Juan el Bautista prepara el camino

2Sucedió como está escrito en el profeta Isaías:
«Yo enviaré a mi mensajero delante de ti,
el cual preparará tu camino».1:2 Mal 3:1
3«Voz de uno que grita en el desierto:
“Preparad el camino del Señor,
haced derechas sus sendas”».1:3 Is 40:3
4Así se presentó Juan, bautizando en el desierto y predicando el bautismo de arrepentimiento para el perdón de pecados. 5Toda la gente de la región de Judea y de la ciudad de Jerusalén acudía a él. Cuando confesaban sus pecados, él los bautizaba en el río Jordán. 6Y Juan llevaba un vestido de pelo de camello. Llevaba puesto un cinturón de cuero, y comía langostas y miel silvestre. 7Predicaba de esta manera: «Detrás de mí viene uno más poderoso que yo; ni siquiera merezco agacharme para desatar la correa de sus sandalias. 8Yo os he bautizado con1:8 con. Alt. en. agua, pero él os bautizará con el Espíritu Santo».
Bautismo y tentación de Jesús

9En esos días llegó Jesús desde Nazaret de Galilea y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. 10En seguida, al subir del agua, Jesús vio que el cielo se abría y que el Espíritu bajaba sobre él como una paloma. 11También se oyó una voz del cielo que decía: «Tú eres mi Hijo amado; estoy muy complacido contigo».
12En seguida el Espíritu lo impulsó a ir al desierto, 13y allí fue tentado por Satanás durante cuarenta días. Estaba entre las fieras, y los ángeles le servían.
Llamamiento de los primeros discípulos
1:16-20 – Mt 4:18-22; Lc 5:2-11; Jn 1:35-42
14Después de que encarcelaran a Juan, Jesús se fue a Galilea a anunciar las buenas nuevas de Dios. 15«Se ha cumplido el tiempo —decía—. El reino de Dios está cerca. ¡Arrepentíos y creed las buenas nuevas!»
16Pasando por la orilla del mar de Galilea, Jesús vio a Simón y a su hermano Andrés que echaban la red al lago, pues eran pescadores. 17«Venid, seguidme —les dijo Jesús—, y os haré pescadores de hombres». 18Al momento dejaron las redes y lo siguieron.
19Un poco más adelante vio a Jacobo y a su hermano Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, que estaban en su barca remendando las redes. 20En seguida los llamó, y ellos, dejando a su padre Zebedeo en la barca con los jornaleros, se fueron con Jesús.
Jesús expulsa a un espíritu maligno
1:21-28 – Lc 4:31-37
21Entraron en Capernaún y, tan pronto como llegó el sábado, Jesús fue a la sinagoga y se puso a enseñar. 22La gente se asombraba de su enseñanza, porque la impartía como quien tiene autoridad y no como los maestros de la ley. 23De repente, en la sinagoga, un hombre que estaba poseído por un espíritu maligno gritó:
24―¿Por qué te entrometes, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Yo sé quién eres tú: ¡el Santo de Dios!
25―¡Cállate! —lo reprendió Jesús—. ¡Sal de ese hombre!
26Entonces el espíritu maligno sacudió al hombre violentamente y salió de él dando un alarido. 27Todos se quedaron tan asustados que se preguntaban unos a otros: «¿Qué es esto? ¡Una enseñanza nueva, pues lo hace con autoridad! Ordena incluso a los espíritus malignos, y le obedecen». 28Como resultado, su fama se extendió rápidamente por toda la región de Galilea.
Jesús sana a muchos enfermos

