ダビデの最後のことば
1これは、ダビデの最後のことばです。
「エッサイの子ダビデは告げる。
ダビデ、神からすばらしい勝利と祝福を授けられた者。
ダビデ、ヤコブの神から油を注がれた（特別に選ばれた）者。
ダビデ、イスラエルの麗しい詩人。
2主の霊は私を通して語られた。
主のことばは私の舌にあった。
3イスラエルの岩である方が私に語られた。
『正しく治める者、神を恐れて治める者が来る。
4その人は、朝の光のよう、雲一つない朝焼けのようだ。
地に萌え出た若草に降り注ぐ
雨上がりの陽光のようだ。』
5まことに、神がわが家系をお選びくださった。
神は永遠の契約を、私と結んでくださった。
その約束は揺るがず、最後まで守られる。
神は常に、私の安全と成功を心にかけてくださる。
6しかし、神に背を向ける者は、
いばらのように投げ捨てられる。
7彼らは武装した者に切り捨てられ、
火で焼かれる。」
ダビデ軍の勇士たち
8ダビデ軍の中で最強の英雄三人の名を挙げるなら、筆頭はハクモニの子ヤショブアムで、一度の戦いで八百人を倒した勇士です。
9次は、ドドの子でアホアハ人のエルアザルです。彼も三勇士の一人で、ほかの者が逃げ出した時も、ダビデとともに踏みとどまってペリシテ人と戦いました。 10彼は次々にペリシテ人を打ち倒し、ついに手が疲れて、剣を握ることもできないほどでした。主は彼に輝かしい勝利を授けました。残りの兵士が引き返して来た時には、戦利品を集めるばかりになっていたのです。
11-12三人目は、ハラル出身のアゲの子シャマです。ペリシテ人が攻めて来た時、部下は彼を放って逃げ出しましたが、ただ一人レンズ豆畑の真ん中に踏みとどまって、敵を打ち倒したのです。こうして、主は大勝利をもたらしました。
13ダビデがアドラムのほら穴に潜み、攻め寄せるペリシテ人がレファイムの谷に陣取っていた時のことです。ちょうど刈り入れのころ、イスラエル軍の精鋭三十人の中から、この三人がダビデのもとを訪ねて来ました。 14当時、ダビデは要害に立てこもっていました。ペリシテ人の略奪隊がベツレヘム一帯を占領していたからです。 15そんなダビデの口をついて出るのは、いつも、「ああ、のどが渇いた。ベツレヘムの井戸のうまい水が飲みたい」ということばでした。その井戸は町の門のわきにありました。 16そこで三人の勇士は、ペリシテ人の陣営を突き破って井戸へ行き、くんで来た水をダビデに差し出しました。しかしダビデは、とてもその水を飲む気にはなれず、主にささげて注いだのです。 17ダビデは言いました。「主よ。どうしてこの水を飲めましょう。いのちをかけた人々の血ですから。」
18-19この三人のほかに、ツェルヤの子ヨアブの兄弟アビシャイも、非常に評判の高い人物でした。単身、三百人の敵を相手にして倒したこともありました。その武勲により、三勇士に負けないほどの名声を上げました。彼はイスラエル軍の幹部将校三十人の中では最もすぐれ、彼らのリーダーでした。
20このほか、エホヤダの子でベナヤというカブツェエル出身の勇士もいました。ベナヤは、モアブの豪傑二人を倒しました。ある時は、つるつるに凍った雪道にもかかわらず、ほら穴に下りて行き、中にいたライオンを殺しました。 21またある時は、杖一本で、槍を手にしたエジプト人戦士に立ち向かって倒しました。相手の手から槍をもぎ取って突き殺したのです。 22これらの手柄で、ベナヤは三勇士のように有名になりました。 23彼は、あの三勇士には及びませんでしたが、三十人の中で非常に評判の高い一人でした。ダビデは彼を護衛長に任じました。

David’s last words
1These are the last words of David:
‘The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse,
the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High,
the man anointed by the God of Jacob,
the hero of Israel’s songs:
2‘The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me;
his word was on my tongue.
3The God of Israel spoke,
the Rock of Israel said to me:
“When one rules over people in righteousness,
when he rules in the fear of God,
4he is like the light of morning at sunrise
on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
that brings grass from the earth.”
5‘If my house were not right with God,
surely he would not have made with me an everlasting covenant,
arranged and secured in every part;
surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation
and grant me my every desire.
6But evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns,
which are not gathered with the hand.
7Whoever touches thorns
uses a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear;
they are burned up where they lie.’

9Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty warriors, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim23:9 See 1 Chron. 11:13; Hebrew gathered there. for battle. Then the Israelites retreated, 10but Eleazar stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.
11Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel’s troops fled from them. 12But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory.
13During harvest time, three of the thirty chief warriors came down to David at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. 14At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. 15David longed for water and said, ‘Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!’ 16So the three mighty warriors broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the Lord. 17‘Far be it from me, Lord, to do this!’ he said. ‘Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?’ And David would not drink it.
Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors.
18Abishai the brother of Joab son of Zeruiah was chief of the Three.23:18 Most Hebrew manuscripts (see also 1 Chron. 11:20); two Hebrew manuscripts and Syriac Thirty He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three. 19Was he not held in greater honour than the Three? He became their commander, even though he was not included among them.
20Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 21And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear. 22Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty warriors. 23He was held in greater honour than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.
