Nangin Hari si David sa Israel
(2 Sam. 5:1-10)
1Nagkadto ang tanan nga Israelinhon kay David sa Hebron kag nagsiling, “Mga kadugo mo kami. 2Halin sang una, bisan sang si Saul pa ang amon hari, ikaw ang nagapangulo sa mga Israelinhon sa pagpakig-away. Kag nagsiling sa imo ang Ginoo nga imo Dios, ‘Atipanon mo ang akon katawhan nga mga Israelinhon pareho sa isa ka manug-atipan sang mga karnero. Ikaw ang mangin pangulo nila.’ ” 3Gani didto sa Hebron, naghimo si David sang kasugtanan sa mga manugdumala sang Israel sa presensya sang Ginoo, kag ginhaplasan nila sang lana ang ulo ni David sa pagpakita nga siya na ang hari sang Israel, suno sa ginpromisa sang Ginoo paagi kay Samuel.
4Isa ka tion, naglakat si David kag ang mga Israelinhon sa pagsalakay sa Jerusalem (nga amo ang Jebus sang una). Ang mga Jebusnon nga nagaestar didto 5nagsiling kay David, “Indi gid kamo makasulod diri sa Jerusalem.” Pero naagaw gid man nila ni David ang mabakod nga kuta sang Zion, nga gintawag sang ulihi nga Banwa ni David.
6Nagsiling si David, “Ang bisan sin-o nga mag-una sa pagsalakay sa mga Jebusnon mangin kumander sang mga soldado.” Si Joab nga anak ni Zeruya amo ang nag-una sa pagsalakay. Gani nangin kumander siya.
7Sa tapos maagaw ni David ang mabakod nga kuta, didto siya nag-estar, kag gintawag niya ato nga Banwa ni David. 8Ginpadugangan niya ini sang pader sa palibot halin sa manubo nga parte sang banwa.11:8 manubo nga parte sang banwa: sa Hebreo, Millo. Indi klaro ang buot silingon sini. Si Joab ang nagdumala sa pagkay-o sang iban nga parte sang banwa. 9Naggamhanan nga naggamhanan si David, tungod kay ginabuligan siya sang Ginoo nga Makagagahom.
Ang Maisog nga mga Tinawo ni David
(2 Sam. 23:8-39)
10Amo ini ang mga lider sang maisog nga mga tinawo ni David. Sila kag ang tanan nga Israelinhon nagsuporta gid sa paghari ni David, suno sa ginpromisa sang Ginoo parte sa Israel. 11Si Jashobeam nga Hacmonhon amo ang nagapanguna sa tatlo11:11 tatlo: Amo ini sa iban nga mga kopya sang Septuagint. (Tan-awa man sa 2 Sam. 23:8.) Sa Hebreo, 30. ka maisog nga mga tinawo ni David. Sa isa lang ka inaway, nakapatay siya sang 300 ka tawo paagi sa iya bangkaw.
12Ang sunod sa iya amo si Eleazar nga anak ni Dodai11:12 Dodai: ukon, Dodo. nga kaliwat ni Ahoa, nga isa man sa tatlo ka maisog nga mga tinawo ni David. 13Isa siya sa mga nag-upod kay David sang nagpakig-away sila sa mga Filistinhon sa Pas Damim. Didto sila nag-away sa talamnan sang barley. Nagpalagyo ang mga Israelinhon, 14pero si Eleazar kag si David nagpabilin didto sa tunga sang talamnan, kag ginpamatay nila ang mga Filistinhon. Ginpadaog gid sila sang Ginoo.
15Isa ka adlaw, nagkadto kay David ang tatlo niya ka tinawo didto sa kuweba sang Adulam. Ini sila nga tatlo miyembro sang 30 ka maisog nga mga tinawo ni David. Nagakampo sadto ang mga Filistinhon sa Kapatagan sang Refaim 16kag naagaw nila ang Betlehem. Samtang didto si David sa isa ka mabakod nga palanaguan, 17gin-uhaw siya. Nagsiling siya, “Maayo kuntani nga may magkuha para sa akon sang tubig nga mainom didto sa bubon malapit sa puwertahan sang Betlehem.” 18Gani nagsulod sing tago atong tatlo ka maisog nga mga tawo sa kampo sang mga Filistinhon kag nagkuha sila sang tubig sa bubon malapit sa puwertahan sang Betlehem kag gindala kay David. Pero indi mag-inom si David; sa baylo gin-ula niya ini bilang halad sa Ginoo. 19Nagsiling siya, “O Dios ko, indi ko gid ini mainom tungod kay pareho ini kamahal sa dugo sang mga tawo nga nagtaya sang ila kabuhi sa pagkuha sini.” Gani indi gid mag-inom si David.
