Warum verehrt ihr immer noch andere Götter?
1Jeremia empfing eine Botschaft für alle Judäer in Unterägypten – in Migdol, Tachpanhes und Memfis – und in Oberägypten:
2»So spricht der Herr, der allmächtige Gott Israels: Ihr habt mit eigenen Augen gesehen, welches Unheil ich über Jerusalem und die anderen Städte Judas hereinbrechen ließ. Nun liegen sie in Trümmern und sind menschenleer, 3denn ihre Einwohner haben mit ihrer Bosheit meinen Zorn herausgefordert. Sie brachten anderen Göttern Opfer dar und verehrten Götzen, die weder sie noch ihr oder eure Vorfahren jemals gekannt haben. 4Immer wieder habe ich meine Boten, die Propheten, zu ihnen gesandt und sie gewarnt: ›Hört auf mit diesem abscheulichen Götzendienst, denn ich hasse ihn!‹ 5Aber sie haben mich nicht ernst genommen und nicht auf mich gehört. Sie sind nicht von ihren falschen Wegen umgekehrt, sondern haben weiterhin anderen Göttern geopfert.
6Da bekamen sie meinen glühenden Zorn zu spüren. Er zerstörte die Städte Judas und verwüstete die Straßen Jerusalems. Noch heute liegen sie in Trümmern, niemand wohnt mehr dort.
7Ich, der Herr, der allmächtige Gott, der Gott Israels, frage euch nun: Warum beschwört ihr wieder ein so schreckliches Unheil herauf? Wollt ihr unbedingt, dass Mann und Frau, Kind und Säugling aus dem Volk Juda ausgerottet werden, bis keiner von euch mehr übrig ist? 8Mit euren Taten fordert ihr mich heraus. Auch hier in Ägypten, wo ihr Zuflucht gesucht habt, bringt ihr anderen Göttern Opfer dar. Wollt ihr wirklich ausgerottet werden, wollt ihr ein abschreckendes Beispiel sein, verhöhnt und verspottet von den anderen Völkern der Erde? 9Habt ihr schon vergessen, wie schlimm ihr es in Juda und auf den Straßen Jerusalems getrieben habt, ihr und eure Frauen, eure Vorfahren, eure Könige und deren Frauen? 10Bis heute hat keiner von euch seine Schuld zugegeben, keiner erweist mir Ehrfurcht und lebt nach meinem Gesetz, nach den Geboten, die ich euch und euren Vorfahren gegeben habe.
11Darum sage ich, der Herr, der allmächtige Gott Israels: Ich bin fest entschlossen, Unheil über euch zu bringen und das ganze Volk von Juda auszurotten. 12Ich lasse alle von euch umkommen, die sich in Ägypten in Sicherheit bringen wollten. Jung und Alt werden im Krieg oder an Hunger sterben. Man wird entsetzt sein über euer Schicksal, von allen werdet ihr verhöhnt und verachtet. Wer einen anderen verfluchen will, wünscht ihm das gleiche Los, das euch getroffen hat. 13Euch Judäer in Ägypten werde ich ebenso strafen wie damals die Einwohner von Jerusalem: durch Krieg, Hunger und Seuchen. 14Das Unheil wird alle treffen, die hier in Ägypten Schutz gesucht haben. Niemand von euch wird nach Juda zurückkehren, wo ihr so gerne wieder leben würdet, niemand außer ein paar Flüchtlingen!«
»Wir haben die Himmelskönigin viel zu wenig verehrt!«
15Alle Judäer in Unter- und Oberägypten, Männer und Frauen, hatten sich zu einer großen Versammlung eingefunden. Die Männer wussten sehr wohl, dass ihre Frauen anderen Göttern Opfer darbrachten. Sie alle entgegneten Jeremia: 16»Was du uns da im Auftrag des Herrn sagst, werden wir auf keinen Fall befolgen! 17Wir wollen weiterhin der Himmelskönigin44,17 Vgl. die Anmerkung zu Kapitel 7,18. Räucheropfer und Trankopfer darbringen, so wie wir, unsere Vorfahren, unsere Könige und führenden Männer es schon früher getan haben. Wir stehen zu dem, was wir versprochen haben, und lassen uns durch niemanden davon abbringen! Als wir die Himmelskönigin noch in der Heimat verehrten, ging es uns gut. Wir hatten genug zu essen und blieben vom Unglück verschont. 18Aber seit wir mit dem Opfern aufgehört haben, geht es uns in jeder Hinsicht schlecht, viele von uns sind im Krieg umgekommen oder verhungert.« 19Dann sagten die Frauen: »Unsere Männer erlauben uns schließlich, der Himmelskönigin zu opfern. Wir verbrennen Weihrauch für die Göttin, wir backen Kuchen, die sie darstellen sollen, und gießen Wein als Trankopfer für sie aus.«
