Salmo 49
Al director musical. Salmo de los hijos de Coré.
1Oíd esto, pueblos todos;
escuchad, habitantes todos del mundo,
2tanto débiles como poderosos,
lo mismo los ricos que los pobres.
3Mi boca hablará con sabiduría;
mi corazón se expresará con inteligencia.
4Inclinaré mi oído a los proverbios;
propondré mi enigma al son del arpa.
5¿Por qué he de temer en tiempos de desgracia,
cuando me rodeen inicuos detractores?
6¿Temeré a los que confían en sus riquezas
y se jactan de sus muchas posesiones?
7Nadie puede salvar a nadie,
ni pagarle a Dios rescate por la vida.
8Tal rescate es muy costoso;
ningún pago es suficiente.
9Nadie vive para siempre
sin llegar a ver la fosa.
10Nadie puede negar que todos mueren,
que sabios e insensatos perecen por igual,
y que sus riquezas se quedan para otros.
11Aunque tuvieron tierras a su nombre,
sus tumbas serán49:11 sus tumbas serán (LXX y Siríaca); su interior será (TM). su hogar eterno,
su morada por todas las generaciones.
12A pesar de sus riquezas, no perduran los mortales;
al igual que las bestias, perecen.
13Tal es el destino de los que confían en sí mismos;
el final de49:13 el final de (Targum); tras ellos (TM). los que se envanecen. Selah
14Como ovejas, están destinados al sepulcro;
hacia allá los conduce la muerte.
Sus cuerpos se pudrirán en el sepulcro,
lejos de sus mansiones suntuosas.
Por la mañana los justos prevalecerán sobre ellos.
15Pero Dios me rescatará de las garras del sepulcro
y con él me llevará. Selah
16No te asombre ver que alguien se enriquezca
y aumente el esplendor de su casa,
17porque al morir no se llevará nada,
ni con él descenderá su esplendor.
18Aunque en vida se considere dichoso,
y la gente lo elogie por sus logros,
19irá a reunirse con sus ancestros,
sin que vuelva jamás a ver la luz.
20A pesar de sus riquezas, no perduran49:20 no perduran (algunos mss.; véase v. 12); no entienden (TM). los mortales;

1Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:49.1 for: or, of

3My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
6They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
9That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
10For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.49.11 all…: Heb. generation and generation
12Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
13This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.49.13 approve…: Heb. delight in their mouth
14Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.49.14 beauty: or, strength49.14 in the grave from…: or, the grave being an habitation to every one of them

16Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
17For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

20Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
