Ein Verbrechen wird gerächt
1Eines Tages wollte Dina, die Tochter Leas und Jakobs, einige der kanaanitischen Mädchen in der Stadt treffen und verließ das Zeltlager. 2Dabei begegnete ihr Sichem – er war der Sohn des Hiwiters Hamor, des führenden Mannes in der Gegend. Als er Dina sah, fiel er über sie her und vergewaltigte sie. 3Sichem fühlte sich stark zu ihr hingezogen; in seiner Verliebtheit redete er ihr freundlich zu, um sie für sich zu gewinnen. 4Dann ging er zu seinem Vater Hamor. »Sorg doch dafür, dass ich dieses Mädchen heiraten kann!«, bat er ihn.
5Sehr bald erfuhr auch Jakob, dass Dina vergewaltigt und so ihrer Ehre beraubt worden war. Aber weil seine Söhne noch auf dem Feld bei seiner Herde waren, unternahm er erst einmal nichts, sondern beschloss, auf ihre Rückkehr zu warten.
6In der Zwischenzeit kam Sichems Vater Hamor zu ihm, um über die Sache zu reden. 7Kaum war er dort, da kehrten auch schon Jakobs Söhne vom Feld zurück. Als sie hörten, was geschehen war, tobten sie vor Wut. Sie fühlten sich in ihrer Familienehre gekränkt, denn eine solche Tat galt bei den Israeliten als Schande. So etwas durfte man nicht tun! 8Hamor wollte sie besänftigen: »Mein Sohn Sichem hat sich in Dina verliebt. Erlaubt doch, dass er sie heiratet! 9Lasst uns ein Abkommen schließen: Unsere Völker sollen sich durch gegenseitige Heirat verbinden. 10Ihr könnt euch bei uns niederlassen – unser Land steht euch offen! Ihr könnt euch ansiedeln und Besitz erwerben.« 11Auch Sichem bat Dinas Vater und ihre Brüder: »Erfüllt mir meinen Wunsch – ich gebe euch dafür alles, was ihr verlangt! 12Hochzeitsgeld und Brautpreis können so hoch sein, wie ihr wollt, ich werde alles bezahlen. Nur lasst mich Dina heiraten!«
13Jakobs Söhne aber wollten sich an Sichem und seinem Vater rächen, weil er ihre Schwester vergewaltigt hatte. Sie antworteten scheinheilig: 14»Darauf können wir uns nicht einlassen! In unserem Volk gilt es als eine Schande, wenn wir unsere Schwester einem Mann geben, der nicht beschnitten ist! 15Nur unter einer Bedingung könnten wir sie dir geben: Ihr müsst alle männlichen Einwohner beschneiden. 16Nur dann können wir uns bei euch ansiedeln und durch gegenseitige Heirat zu einem Volk werden. 17Wenn ihr davon nichts wissen wollt, nehmen wir Dina und gehen!«
18Hamor und Sichem waren mit dem Vorschlag einverstanden. 19Sichem verlor keine Zeit: Er kümmerte sich um alles, denn er hing an Dina, und in seiner Familie hatte er das letzte Wort. 20Zusammen mit seinem Vater Hamor ging er zum Versammlungsplatz beim Stadttor, um die Männer der Stadt von der Sache zu überzeugen. 21»Diese Männer sind friedlich«, sagten sie, »wir sollten sie ruhig bei uns wohnen lassen, dann können sie selbst Besitz erwerben. Unser Land ist doch groß genug. Wir können uns durch gegenseitige Heirat mit ihnen verbinden. 22Allerdings stellen sie eine Bedingung: Wir müssen alle männlichen Einwohner beschneiden, so wie es bei ihnen üblich ist. 23Überlegt doch einmal: Ihr ganzer Besitz würde uns gehören! Lasst uns auf ihren Vorschlag eingehen, damit sie bei uns bleiben!«
24Die Männer der Stadt stimmten zu, und alle männlichen Einwohner wurden beschnitten. 25Drei Tage später lagen sie im Wundfieber. Da nahmen Dinas Brüder Simeon und Levi ihr Schwert und überfielen die Stadt, ohne auf Widerstand zu stoßen. Sie brachten alle männlichen Einwohner um, 26auch Hamor und Sichem. Dina holten sie aus Sichems Haus, dann verschwanden sie wieder.
27Die anderen Söhne Jakobs plünderten die Stadt aus. Sie rächten sich dafür, dass man ihre Schwester dort vergewaltigt und ihrer Ehre beraubt hatte. 28Alles Vieh – Schafe, Ziegen, Esel und Rinder – nahmen sie mit und was sie sonst in der Stadt oder auf dem Feld fanden. 29Auch die Frauen und Kinder sowie allen Besitz aus den Häusern schleppten sie fort.
30Als Jakob davon erfuhr, warf er Simeon und Levi vor: »Ihr stürzt mich ins Unglück! Jetzt bin ich bei allen Bewohnern des Landes verhasst! Die Zahl unserer Leute ist verschwindend klein gegen die Menge der Kanaaniter und der Perisiter. Wenn sie sich zusammentun, ist es aus mit uns! Dann wird keiner von uns am Leben bleiben!« 31Aber Simeon und Levi erwiderten nur: »Konnten wir es zulassen, dass Sichem unsere Schwester wie eine Hure behandelt hat?«

6¶ And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him. 7And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter; which thing ought not to be done. 8And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife. 9And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you. 10And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein. 11And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give. 12Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife. 13And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister: 14And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us: 15But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised; 16Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people. 17But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.
18And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor’s son. 19And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.
20¶ And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying, 21These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters. 22Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised. 23Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us. 24And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
25¶ And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males. 26And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out.34.26 edge: Heb. mouth 27The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister. 28They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field, 29And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house. 30And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house. 31And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with an harlot?
