2Iedereen in Juda kent God.
Heel Israël eert en verheerlijkt Hem.
3Zijn huis staat immers in Jeruzalem
en Hij woont op de berg Sion.
4Daar heeft Hij de wapens van de vijand vernietigd.
5De geweldige bergen kunnen zich niet met U meten
in pracht en heerlijkheid.
6U versloeg de sterke vijanden.
Zij sliepen gewoon in.
Geen van al die dappere krijgers had nog kracht
om tegen U op te staan.
7Toen U Zich liet zien, God van Jakob,
konden noch paarden noch strijdwagens
meer iets beginnen.
8U bent groot en beroemd,
niemand kan in leven blijven
als uw toorn ontbrandt.
9Vanuit de hemel hebt U geoordeeld
en de aarde werd helemaal stil van ontzag.
10Toen stond God op als rechter
en bevrijdde al de oprechte mensen op aarde.
11Werkelijk, zelfs uw tegenstanders moeten U eer brengen.
U houdt ze in toom.
12Doe uw geloften aan de Here, uw God.
Kom ze ook na.
Iedereen moet Hem offers en gaven brengen,
want Hij is beroemd en gevreesd.
13God verslaat alle tegenstanders,
allen vrezen Hem.

1God is renowned in Judah;
in Israel his name is great.
2His tent is in Salem,
his dwelling-place in Zion.
3There he broke the flashing arrows,
the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.76:3 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here and at the end of verse 9.
4You are radiant with light,
more majestic than mountains rich with game.
5The valiant lie plundered,
they sleep their last sleep;
not one of the warriors
can lift his hands.
6At your rebuke, God of Jacob,
both horse and chariot lie still.
7It is you alone who are to be feared.
Who can stand before you when you are angry?
8From heaven you pronounced judgment,
and the land feared and was quiet –
9when you, God, rose up to judge,
to save all the afflicted of the land.
10Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise,
and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.76:10 Or Surely the wrath of mankind brings you praise, / and with the remainder of wrath you arm yourself
11Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfil them;
let all the neighbouring lands
bring gifts to the One to be feared.
12He breaks the spirit of rulers;
he is feared by the kings of the earth.
