1-3ユダヤの大祭司は、人々の代表として供え物をささげ、神に仕えます。しかし、大祭司であっても同じ人間なので、人々のためだけでなく、自分の罪が取り除かれるためにもいけにえの動物の血をささげるのです。また、彼自身も弱さを身にまとっているので、無知な人や迷っている人を思いやることができるのです。 4もう一つ、大祭司について言えるのは、自分の意志では大祭司になれないということです。アロンが選ばれた時のように、大祭司となる者は、神から直接、その務めに任命される必要があります。
5キリストも名誉ある大祭司の地位につかれましたが、自分のご意志でそうなさったのではありません。神がお選びになったのです。神はこの方に、「わが子よ。今日、わたしはあなたを生んだ」（詩篇2・7）と言われました。 6またさらに、「あなたは、メルキゼデク（アブラハムの時代、サレムの王であり祭司であった人物。永遠の大祭司の型）と同じ位にある、永遠の祭司に選ばれた」（詩篇110・4）と告げました。 7キリストはこの地上におられた時、死から救うことのできるただひとりの方に、うめきと涙とをもって祈られました。この祈りは、どんな場合にも神に従おうとする、キリストの謙遜で切なる願いのゆえに聞き入れられたのです。 8イエスは神の子であるのに、神に従うことには多くの苦しみが伴うことを身をもって学ばれました。
9この経験を通してご自分の完全さを実証し、その上で、ご自分に従うすべての人に永遠の救いを与える者となられたのです。 10神がキリストを、メルキゼデクと同じ位に立つ大祭司としてお選びになったことを思い起こしてください。
初歩の教えを卒業しましょう
11このことについて、まだまだ話し足りませんが、聞く意思がないあなたがたに理解してもらうのは困難です。 12-13あなたがたは、もう長い間、クリスチャンとして生きてきました。ほかの人を教えても当然なのに、もう一度、神のことばのイロハから手ほどきしてもらわなければならないほどになっています。固形物を食べるまでには成長せずに、いつもミルクばかり飲んでいる赤ん坊のようです。クリスチャン生活のごく初歩の段階を行ったり来たりして、善悪の区別さえおぼつかない状態なのです。 14あなたがたがもっと成長し、正しい行いが伴って、善悪の区別がつくようになるまでは、堅い霊の食べ物をとることも、神のことばの深い意味を悟ることもむりでしょう。
1Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. 3This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. 4And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.
5In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”5:5 Psalm 2:7
6And he says in another place,
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”5:6 Psalm 110:4
7During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
Warning Against Falling Away
11We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
