1ほかの国々についてエレミヤが聞いた神のことばを、次に書き留めておきます。
エジプト人について――
2ユダ王国のヨシヤの子エホヤキム王が即位して四年目に、エジプトのネコ王の率いる軍隊が、ユーフラテス川沿岸のカルケミシュで、バビロンのネブカデネザル王に敗れた時、エジプトについて次のことばがありました。
3「エジプト人はよろいに身を固め、戦いに出て行け。
4馬に鞍をつけ、いつでも乗れるようにしておくのだ。
かぶとをかぶり、槍の穂先をみがき、よろいを着よ。
5だがどうしたわけか、
エジプトの軍勢は恐れに取りつかれて逃げて行く。
人一倍の武勇を誇る兵士さえ、
うしろを振り向きもせず、一目散に逃げる。
恐れが四方八方から彼らを取り囲む。
6どんなに足の速い者も、どんな勇士も、
逃げることはできない。
北のユーフラテス川のほとりで、
彼らはつまずき倒れる。
7洪水の時期のナイル川のようにわき上がり、
各地にあふれていくこの強大な軍隊は、
どこの国のものか。
8それは、すべての国々を洪水のように覆い、
すべての敵を破るとうそぶく、エジプトの軍隊だ。
9馬と戦車、それに無敵を誇るエジプト兵たちよ、
さあ、来なさい。
盾を取り、弓を引きしぼるエチオピヤ、
プテ、ルデの人たちも来るがいい。
10今日こそ、天の軍勢の主の日、
わたしが敵に復讐する日だ。
剣は、おまえたちの血に飽き、酔うまで働く。
今日、天の軍勢の主であるわたしに、
北の地ユーフラテス川のほとりで、
いけにえがささげられるからだ。
11エジプトの娘よ、薬を探しにギルアデに上れ。
だが、それでも、おまえの傷は治らない。
どんなに薬を使っても、元の健康は取り戻せない。
12国々はおまえの恥を聞いた。
地はおまえの絶望と敗北の叫び声で満ちる。
おまえの勇士たちは鉢合わせして、共に倒れる。」
13次に神は、バビロンのネブカデネザル王が
エジプトを攻撃することについて、こう語りました。
14「エジプトで、バビロン軍の来襲を大声で伝えよ。
ミグドル、メンピス、タフパヌヘスの町の人々に
言い広めよ。
滅びの剣が周囲を食い尽くすから、
兵士を集めて戦いの準備をせよ。
15なぜ、おまえたちの雄牛の神アピスは、
真っ青になって逃げたのか。
主が敵の前で、彼を打ちのめしたからだ。
16数えきれないほどの人が倒れ、死人の山ができる。
その時、ユダヤ人の残った者は言う。
『さあ、生まれ故郷のユダへ帰ろう。
こんな恐ろしい虐殺の現場から遠ざかろう。』
17エジプトの王ホフラの名を、
『力はないが、実に騒がしい男』と変える。」
18天の軍勢の主である王は、こう言います。
「タボル山か海に突き出たカルメル山のように
背の高い者が、エジプトに襲いかかる。
19エジプトの住民は、荷物をまとめ、
捕虜となって連れて行かれるしたくをせよ。
メンピスの町は根こそぎにされ、
一人も生き残らないからだ。
20-21エジプトは若い雌牛のように肌がつややかだ。
だが、北からあぶが飛んで来て彼女を追い回す。
名高い傭兵たちも、
おびえきった子牛のようになり、向きを変えて逃げる。
徹底的な罰がエジプトに下り、
大災害の見舞う時がきたからだ。
22-23エジプトは、蛇が身をくねらせて姿を消すように、
音もなく逃げる。
代わりに侵略軍が入って来て、
数えきれないほどの兵士が、
森の木立を切り払うきこりのように、
人々をなで切りにする。
24この北から来た民の前では、
エジプトは少女のように無力だ。」
25イスラエルの神である天の軍勢の主は、こう言います。「わたしはテーベの神アモン、その他のエジプトの神々を罰する。また、エジプト王と、王を頼りとするすべての者を罰する。 26彼らを、彼らを殺すことを生きがいとするバビロンのネブカデネザル王と、その軍隊の手に渡す。しかし後に、エジプトは戦争の荒廃から立ち直る。
27祖国に帰るわたしの民よ、
怖がったり、うろたえたりしてはならない。
わたしは遠くにいるおまえたちを救い、
おまえたちの子孫を遠くの国から連れ戻すからだ。
イスラエルは帰って来て平穏無事に住み、
何ものにもおびえない。
28わたしのしもべヤコブよ、恐れるな。
わたしがついている。
わたしは、おまえの寄留していたすべての国々を
滅ぼすが、おまえには手をかけない。
懲らしめはするが、
それはおまえを正しい者とするためだ。

12The nations have heard of thy shame, and thy cry hath filled the land: for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, and they are fallen both together.
13¶ The word that the LORD spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. 14Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand fast, and prepare thee; for the sword shall devour round about thee. 15Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them. 16He made many to fall, yea, one fell upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.46.16 made…: Heb. multiplied the faller 17They did cry there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath passed the time appointed. 18As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. 19O thou daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity: for Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant.46.19 furnish…: Heb. make thee instruments of captivity 20Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction cometh; it cometh out of the north. 21Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fatted bullocks; for they also are turned back, and are fled away together: they did not stand, because the day of their calamity was come upon them, and the time of their visitation.46.21 fatted…: Heb. bullocks of the stall 22The voice thereof shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. 23They shall cut down her forest, saith the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable. 24The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. 25The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:46.25 multitude: or, nourisher: Heb. Amon 26And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the LORD.
27¶ But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. 28Fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith the LORD: for I am with thee; for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee: but I will not make a full end of thee, but correct thee in measure; yet will I not leave thee wholly unpunished.46.28 not leave…: or, not utterly cut thee off
