2Luister, Herder van Israël,
U leidt immers uw geliefde volk als een kudde schapen.
U woont boven de engelen.
Kom in al uw stralende heerlijkheid naar ons toe.
3Laat uw kracht
de stammen Efraïm, Benjamin en Manasse
voorgaan en red ons.
4O God, maak ons volk weer tot een eenheid.
Laat uw licht schijnen,
want dan zullen wij worden bevrijd.
5Here, God van de hemelse legers,
blijft uw toorn nog lang gericht tegen uw volk,
ondanks onze gebeden?
6Hun tranen doorweekten het brood dat zij aten
en mengden zich met het water dat zij dronken.
7De omringende landen ruziën spottend over ons,
onze tegenstanders steken de gek met ons.
8O God van de hemelse legers,
maak ons volk weer tot een eenheid.
Laat uw licht over ons schijnen,
dan zullen wij bevrijd worden.
9U hebt in Egypte ons volk als een wijnstok uitgegraven,
daarna hebt U hier de volken verdreven
en ons in dit land geplant.
10U hebt dit land, deze grond, voor ons klaargemaakt,
zodat wij ons er thuis voelden
en ons er als volk konden vestigen.
11Wij hebben ons genesteld op de bergen
en in de schaduw van de bomen gezeten,
de bomen die U hebt geplant.
12Het volk zwermde uit naar alle kanten,
tot aan de Eufraat toe.
13Waarom hebt U onze grenzen opengezet?
Nu worden wij steeds aangevallen.
14Vreemde volken vallen ons aan
en plunderen ons.
15O God van de hemelse legers,
kom toch bij ons terug.
Kijk vanuit de hemel op ons neer,
let erop hoe het met uw volk is.
16Wij zijn het volk
dat U naar dit land hebt gebracht,
dankzij U
zijn wij ook een groot volk geworden.
17Alsof wij vuilnis zijn,
worden wij bedreigd door branden,
als U ons helpt,
kan de tegenstander niets meer doen.
18Bescherm het volk van uw keuze,
de mensen die U tot een groot volk hebt gemaakt.
19Dan zullen wij U niet meer verlaten.
Als U ons bevrijdt,
zullen wij U zoeken, loven en prijzen.
20Here, God van de hemelse legers,
maak ons volk weer tot een eenheid.
Laat uw licht over ons schijnen,
dan zullen wij bevrijd worden.

For the director of music. A psalm of Asaph to the tune of “The Lilies of the Covenant.”
1Shepherd of Israel, hear us.
You lead the people of Joseph like a flock.
You sit on your throne between the cherubim.
Show your glory
2to the people of Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
Call your strength into action.
Come and save us.
3God, make us new again.
May you be pleased with us.
Then we will be saved.
4Lord God, you rule over all.
How long will you be angry?
Will you be angry with your people even when they pray to you?
5You have given us tears as our food.
You have made us drink tears by the bowlful.
6You have let our neighbors mock us.
Our enemies laugh at us.
7God who rules over all, make us new again.
May you be pleased with us.
Then we will be saved.
8You brought Israel out of Egypt.
Israel was like a vine.
After you drove the nations out of Canaan,
you planted the vine in their land.
9You prepared the ground for it.
It took root and spread out over the whole land.
10The mountains were covered with its shade.
The shade of its branches covered the mighty cedar trees.
11Your vine sent its branches out all the way to the Mediterranean Sea.
They reached as far as the Euphrates River.
12Why have you broken down the walls around your vine?
Now all who pass by it can pick its grapes.
13Wild pigs from the forest destroy it.
Insects from the fields feed on it.
14God who rules over all, return to us!
Look down from heaven and see us!
Watch over your vine.
15Guard the root you have planted with your powerful right hand.
Take care of the branch you have raised up for yourself.
16Your vine has been cut down and burned in the fire.
You have been angry with us, and we are dying.
17May you honor the people at your right hand.
May you honor the nation you have raised up for yourself.
18Then we won’t turn away from you.
Give us new life. We will worship you.
19Lord God who rules over all, make us new again.
May you be pleased with us.
Then we will be saved.