Amo ato ang mga ginhimo sang tatlo ka maisog nga mga tinawo ni David.
20Si Abishai nga utod ni Joab amo ang pangulo sang 3011:20 30: Amo ini sa Syriac kag sa iban nga mga kopya sang Hebreo. Sa kalabanan nga mga kopya sang Hebreo, tatlo. ka maisog nga mga tinawo ni David. Nakapatay siya sang 300 ka Filistinhon paagi sa iya bangkaw. Gani nangin bantog siya pareho sadtong tatlo ka maisog nga mga tawo, 21pero indi siya bahin nila. Kag tungod nga siya ang pinakabantog sa iya kaupod nga 30,11:21 30: sa Hebreo, tatlo. Pero tan-awa sa bersikulo 25. siya ang nangin kumander nila.
22May isa pa ka maisog nga tawo nga ang iya ngalan si Benaya. Taga-Kabzeel siya, kag ang iya amay amo si Jehoyada. Naghimo siya sang pinasahi nga mga buhat, lakip na ang pagpatay sa duha ka pinakamaayo nga soldado sang Moab. Sa isa man ka tion, ginlagas niya ang isa ka leon. Bisan nagasnow kag madanlog, nagpanaog siya sa buho kag ginpatay niya ang leon. 23Sa isa pa gid ka tion, ginpatay niya ang isa ka Egiptohanon nga may kataason nga pito kag tunga ka tapak. Ang armas sang Egiptohanon bangkaw nga mabug-at kag madamol,11:23 mabug-at kag madamol: sa literal, pareho sa likisan sang manughabol (sa English, weaver’s rod). pero ang iya armas inuglampos lang. Gin-agaw niya ang bangkaw sa Egiptohanon kag amo ini ang ginpatay sa iya. 24Amo ato ang mga ginhimo ni Benaya nga anak ni Jehoyada. Nangin bantog man siya pareho sa tatlo ka maisog nga mga tawo, 25pero indi siya bahin nila. Kag tungod nga mas bantog siya sang sa iya kaupod nga 30, ginhimo siya ni David nga pangulo sang iya mga badigard.
26Amo ini ang mga maayo nga mga soldado:

si Jeribai kag Joshavia nga mga anak ni Elnaam,
si Itma nga taga-Moab,
47si Eliel, Obed, kag Jaasiel nga taga-Mezoba.
David becomes king over Israel
1All Israel came together to David at Hebron and said, ‘We are your own flesh and blood. 2In the past, even while Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel on their military campaigns. And the Lord your God said to you, “You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will become their ruler.” ’
3When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.
David conquers Jerusalem
4David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). The Jebusites who lived there 5said to David, ‘You will not get in here.’ Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion – which is the City of David.
6David had said, ‘Whoever leads the attack on the Jebusites will become commander-in-chief.’ Joab son of Zeruiah went up first, and so he received the command.
7David then took up residence in the fortress, and so it was called the City of David. 8He built up the city around it, from the terraces11:8 Or the Millo to the surrounding wall, while Joab restored the rest of the city. 9And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord Almighty was with him.
David’s mighty warriors
10These were the chiefs of David’s mighty warriors – they, together with all Israel, gave his kingship strong support to extend it over the whole land, as the Lord had promised – 11this is the list of David’s mighty warriors:
Jashobeam,11:11 Possibly a variant of Jashob-Baal a Hakmonite, was chief of the officers11:11 Or Thirty; some Septuagint manuscripts Three (see also 2 Samuel 23:8); he raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed in one encounter.
12Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite, one of the three mighty warriors. 13He was with David at Pas Dammim when the Philistines gathered there for battle. At a place where there was a field full of barley, the troops fled from the Philistines. 14But they took their stand in the middle of the field. They defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory.
15Three of the thirty chiefs came down to David to the rock at the cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. 16At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. 17David longed for water and said, ‘Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!’ 18So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the Lord. 19‘God forbid that I should do this!’ he said. ‘Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?’ Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it.
Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors.
20Abishai the brother of Joab was chief of the Three. He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so he became as famous as the Three. 21He was doubly honoured above the Three and became their commander, even though he was not included among them.
22Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 23And he struck down an Egyptian who was five cubits11:23 That is, about 2.3 metres tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s rod in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear. 24Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty warriors. 25He was held in greater honour than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.

Jonathan son of Shagee the Hararite,
35Ahiam son of Sakar the Hararite,
Eliphal son of Ur,
