苦しみには意味がある
3愛する皆さん。私は、神にたいへん感謝しています。それは、あなたがたの信仰がめざましく成長し、互いがますます深い愛で結ばれているからです。それを思うと、神に対する感謝の思いが自然にわき上がってきます。もちろん、感謝して当然なのです。 4激しい迫害と苦難の真っただ中にあるにもかかわらず、あなたがたが忍耐しつつ、神への完全な信仰を守っていることを、私たちは諸教会の間で大いに誇っています。 5それは、あなたがたを神の国にふさわしい者と認める、神の裁定が正しいという証拠です。あなたがたは、この神の国のために苦しみを受けているのです。
6あなたがたを迫害する者たちには、その報いとして、さばきが下されます。 7そういうわけで、苦難のただ中にある、あなたがたに言っておきます。主イエス・キリストが力ある天使たちを従えて、燃え立つ炎の中に天から姿を現される時、神はあなたがたにも私たちにも、休息を与えてくださるのです。 8その時、神に目もくれなかった者や、主イエス・キリストによる神の救いの計画を拒んだ者には、恐るべきさばきが下ります。 9彼らは永遠の地獄で刑罰を受け、主の前から追放されて、二度と栄光に輝く主を見ることはありません。 10再び来られた主は、その日、ご自分のものであるクリスチャンたちによって、誉れと賞賛とをお受けになります。そして、私たちが伝えた神のことばを信じ抜いたあなたがたは、主と共に生きる者となるのです。
11そのためにも、いつも、あなたがたのことを思って祈っています。どうか神が、神の選びにふさわしい者として、あなたがたの信仰を評価してくださいますように。 12そうすれば、神によって変えられたあなたがたを見て、すべての人が主イエス・キリストの名を賛美するようになるでしょう。そして、あなたがたも、主のものになるという栄光を受けます。神と主イエス・キリストの恵みによって、そうしていただけるのです。

Thanksgiving and Prayer
3We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters,1:3 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 2:1, 13, 15; 3:1, 6, 13. and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. 4Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.
5All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might 10on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.
11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. 12We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.1:12 Or God and Lord, Jesus Christ
