Ang Pinili nga Katawhan sang Dios
(Exo. 34:10-16)
1“Kon dal-on na gani kamo sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios didto sa duta nga inyo pagasudlon kag panag-iyahan, ipatabog niya sa inyo ang pito ka nasyon nga mas madamo kag mas gamhanan pa sang sa inyo: ang mga Hithanon, mga Girgashnon, mga Amornon, mga Canaanhon, mga Periznon, mga Hivhanon, kag mga Jebusnon. 2Kag kon itugyan na sila sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa inyo kag pierdihon ninyo sila, laglagon ninyo sila sing bug-os.7:2 laglagon ninyo sila sing bug-os: Ang Hebreo nga pulong sini nagakahulugan sang mga gintugyan sa Ginoo paagi sa paghalad ukon paglaglag sini. Indi kamo maghimo sang kasugtanan sa ila ukon magpakita sang kaluoy sa ila. 3Indi kamo magpangasawa ukon magpamana sa ila, kag indi ninyo pagtuguti ang inyo mga anak nga magpangasawa ukon magpamana sa ila mga anak, 4kay ipalayo nila sa Ginoo ang inyo mga anak sa pag-alagad sa iban nga mga dios. Kag kon matabo ini, ipaagom sang Ginoo ang iya kaakig sa inyo kag sa gilayon malaglag kamo. 5Sa baylo, amo ini ang inyo himuon: Panggub-a ninyo ang ila mga halaran, pangdugmuka ang ila handumanan nga mga bato, pang-utda ang ila mga hulohaligi nga simbolo sang diosa nga si Ashera, kag sunuga ang ila mga dios-dios. 6Kay kamo nga katawhan ginseparar para sa Ginoo nga inyo Dios. Sa tanan nga katawhan, kamo ang ginpili sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios nga mangin iya espesyal nga katawhan.
7“Ginpili kamo kag ginhigugma sang Ginoo indi tungod nga mas madamo kamo sang sa iban nga mga katawhan, kay kamo pa gani ang pinakadiutay sa tanan. 8Ginpili niya kamo tungod kay ginahigugma niya kamo kag ginatuman niya ang iya ginsumpa sa inyo mga katigulangan. Amo gani nga ginpaguwa niya kamo sa Egipto paagi sa iya puwerte nga gahom, kag ginhilway sa pagkaulipon sa Faraon nga hari sang Egipto. 9Hunahunaon ninyo nga ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios amo lang ang Dios. Masaligan siya nga Dios, kag ginatuman niya ang iya kasugtanan nga amo ang paghigugma sa madamo nga kaliwat nga nagahigugma sa iya kag nagatuman sang iya mga sugo. 10Pero ang mga wala nagahigugma sa iya silutan gid niya dayon kag laglagon.
Ang Balos sa Pagkamatinumanon
(Lev. 26:3-13; Deu. 28:1-14)
11“Gani tumanon gid ninyo sing maayo ang mga sugo kag mga pagsulundan nga ginahatag ko sa inyo subong. 12Kon tumanon ninyo ini nga mga sugo kag sundon sing maayo, tumanon sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios ang iya kasugtanan nga higugmaon7:12 higugmaon: ukon, pakamaayuhon. niya kamo, subong sang iya ginsumpa sa inyo mga katigulangan. 13Higugmaon niya kamo, pakamaayuhon, kag padamuon. Hatagan niya kamo sang madamo nga kabataan kag pakamaayuhon ang mga produkto sang inyo duta: ang inyo mga uyas, duga sang ubas, kag lana. Kag padamuon man niya ang inyo kasapatan didto sa duta nga iya ginsumpa nga ihatag sa mga katigulangan ninyo kag sa inyo. 14Pakamaayuhon niya kamo labaw sa iban nga mga katawhan. Wala sing lalaki sa inyo nga mabaog ukon babayi nga mabaw-as, kag amo man sa inyo mga kasapatan. 15Protektaran kamo sang Ginoo sa tanan nga balatian. Indi niya pag-ipadala sa inyo atong makangilil-ad nga mga balatian nga inyo nakita didto sa Egipto, pero ipadala niya ini sa tanan nga nagadumot sa inyo. 16Kinahanglan nga pamatyon ninyo ang tanan nga katawhan nga ginatugyan sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa inyo. Indi ninyo sila pagkaluoyi, kag indi kamo mag-alagad sa ila mga dios, kay mangin siod ini para sa inyo.