29Tan pronto como salieron de la sinagoga, Jesús fue con Jacobo y Juan a casa de Simón y Andrés. 30La suegra de Simón estaba en cama con fiebre, y en seguida se lo dijeron a Jesús. 31Él se le acercó, la tomó de la mano y la ayudó a levantarse. Entonces se le fue la fiebre y se puso a servirles.
32Al atardecer, cuando ya se ponía el sol, la gente le llevó a Jesús todos los enfermos y endemoniados, 33de manera que la población entera se estaba congregando a la puerta. 34Jesús sanó a muchos que padecían de diversas enfermedades. También expulsó a muchos demonios, pero no los dejaba hablar porque sabían quién era él.
Jesús ora en un lugar solitario
1:35-38 – Lc 4:42-43
35Muy de madrugada, cuando todavía estaba oscuro, Jesús se levantó, salió de la casa y se fue a un lugar solitario, donde se puso a orar. 36Simón y sus compañeros salieron a buscarlo.
37Por fin lo encontraron y le dijeron:
―Todo el mundo te busca.
38Jesús respondió:
―Vámonos de aquí a otras aldeas cercanas donde también pueda predicar; para esto he venido.
39Así que recorrió toda Galilea, predicando en las sinagogas y expulsando demonios.
Jesús sana a un leproso
1:40-44 – Mt 8:2-4; Lc 5:12-14
40Un hombre que tenía lepra se le acercó y, de rodillas, le suplicó:
―Si quieres, puedes limpiarme.
41Movido a compasión, Jesús extendió la mano y tocó al hombre, diciéndole:
―Sí, quiero. ¡Queda limpio!
42Al instante se le quitó la lepra y quedó sano.1:42 sano. Lit. limpio. 43Jesús lo despidió en seguida con una fuerte advertencia:
44―Mira, no se lo digas a nadie; solo ve, preséntate al sacerdote y lleva por tu purificación lo que ordenó Moisés, para que les sirva de testimonio.
45Pero él salió y comenzó a hablar sin reserva, divulgando lo sucedido. Como resultado, Jesús ya no podía entrar en ningún pueblo abiertamente, sino que se quedaba afuera, en lugares solitarios. Aun así, gente de todas partes seguía acudiendo a él.
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
1This is the beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. 2Long ago Isaiah the prophet wrote,
“I will send my messenger ahead of you.
He will prepare your way.” (Malachi 3:1)
3“A messenger is calling out in the desert,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord.
Make straight paths for him.’ ” (Isaiah 40:3)
4And so John the Baptist appeared in the desert. He preached that people should be baptized and turn away from their sins. Then God would forgive them. 5All the people from the countryside of Judea went out to him. All the people from Jerusalem went too. When they admitted they had sinned, John baptized them in the Jordan River. 6John wore clothes made out of camel’s hair. He had a leather belt around his waist. And he ate locusts and wild honey. 7Here is what John was preaching. “After me, there is someone coming who is more powerful than I am. I’m not good enough to bend down and untie his sandals. 8I baptize you with water. But he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus Is Baptized and Tempted
9At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee. John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. 10Jesus was coming up out of the water. Just then he saw heaven being torn open. Jesus saw the Holy Spirit coming down on him like a dove. 11A voice spoke to him from heaven. It said, “You are my Son, and I love you. I am very pleased with you.”
12At once the Holy Spirit sent Jesus out into the desert. 13He was in the desert 40 days. There Satan tempted him. The wild animals didn’t harm Jesus. Angels took care of him.
Jesus Preaches the Good News
14After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee. He preached the good news of God. 15“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Turn away from your sins and believe the good news!”
Jesus Chooses His First Disciples
16One day Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. There he saw Simon and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the lake. They were fishermen. 17“Come and follow me,” Jesus said. “I will send you out to fish for people.” 18At once they left their nets and followed him.
19Then Jesus walked a little farther. As he did, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat preparing their nets. 20Right away he called out to them. They left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men. Then they followed Jesus.
Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit
21Jesus and those with him went to Capernaum. When the Sabbath day came, he went into the synagogue. There he began to teach. 22The people were amazed at his teaching. That’s because he taught them like one who had authority. He did not talk like the teachers of the law. 23Just then a man in their synagogue cried out. He was controlled by an evil spirit. He said, 24“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the Holy One of God!”
25“Be quiet!” said Jesus firmly. “Come out of him!” 26The evil spirit shook the man wildly. Then it came out of him with a scream.
27All the people were amazed. So they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching! And with so much authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits, and they obey him.” 28News about Jesus spread quickly all over Galilee.
Jesus Heals Many People
29Jesus and those with him left the synagogue. Right away they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30Simon’s mother-in-law was lying in bed with a fever. They told Jesus about her right away. 31So he went to her. He took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her. Then she began to serve them.
32That evening after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were sick. They also brought all who were controlled by demons. 33All the people in town gathered at the door. 34Jesus healed many of them. They had all kinds of sicknesses. He also drove out many demons. But he would not let the demons speak, because they knew who he was.
Jesus Prays in a Quiet Place
35It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone. There he prayed. 36Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. 37When they found him, they called out, “Everyone is looking for you!”
38Jesus replied, “Let’s go somewhere else. I want to go to the nearby towns. I must preach there also. That is why I have come.” 39So he traveled all around Galilee. He preached in their synagogues. He also drove out demons.
Jesus Heals a Man Who Had a Skin Disease
40A man who had a skin disease came to Jesus. On his knees he begged Jesus. He said, “If you are willing to make me ‘clean,’ you can do it.”
41Jesus became angry. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing to do it,” Jesus said. “Be ‘clean’!” 42Right away the disease left the man, and he was “clean.”
43Jesus sent him away at once. He gave the man a strong warning. 44“Don’t tell this to anyone,” he said. “Go and show yourself to the priest. Offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded. It will be a witness to the priest and the people that you are ‘clean.’ ” 45But the man went out and started talking right away. He spread the news to everyone. So Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. He stayed outside in lonely places. But people still came to him from everywhere.
