Gods heilige naam bekendgemaakt
1‘Mensenzoon, profeteer ook het volgende tegen Gog: “Ik sta tegenover u, koning Gog van Mesech en Tubal. 2Ik zal u vanuit het verre noorden opdrijven naar de bergen van Israël. 3Ik zal u daar de wapens uit handen slaan en hulpeloos achterlaten. 4U en al uw grote legereenheden zullen in de bergen van Israël sterven. Ik zal u aan de gieren en de wilde dieren ten prooi geven, zodat zij u kunnen verscheuren. 5U zult de steden nooit bereiken, in het open veld zult u sneuvelen, want Ik heb gesproken,” zegt de Oppermachtige Here. 6“Ik zal vuur laten regenen op Magog en op al uw bondgenoten, die veilig langs de kust leven. Zij zullen ontdekken dat Ik de Here ben. 7Zo zal Ik mijn heilige naam bekendmaken onder mijn volk Israël. Ik zal niet langer toelaten dat het wordt beledigd. En ook de volken zullen weten dat Ik de Here ben, de Heilige van Israël. 8Die dag van het oordeel komt eraan, alles zal gebeuren zoals Ik heb aangekondigd.
9De inwoners van de steden van Israël zullen naar buiten komen en uw schilden, pijlen, bogen en speren verzamelen om te verbranden. Het zal genoeg zijn om hun zeven jaar van brandstof te voorzien. 10Zeven jaar lang zullen zij niets anders nodig hebben voor hun haardvuren. Zij zullen geen hout hoeven te verzamelen op het land of in het bos, want deze wapens leveren alles wat zij nodig hebben. Zij zullen de bezittingen gebruiken van degenen die hen aanvielen. 11En Ik zal een enorme begraafplaats maken voor Gog en zijn legers in de Vallei van de Reizigers, ten oosten van de Dode Zee. Dat zal alle reizigers de weg versperren. Daar zullen Gog en al zijn strijders worden begraven. En die plaats zal daarna ‘Vallei van Gogs leger’ worden genoemd. 12De Israëlieten zullen zeven maanden nodig hebben om alle lichamen te begraven en zo hun land te zuiveren. 13Iedere Israëliet zal daarbij helpen, want het zal een belangrijke dag zijn voor Israël, wanneer Ik mijn heerlijkheid toon,” stelt de Here. 14“Na die zeven maanden zullen zij mannen aanwijzen die in het hele land moeten zoeken naar achtergebleven beenderen om die alsnog te begraven, zodat het land helemaal wordt gereinigd. 15-16 Als iemand enkele beenderen ziet, moet hij er een teken bijzetten voor de doodgravers. Die kunnen de beenderen dan meenemen naar de ‘Vallei van Gogs leger’ en ze daar begraven. Daar ligt ook een stad met de naam Massa. Op die manier zal het land ten slotte weer helemaal zijn gereinigd.”
17En roep nu, mensenzoon, de vogels en de andere dieren en zeg hun: “Kom bij elkaar voor een groot offerfeest. Kom van heinde en verre naar de bergen van Israël. Kom, eet het vlees en drink het bloed! 18Eet het vlees van machtige mannen en drink het bloed van heersers, zij zijn als het ware de rammen, de lammeren, de geiten en de vette jonge stieren van Basan voor mijn feest! 19Eet vlees totdat u verzadigd bent, drink bloed totdat u dronken bent, dit is het offerfeest dat Ik voor u heb klaargemaakt. 20Vier feest aan mijn tafel, klink op de paarden, de ruiters en de moedige strijders,” zegt de Oppermachtige Here. 21“Zo zal Ik mijn heerlijkheid aan de volken tonen: allen zullen zien hoe Ik Gog straf en zij zullen weten dat Ik het heb gedaan. 22Vanaf die tijd zal het volk Israël weten dat Ik, de Here, zijn God ben.
23En de volken zullen weten waarom de Israëlieten in ballingschap werden gestuurd! Het was een straf voor hun zonde, want zij waren ontrouw aan Mij, hun God. Daarom keerde Ik Mij van hen af en liet toe dat hun vijanden hen in het nauw dreven en hen doodden met het zwaard. 24Ik keerde mijn gezicht af en gaf hun een straf die paste bij de schaamteloosheid van hun zonden.
25Maar,” zegt de Oppermachtige Here, “nu zal Ik een einde maken aan de gevangenschap van mijn volk en het genadig zijn. Ik zal het weer welvaart geven, want dat komt mijn naam ten goede! 26Het verraad en de schande van de Israëlieten zullen verleden tijd zijn, zij zullen weer thuis zijn en in vrede en veiligheid in hun vaderland wonen, zonder dat iemand hen lastigvalt of angst aanjaagt. 27Ik zal hen thuisbrengen vanuit de landen van hun vijanden en mijn heerlijkheid zal daardoor voor alle volken duidelijk te zien zijn. Door hen zal Ik mijn heiligheid in de ogen van de volken tot zijn recht laten komen. 28Dan zal mijn volk weten dat Ik de Here, hun God, verantwoordelijk ben voor hun ballingschap en ook verantwoordelijk voor hun terugkeer uit die ballingschap. Geen van hen zal Ik in vreemde landen achterlaten. 29En Ik zal mijn gezicht nooit meer voor hen verbergen, want Ik zal mijn Geest over hen uitstorten,” zegt de Oppermachtige Here.’

8¶ Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken. 9And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:39.9 handstaves: or, javelins39.9 burn them…: or, make a fire of them 10So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
11¶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog.39.11 noses: or, mouths39.11 Hamon-gog: that is, The multitude of Gog 12And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. 13Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. 14And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.39.14 men…: Heb. men of continuance 15And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog.39.15 set up: Heb. build 16And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. 17¶ And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.39.17 unto…: Heb. to the fowl of every wing39.17 my sacrifice: or, my slaughter 18Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.39.18 goats: Heb. great goats 19And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD. 21And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. 22So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
23¶ And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. 24According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them. 25Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; 26After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. 27When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; 28Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.39.28 which…: Heb. by my causing of them, etc 29Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
