イスラエルの王となったダビデ
1イスラエルの全部族の代表者たちは、ヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに来て言いました。「私たちは、あなたと血を分けた兄弟です。 2サウルが王であった時にも、ほんとうの指導者はあなたでした。主は、あなたこそイスラエルの指導者だとおっしゃっています。」
3ダビデは、ヘブロンに集まったイスラエルの指導者たちと主の前で契約を結び、彼らはダビデをイスラエルの王としました。 4-5ダビデはすでに三十歳の時から七年間、ユダの王であり、こののちエルサレムで三十三年間、イスラエルとユダの全土を治めることになったのです。ダビデが王位にあったのは、合わせて四十年になります。
ダビデの町エルサレム
6さてダビデは、エルサレムに入り込んでいたエブス人と戦うために、兵を率いてエルサレムへ向かいました。彼らはダビデにこう豪語しました。「おまえなどに攻め入られてたまるか。おまえなど、歩けない者であろうと、目の見えない者であろうと、だれにでも簡単につまみ出せるわ！」彼らは安心しきっていました。 7しかしダビデは、現在ダビデの町と呼ばれているシオンの要害を占領したのです。
8彼らの暴言を耳にしたダビデは、「地下水路を通って町に攻め上り、歩けない、目の見えない憎きエブス人を滅ぼせ」と命じました。このことから、「目の見えない者や足の不自由な者は宮に入ってはならない」と言われるようになったのです。
9ダビデは、このシオンの要害をダビデの町と呼び、自身の本拠地に定めました。ついで町の旧ミロ地区から北側に、現在のエルサレムの中心部に向かって城壁を築きました。 10ダビデの勢力はますます強大になっていきました。天地を支配される神、主が共にいたからです。
11ツロの王ヒラムからは、ダビデ王の宮殿建設のために、上等の木材、大工、石工が送られて来ました。 12今やダビデは、主が自分を王位につかせ、豊かな王国としてくださったのは、神がイスラエルの民を選び出し、特別な恵みを注ごうとされたからであると、はっきり知ったのです。
13ヘブロンからエルサレムに移ってからも、ダビデはさらに妻やそばめを迎え入れ、次々と息子や娘をもうけました。 14-16エルサレムで生まれた子たちは次のとおりです。シャムア、ショバブ、ナタン、ソロモン、イブハル、エリシュア、ネフェグ、ヤフィア、エリシャマ、エルヤダ、エリフェレテ。
ペリシテ人を倒したダビデ
17ペリシテ人は、ダビデがイスラエルの王になったと聞くと、何とか彼を捕らえようとしました。ペリシテ人来襲の報が伝わると、ダビデは直ちに要害に下って行きました。 18ペリシテ人は、レファイムの谷一帯に陣を張りました。
19「打って出て、戦うべきでしょうか。私は勝てるでしょうか。」ダビデは主に伺いを立てました。すると、「打って出なさい。ペリシテ人をあなたの手に渡そう」と主は答えました。 20そこでダビデは勇んで出陣し、バアル・ペラツィムで彼らと戦い、みごと打ち破りました。「主のおかげだ。主は押し寄せる洪水のように、敵をひと飲みになさった」とダビデが言ったので、そこはバアル・ペラツィム〔決壊〕と呼ばれるようになったのです。
21その時、ダビデ軍は、ペリシテ人が置き去りにしていった多くの偶像を運び捨てました。 22しかしペリシテ人はまたも反撃に出て来て、レファイムの谷間に陣を敷いたのです。 23ダビデは、どうすべきか再び主に伺いました。答えはこうでした。「正面から攻めないで、敵の背後に回り、バルサム樹の林から出て行きなさい。 24バルサム樹の林の上から行進の足音が聞こえたら、出陣しなさい。それは、わたしが道を備え、必ず敵を滅ぼすという合図である。」
25ダビデは命令どおりに行いました。そして、ゲバからゲゼルに至るまでペリシテ人を粉砕したのです。
David becomes king over Israel
1All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said, ‘We are your own flesh and blood. 2In the past, while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord said to you, “You shall shepherd my people Israel, and you shall become their ruler.” ’
3When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, the king made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.
4David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned for forty years. 5In Hebron he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah for thirty-three years.
David conquers Jerusalem
6The king and his men marched to Jerusalem to attack the Jebusites, who lived there. The Jebusites said to David, ‘You will not get in here; even the blind and the lame can ward you off.’ They thought, ‘David cannot get in here.’ 7Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion – which is the City of David.
8On that day David had said, ‘Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the water shaft to reach those “lame and blind” who are David’s enemies.5:8 Or are hated by David’ That is why they say, ‘The “blind and lame” will not enter the palace.’
9David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces5:9 Or the Millo inwards. 10And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.
11Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs and carpenters and stonemasons, and they built a palace for David. 12Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.
13After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him. 14These are the names of the children born to him there: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, 15Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, 16Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet.
David defeats the Philistines
17When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold. 18Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; 19so David enquired of the Lord, ‘Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?’
The Lord answered him, ‘Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.’
20So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, ‘As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.’ So that place was called Baal Perazim.5:20 Baal Perazim means the lord who breaks out. 21The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.
22Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; 23so David enquired of the Lord, and he answered, ‘Do not go straight up, but circle round behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees. 24As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the poplar trees, move quickly, because that will mean the Lord has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army.’ 25So David did as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon5:25 Septuagint (see also 1 Chron. 14:16); Hebrew Geba to Gezer.
