El dar a los necesitados
1»Cuidaos de no hacer vuestras obras de justicia delante de la gente para llamar la atención. Si actuáis así, vuestro Padre que está en el cielo no os dará ninguna recompensa.
2»Por eso, cuando des a los necesitados, no lo anuncies al son de trompeta, como lo hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles para que la gente les rinda homenaje. Os aseguro que ellos ya han recibido toda su recompensa. 3Más bien, cuando des a los necesitados, que no se entere tu mano izquierda de lo que hace la derecha, 4para que tu limosna sea en secreto. Así tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará.
La oración
6:9-13 – Lc 11:2-4
5»Cuando oréis, no seáis como los hipócritas, porque a ellos les encanta orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las plazas para que la gente los vea. Os aseguro que ya han obtenido toda su recompensa. 6Pero tú, cuando te pongas a orar, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre, que está en lo secreto. Así tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará. 7Y al orar, no habléis solo por hablar como hacen los gentiles, porque ellos se imaginan que serán escuchados por sus muchas palabras. 8No seáis como ellos, porque vuestro Padre sabe lo necesitáis antes de que se lo pidáis.
9»Vosotros, pues, orad así:
»“Padre nuestro que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre,
10venga tu reino,
hágase tu voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.
11Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano.6:11 nuestro pan cotidiano. Alt. el pan que necesitamos.
12Perdónanos nuestras deudas,
como también nosotros hemos perdonado a nuestros deudores.
13Y no nos dejes caer en tentación,

14»Porque, si perdonáis a otros sus ofensas, también os perdonará a vosotros vuestro Padre celestial. 15Pero, si no perdonáis a otros sus ofensas, tampoco vuestro Padre os perdonará a vosotros las vuestras.
El ayuno
16»Cuando ayunéis, no pongáis cara triste como hacen los hipócritas, que demudan sus rostros para mostrar que están ayunando. Os aseguro que estos ya han obtenido toda su recompensa. 17Pero tú, cuando ayunes, perfúmate la cabeza y lávate la cara 18para que no sea evidente ante los demás que estás ayunando, sino solo ante tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve lo que se hace en secreto, te recompensará.
Tesoros en el cielo
6:22-23 – Lc 11:34-36
19»No acumuléis para vosotros tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido destruyen, y donde los ladrones se meten a robar. 20Más bien, acumulad tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido carcomen, ni los ladrones se meten a robar. 21Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.
22»El ojo es la lámpara del cuerpo. Por tanto, si tu visión es clara, todo tu ser disfrutará de la luz. 23Pero, si tu visión está nublada, todo tu ser estará en oscuridad. Si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡qué densa será esa oscuridad!
24»Nadie puede servir a dos señores, pues menospreciará a uno y amará al otro, o querrá mucho a uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a la vez a Dios y a las riquezas.
De nada sirve preocuparse
6:25-33 – Lc 12:22-31
25»Por eso os digo: No os preocupéis por vuestra vida, qué comeréis o beberéis; ni por vuestro cuerpo, cómo os vestiréis. ¿No tiene la vida más valor que la comida, y el cuerpo más que la ropa? 26Fijaos en las aves del cielo: no siembran ni cosechan ni almacenan en graneros; sin embargo, el Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valéis vosotros mucho más que ellas? 27¿Quién de vosotros, por mucho que se preocupe, puede añadir una sola hora al curso de su vida?6:27 puede añadir … su vida. Alt. puede aumentar su estatura siquiera medio metro? (lit. un codo).
28»¿Y por qué os preocupáis por el vestido? Observad cómo crecen los lirios del campo. No trabajan ni hilan; 29sin embargo, os digo que ni siquiera Salomón, con todo su esplendor, se vestía como uno de ellos. 30Si así viste Dios a la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana es arrojada al horno, ¿no hará mucho más por vosotros, gente de poca fe? 31Así que no os preocupéis diciendo: “¿Qué comeremos?” o “¿Qué beberemos?” o “¿Con qué nos vestiremos?” 32Los paganos andan tras todas estas cosas, pero el Padre celestial sabe que necesitáis de todo esto. 33Más bien, buscad primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas. 34Por lo tanto, no os angustiéis por el mañana, el cual tendrá sus propios afanes. Cada día tiene ya sus problemas.

5¶ And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16¶ Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24¶ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