Nur ein kleiner Rest von euch wird übrig bleiben
20Jeremia erwiderte den versammelten Judäern, allen Männern und Frauen, die ihm widersprochen hatten: 21»Meint ihr, der Herr wüsste nicht, was ihr in den Städten Judas und auf den Straßen Jerusalems getrieben habt? Er hat es genau gesehen: Anderen Göttern habt ihr Opfer dargebracht, ihr und eure Vorfahren, die Könige, die führenden Männer und das ganze Volk. 22Schließlich konnte der Herr eure Bosheit und euren abscheulichen Götzendienst nicht länger ertragen. Darum hat er euer Land zu einer trostlosen Wüste und zu einem Bild des Schreckens gemacht, so wie es heute ist. Wer einen anderen verfluchen will, wünscht ihm dasselbe Schicksal, das euch getroffen hat. 23Das Unheil ist über euch hereingebrochen, gerade weil ihr anderen Göttern geopfert und damit gegen den Herrn gesündigt habt. Ihr wolltet nicht auf ihn hören und habt nicht nach seinem Gesetz, nach seinen Geboten und Weisungen gelebt.«
24Dann verkündete Jeremia dem ganzen Volk und besonders den Frauen: »Hört, was der Herr euch sagt, ihr Judäer, die ihr nach Ägypten gezogen seid! 25So spricht der Herr, der allmächtige Gott Israels: Ihr und eure Frauen habt geschworen, der Himmelskönigin Räucheropfer und Trankopfer darzubringen, und ihr habt euer Gelübde erfüllt. Ja, haltet euch nur an eure Versprechen, tut, was ihr geschworen habt!
26Aber hört, was ich, der Herr, euch sage, ihr Judäer in Ägypten: Ich, der Herr, schwöre bei mir selbst: Es wird in diesem Land bald keinen mehr von euch geben, der in meinem Namen einen Eid leistet und sagt: ›So wahr Gott, der Herr, lebt.‹ 27Ja, ich sorge dafür, dass euch nur noch Leid und nichts Gutes mehr geschieht. Ihr Judäer werdet alle im Krieg fallen oder verhungern, bis niemand mehr von euch übrig ist. 28Nur wenige werden den Schwertern der Feinde entkommen und aus Ägypten nach Juda zurückkehren. Dann werden sie erkennen, wessen Ankündigung sich erfüllt hat – ihre oder meine. 29Ich, der Herr, gebe euch ein Zeichen, damit ihr wisst: Meine Drohungen sind keine leeren Worte, hier in diesem Land trifft euch meine Strafe. 30Ihr werdet sehen: Wie ich König Zedekia seinem Todfeind Nebukadnezar ausgeliefert habe, so werde ich auch Pharao Hofra in die Gewalt seiner Todfeinde geben. Mein Wort gilt!«

11¶ Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. 12And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach. 13For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: 14So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.44.14 have…: Heb. lift up their soul
15¶ Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, 16As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. 17But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.44.17 queen…: or, frame of heaven44.17 victuals: Heb. bread 18But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. 19And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?44.19 men: or, husbands?
20¶ Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying, 21The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind? 22So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day. 23Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day. 24Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt: 25Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows. 26Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth. 27Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them. 28Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs.44.28 mine…: Heb. from me, or, from them
29¶ And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil: 30Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.
