Advertencia contra el adulterio
1Hijo mío, pon atención a mi sabiduría
y presta oído a mi buen juicio,
2para que al hablar mantengas la discreción
y retengas el conocimiento.
3De los labios de la adúltera fluye miel;
su lengua es más suave que el aceite.
4Pero al final resulta más amarga que la hiel
y más cortante que una espada de dos filos.
5Sus pies descienden hasta la muerte;
sus pasos van derecho al sepulcro.
6No tiene ella en cuenta el camino de la vida;
sus sendas son torcidas, y ella no lo reconoce.5:6 y ella no lo reconoce. Alt. y tú no lo sabes.
7Pues bien, hijo mío, préstame atención
y no te apartes de mis palabras.
8Aléjate de la adúltera;
no te acerques a la puerta de su casa,
9para que no entregues a otros tu vigor,
ni tus años a gente cruel;
10para que no sacies con tu fuerza a gente extraña,
ni vayan a dar en casa ajena tus esfuerzos.
11Porque al final acabarás llorando,
cuando todo tu ser5:11 todo tu ser. Lit. tu carne y tu cuerpo. se haya consumido.
12Y dirás: «¡Cómo pude aborrecer la corrección!
¡Cómo pudo mi corazón despreciar la disciplina!
13No atendí a la voz de mis maestros,
ni presté oído a mis instructores.
14Ahora estoy al borde de la ruina,
en medio de toda la comunidad».
15Bebe el agua de tu propio pozo,
el agua que fluye de tu propio manantial.
16¿Habrán de derramarse tus fuentes por las calles
y tus corrientes de aguas por las plazas públicas?
17Son tuyas, solamente tuyas,
y no para que las compartas con extraños.
18¡Bendita sea tu fuente!
¡Goza con la esposa de tu juventud!
19Es una gacela amorosa,
es una cervatilla encantadora.
¡Que sus pechos te satisfagan siempre!
¡Que su amor te cautive todo el tiempo!
20¿Por qué, hijo mío, dejarte cautivar por una adúltera?
¿Por qué abrazarte al pecho de la mujer ajena?
21Nuestros caminos están a la vista del Señor;
él examina todas nuestras sendas.
22Al malvado lo atrapan sus malas obras;
las cuerdas de su pecado lo aprisionan.
23Morirá por su falta de disciplina;
perecerá por su gran insensatez.
A Warning Against Committing Adultery
1My son, pay attention to my wisdom.
Listen carefully to my wise sayings.
2Then you will continue to have good sense.
Your lips will keep on speaking words of knowledge.
3A woman who commits adultery has lips that drip honey.
What she says is smoother than olive oil.
4But in the end she is like bitter poison.
She cuts like a sword that has two edges.
5Her feet go down to death.
Her steps lead straight to the grave.
6She doesn’t give any thought to her way of life.
Her paths have no direction, but she doesn’t realize it.
7My sons, listen to me.
Don’t turn away from what I say.
8Stay on a path far away from that evil woman.
Don’t even go near the door of her house.
9If you do, you will lose your honor to other people.
You will give your self-respect to someone who is mean.
10Strangers will use up all your wealth.
Your hard work will make someone else rich.
11At the end of your life you will groan.
Your skin and your body will be worn out.
12You will say, “How I hated to take advice!
How my heart refused to be corrected!
13I would not obey my teachers.
I wouldn’t listen to those who taught me.
14I was soon in deep trouble.
It happened right in front of the whole assembly of God’s people.”
15Drink water from your own well.
Drink running water from your own spring.
16Should your springs pour out into the streets?
Should your streams of water pour out in public places?
17No! Let them belong to you alone.
Never share them with strangers.
18May your fountain be blessed.
May the wife you married when you were young make you happy.
19She is like a loving doe, a graceful deer.
May her breasts always satisfy you.
May you always be captured by her love.
20My son, why be captured by another man’s wife?
Why hug a woman who has gone astray?
21The Lord watches your ways.
He studies all your paths.
22Sinners are trapped by their own evil acts.
They are held tight by the ropes of their sins.
23They will die because they refused to be corrected.
Their sins will capture them because they were very foolish.
