変わらない信仰を持って
1愛する皆さん。この手紙を書き終えるにあたって、お願いしたいことがあります。どうか、私たちのために祈ってください。主のことばが至る所で急速に広まり、あなたがたのところで起きたと同じように、各地で救われる人が起きるように祈ってください。 2また、私たちが悪い者たちの手から救い出されるように祈ってください。すべての人が、主を愛しているわけではありませんから。
3しかし、主は真実な方ですから、あなたがたに力を与え、悪魔のどんな攻撃からも守ってくださいます。 4私たちは主に信頼しているので、あなたがたが私たちから教えられたことを現に実行しており、これからもその態度は変わらないと確信しています。
5どうか、主の導きによって、神の愛とキリストの忍耐とを、あなたがたがますます深く理解しますように。
まじめに働き生活しなさい
6最後に、皆さん。ここで私たちは、主イエス・キリストの名により、その権威を受けて命じます。私たちが身をもって示した教えに従わず、何もせずにだらだらと日を過ごしている人たちとは絶交しなさい。 7どういう生活をすればよいかは、もうよくわかっているはずです。私たちは、そちらで、だらしのない生活をしたことはありません。それを手本にしてください。 8私たちは、だれからも、ただでパンをもらいませんでした。だれにも負担をかけたくなかったので、必要な物は、昼夜働いて得た収入で手に入れました。 9私たちにそれを要求する権利がなかったからではなく、自分の生活は自分で支えるという模範を、身をもって示したかったのです。 10そちらにいた時にも、「働かない者は食べる資格がない」と教えたはずです。
11ところが聞くところによると、あなたがたの中には働くのをいやがり、一日中ぶらぶらして、うわさ話ばかりしている人がいるということです。 12そういう人たちに、主イエス・キリストの名によって忠告し、また命じます。腰を落ち着けて、まじめに仕事に精を出し、自活できるようになりなさい。 13それから、あなたがたには、いつでも正しい行いをしてほしいものです。
14もし、この手紙に書いた指示に聞き従わない者がいれば、そのような人には特に注意し、交際しないようにしなさい。自らそのことに気づいて恥じ入らせるためです。 15しかし、その人を敵視するのではなく、兄弟に対するように忠告しなさい。
16どうか、どんな場合にも、平和の主があなたがたに平安を与え、あなたがたと共にいてくださいますように。
17この最後のあいさつは、私の自筆です。どの手紙にもそうしています。 18どうか、主イエス・キリストの祝福が、あなたがた一同の上にありますように。

1Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. 3But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 4And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 5And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
6Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. 7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; 8Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: 9Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us. 10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. 13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. 14And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. 15Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. 16Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
17The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. 18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