17“Basi bala magsiling kamo sa inyo kaugalingon, ‘Mas gamhanan pa ini nga mga nasyon sang sa aton. Paano bala naton sila mapalayas?’ 18Pero indi kamo magkahadlok sa ila, kundi dumdumon ninyo sing maayo kon ano ang ginhimo sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa hari sang Egipto7:18 hari sang Egipto: sa Hebreo, Faraon. kag sa tanan nga Egiptohanon. 19Nakita ninyo mismo ang dalagko nga mga pagtilaw, ang mga milagro, mga makatilingala nga butang, kag puwerte nga gahom nga gin-gamit sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa pagpaguwa sa inyo. Pareho man sini ang pagahimuon sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa tanan nga katawhan nga inyo ginakahadlukan. 20Kag dayon padal-an sila sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sang mga alingayo hasta nga malaglag bisan atong nagkalabilin nga nakapanago. 21Indi kamo magkahadlok sa ila kay ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios kaupod ninyo, kag gamhanan kag makatilingala siya nga Dios. 22Amat-amat nga ipatabog sa inyo sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios ina nga mga nasyon. Indi ninyo sila pag-ubuson pahalin dayon, kay kon himuon ninyo ini magadamo ang talunon nga mga sapat. 23Pero itugyan sila sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios sa inyo. Pasalasalahon niya sila hasta nga malaglag sila. 24Itugyan niya sa inyo ang ila mga hari. Pamatyon ninyo sila, kag malimtan na sila. Wala sing bisan isa sa ila nga makadaog sa inyo, kag pamatyon ninyo sila tanan. 25Sunugon ninyo ang ila mga dios-dios, kag indi ninyo paghandumon ang mga bulawan kag mga pilak sini. Indi gid ninyo ini pagkuhaon kay mangin siod ini sa inyo. Likawan gid ninyo ini kay ginakangil-aran ini sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios. 26Indi kamo magdala sa inyo balay sang sining makangilil-ad nga mga butang, agod indi man kamo paglaglagon kaupod sini. Dapat kangil-aran gid ninyo ini, kay ini nga mga butang kinahanglan nga laglagon sing bug-os.
The Lord Will Drive Out Many Nations
1The Lord your God will bring you into the land. You are going to enter it and take it as your own. He’ll drive out many nations to make room for you. He’ll drive out the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. Those seven nations are larger and stronger than you are. 2The Lord your God will hand them over to you. You will win the battle over them. You must completely destroy them. Don’t make a peace treaty with them. Don’t show them any mercy. 3Don’t marry any of their people. Don’t give your daughters to their sons. And don’t take their daughters for your sons. 4If you do, those people will turn your children away from serving the Lord. Then your children will serve other gods. The Lord will be very angry with you. He will quickly destroy you. 5So here is what you must do to those people. Break down their altars. Smash their sacred stones. Cut down the poles they use to worship the female god named Asherah. Burn the statues of their gods in the fire. 6You are a holy nation. The Lord your God has set you apart for himself. He has chosen you to be his special treasure. He chose you out of all the nations on the face of the earth to be his people.
7The Lord chose you because he loved you very much. He didn’t choose you because you had more people than other nations. In fact, you had the smallest number of all. 8The Lord chose you because he loved you. He wanted to keep the promise he had made to your people of long ago. That’s why he used his mighty hand to bring you out of Egypt. He bought you back from the land where you were slaves. He set you free from the power of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. 9So I want you to realize that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God. He keeps his covenant for all time to come. He keeps it with those who love him and obey his commandments. He shows them his love. 10But he will pay back those who hate him. He’ll destroy them. He’ll quickly pay back those who hate him. 11So be careful to obey the commands, rules and laws I’m giving you today.
12Pay attention to the laws of the Lord your God. Be careful to obey them. Then he will keep his covenant of love with you. That’s what he promised to your people of long ago. 13The Lord will love you and bless you. He’ll cause there to be many of you. He’ll give you many children. He’ll bless the crops of your land. He’ll give you plenty of grain, olive oil and fresh wine. He’ll bless your herds with many calves. He’ll give your flocks many lambs. He’ll do all these things for you in the land of Canaan. It’s the land he promised your people of long ago that he would give you. 14He will bless you more than any other nation. All your men and women will have children. All your livestock will have little ones. 15The Lord will keep you from getting sick. He won’t send on you any of the horrible sicknesses you saw all around you in Egypt. But he’ll send them on everyone who hates you. 16You must destroy all the nations the Lord your God hands over to you. Don’t feel sorry for them. Don’t serve their gods. If you do, they will be a trap for you.
17You might say to yourselves, “These nations are stronger than we are. How can we drive them out?” 18But don’t be afraid of them. Be sure to remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and all the Egyptians. 19With your own eyes you saw what the Lord did to them. You saw the signs and amazing things he did. He reached out his mighty hand and powerful arm. The Lord your God used all those things to bring you out. You are now afraid of the nations that are in the land the Lord promised you. But the Lord your God will do to them the same things he did to Egypt. 20The Lord your God will also send hornets among those nations. Some of the people left alive will hide from you. But even they will die. 21So don’t be terrified by them. The Lord your God is with you. He is a great and wonderful God. 22The Lord your God will drive out those nations to make room for you. But he will do it little by little. You won’t be allowed to get rid of them all at once. If you did, wild animals would multiply all around you. 23But the Lord your God will hand those nations over to you. He will throw them into a panic until they are destroyed. 24He will hand their kings over to you. You will wipe out their names from the earth. No one will be able to stand up against you. You will destroy them. 25Burn the statues of their gods in the fire. Don’t wish for the silver and gold on those statues. Don’t take it for yourselves. If you do, it will be a trap for you. The Lord your God hates it. 26Don’t bring anything he hates into your house. If you do, you will be completely destroyed along with it. So hate it with all your heart. It is set apart to be destroyed.
