝して受ければ、何一つ捨てる必要はありません。 5神のことばと感謝の祈りによって、きよめられるからです。
6このことを、ほかの人たちにはっきり教えなさい。そうすれば、あなたは牧師の義務をりっぱに果たしたことになるのです。牧師は、自らの信仰と、従ってきた真理の教えとによって成長するのです。 7愚かな理論や作り話の議論で、むだな時間を費やしてはなりません。むしろ、時間と労力とを有効に使って、いつも霊的に高められるよう自分を訓練しなさい。 8体の訓練も大いにけっこうですが、霊の訓練はさらに大切であり、あらゆる行動の原動力になるのです。ですから、あなたは霊の訓練に励み、もっとすぐれたクリスチャンを目指しなさい。そうすることは、今の地上の生活のためだけでなく、未来の生活にも役立つからです。 9これは、万人に共通の真理です。 10この真理を人々が信じるように、私たちは多くの苦しみに会いながらも一心に励んできました。それは私たちが、生ける神に希望を託しているからです。神はすべての人のために、特にその救いを受け入れた人たちのために、死んで復活されたお方なのです。 11これらのことを、どんな人にも十分理解できるように教えなさい。
12年が若いからといって、軽く見られてはいけません。かえって人々の模範になりなさい。あなたが、ことばと態度によって教えていることを、人々にも実行させなさい。愛、信仰、純潔の良い模範を示しなさい。 13私がそちらに行くまで、教会で聖書を朗読し、その内容を教え、神のことばを伝えなさい。
与えられた能力を生かす
14あなたが任職に当たって教会の長老たちの按手（頭に手を置いて祈る）を受けた時、神が預言を通して与えてくださった聖霊の賜物（神の恵みによって一人一人に与えられたもの）を大切にしなさい。 15それを十分に活用して、今の仕事に全身全霊、打ち込みなさい。そうすれば、あなたの進歩と向上がすべての人に明らかになるでしょう。 16自分自身と教えることに、いつも気をつけなさい。正しいことには、あくまでも忠実でありなさい。そうすれば、神はあなたを祝福し、他の人たちを助けるのに役立つ者としてくださいます。
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,4:6 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family. you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. 10That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
11Command and teach these things. 12Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
