災難の日
1別の機会に、神はこうも語りました。 2「おまえは妻をめとり、この地で子どもをもうけてはならない。 3この町で生まれる子どもも、その両親も、 4恐ろしい病気にかかって死ぬからだ。彼らのために嘆いたり、埋葬したりしてくれる者は、一人もいない。死体は地面に放り出されたまま腐り、地の肥やしになる。彼らは戦争やききんで死に、死体は、はげたかや野獣につつかれ、引き裂かれる。 5彼らのために嘆いたり、泣いたりしてはならない。わたしは彼らを保護するのをやめ、平安を取り上げたばかりか、恵みとあわれみを与えることさえやめたからだ。 6身分の高い者も低い者も、死んでも埋葬してもらえず、悲しんでもらえない。友人でさえ、髪を刈ったり頭をそったりして悲しみの気持ちを表そうとしない。 7誰ひとり、悲しむ者に食事を出して慰めず、死んだ人の両親を慰めるために一杯のぶどう酒を与えようとさえしない。 8こんな悲惨なことが待っているのだから、それを示すために、宴会に二度と顔を出してはならない。彼らと食事を共にすることも許されない。 9イスラエルの神、天の軍勢の主であるわたしが、こう言うのだ。おまえの生きている間に、しかもおまえの見ている前で、わたしはこの国から笑い声を絶やす。楽しい歌声、結婚披露宴、花婿と花嫁の歌声はとだえる。
10これらを包み隠さずに話すと、彼らはこう聞き返すだろう。『どうして神は、こんなに恐ろしいことをするのか。こんなひどい目に会わせられる覚えはない。私たちが神に、いったいどんな罪を犯したというのか。』 11彼らに主の返事を知らせなさい。おまえたちの先祖がわたしを捨てたから、こんなことになったのだと。彼らはほかの神々を拝み、それに仕えた。わたしのおきてを守らなかった。 12そればかりか、おまえたちも、先祖より悪いことをしてきたではないか。思いのままに悪の道へ走り、わたしの言うことを聞こうとさえしなかった。 13だから、おまえたちをこの国の外に放り出し、だれも知らない異国に追い払う。そこで、好きなだけ偶像を拝むがいい。わたしは少しも恵みを与えない。」
14-15しかし、栄光に輝く日がくると、主は宣言します。その時の話題の中心は、神がご自分の民を、みせしめのために奴隷として追いやった北の国々から連れ戻すということです。「その時、おまえたちはもはや、わたしがおまえたちをエジプトから連れ戻した時のことを、なつかしそうに振り返らなくなる。あの時の大きな奇跡でさえ、ほとんど話の種にならなくなる。わたしがおまえたちを、先祖に与えたこの地に連れ帰るからだ。」そう主は断言します。
16「わたしは大ぜいの漁師を遣わして、わたしの憤りから逃れて深い所に隠れているおまえたちを、網で引き上げる。狩人を遣わして、森の中の鹿や、断崖の上に立つ野やぎを狩り出すように、おまえたちを低地へ追い立てる。さばきを逃れようと逃げ出しても、必ず見つけ出して罰する。 17わたしはおまえたちに目を光らせ、一部始終を見ている。すべての罪を心に留めている。わたしから逃げ出すことなどできない。 18わたしはおまえたちのすべての罪に対して、二倍の罰を加える。おまえたちがわたしの地をいまいましい偶像で汚し、あらん限りの悪事で満たしたからだ。」
19主よ。私の力、私の要塞、悩みの日の私の隠れ家よ。
世界中の民がみもとに来て、こう言うでしょう。
「私たちの先祖はほんとうに愚かでした。
少しも価値のない偶像を拝んでいたのです。
20神を作ることが人間にできるでしょうか。
人間の作る神々は本物の神ではありません。」
21「彼らがこのような気持ちで
わたしのところへ来るとき、
わたしは彼らに力を示し、
わたしだけが神であることを悟らせる。
Day of disaster
1Then the word of the Lord came to me: 2‘You must not marry and have sons or daughters in this place.’ 3For this is what the Lord says about the sons and daughters born in this land and about the women who are their mothers and the men who are their fathers: 4‘They will die of deadly diseases. They will not be mourned or buried but will be like dung lying on the ground. They will perish by sword and famine, and their dead bodies will become food for the birds and the wild animals.’
5For this is what the Lord says: ‘Do not enter a house where there is a funeral meal; do not go to mourn or show sympathy, because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people,’ declares the Lord. 6‘Both high and low will die in this land. They will not be buried or mourned, and no-one will cut themselves or shave their head for the dead. 7No-one will offer food to comfort those who mourn for the dead – not even for a father or a mother – nor will anyone give them a drink to console them.
8‘And do not enter a house where there is feasting and sit down to eat and drink. 9For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Before your eyes and in your days I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom in this place.
10‘When you tell these people all this and they ask you, “Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?” 11then say to them, “It is because your ancestors forsook me,” declares the Lord, “and followed other gods and served and worshipped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law. 12But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me. 13So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favour.”
14‘However, the days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when it will no longer be said, “As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of Egypt,” 15but it will be said, “As surely as the Lord lives, who brought the Israelites up out of the land of the north and out of all the countries where he had banished them.” For I will restore them to the land I gave to their ancestors.
16‘But now I will send for many fishermen,’ declares the Lord, ‘and they will catch them. After that I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them down on every mountain and hill and from the crevices of the rocks. 17My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes. 18I will repay them double for their wickedness and their sin, because they have defiled my land with the lifeless forms of their vile images and have filled my inheritance with their detestable idols.’
19Lord, my strength and my fortress,
my refuge in time of distress,
to you the nations will come
from the ends of the earth and say,
‘Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,
worthless idols that did them no good.
20Do people make their own gods?
Yes, but they are not gods!’
21‘Therefore I will teach them –
this time I will teach them
my power and might.
Then they will know
that my name is the Lord.
