私たちを強くする神の力
1私パウロは、今、キリスト・イエスの囚人となって投獄されています。それは、あなたがた外国人も、ユダヤ人と同じように神の家族の一員だと語ったからです。 2-3私は、外国人に神の恵みを示すという任務を神から受けています。このことについては、前の手紙でも簡単にふれましたから、もうすでにご存じと思います。外国人もまた神の恵みの対象とされているという、この特別の計画を、神が私に明かしてくださったのです。 4このように申し上げるのは、これらについて私がどう理解しているかをわかっていただくためです。 5以前、神はこの計画をご自分の民に隠しておられました。しかし今は、聖霊を通して、使徒や預言者たちにはっきりと示しておられます。 6その特別の計画とは、神の子どもとされた者たちが、外国人もユダヤ人と共に、すべての救いの恩恵を受け継ぐということです。ユダヤ人も外国人も、共に神の教会の一員として招かれています。そして、キリストについての福音と、この方がなされたこととを受け入れる時、キリストによって大いに祝福するという神の約束に、両者ともあずかるのです。
7神は、そのことをすべての人に伝える光栄ある特権を私に与えてくださいました。また、その務めを果たすに十分な、神の力と賜物をも与えてくださったのです。 8私はそのような資格の全くない者で、クリスチャンの中で最も役立たずの人間です。それにもかかわらず、キリストのうちにある無限の富が外国人にも与えられるという計画を伝える者として、こんな私が選ばれたのです。 9それは、万物を造られた神が、世の初めからの計画どおりに、ご自分が外国人の救い主でもあることを、すべての人に説き明かすためでした。
10またそれは、天のもろもろの支配者たちに対して、神の全家族――ユダヤ人も外国人も――が教会の中で一つとなっている姿を見せ、神の完全な知恵を示すためです。 11これこそ、神が主キリスト・イエスを通して、かねてから計画しておられたことなのです。 12私たちはこのキリストと共にあり、キリストを信じる信仰によって、確信をもって大胆に神の前に出ることができます。 13ですから、どうか、私がいま体験している苦しみを知って落胆しないでください。この苦しみはあなたがたのためであり、それは、あなたがたにとって名誉となり、励ましとなるはずです。
14-15神のご計画の深さと広さを思う時、私はひざをかがめて、天上と地上の家族の父である方に祈ります。 16どうか、父なる神が、その栄光に満ちた無限の富の中から、御霊を通して人を内面から強くする力を、あなたがたに与えてくださいますように。 17こうしてキリストが、信じるあなたがたの心に住んでくださいますように。 18-19そして、神の愛がどれほど広く、どれほど高く、どれほど深いかを理解することができますように。さらに、あなたがたがキリストの無限の愛を知って、キリストの愛といのちに満たされますように。
20どうか、私たちの祈り、願い、考え、望みをはるかに超えたすばらしいことを、その偉大な力でなされる神に、栄光がありますように。 21どうか、キリスト・イエスによって、教会に救いの計画をもたらしてくださった神に、栄光が永遠にありますように。アーメン。
1For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: 3How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 6That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: 7Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. 8Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 9And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, 11According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: 12In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. 13Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
