Zavjera protiv Isusa
(Mt 26:2-5; Lk 22:1-2; Iv 11:45-53)
1Bila su dva dana do Pashe i do Blagdana beskvasnih kruhova. Svećenički poglavari i pismoznanci još su čekali prigodu da Isusa na prijevaru uhvate i ubiju. 2“Nećemo na blagdanskoj svetkovini”, rekli su, “da se narod ne pobuni.”
Pomazanje u Betaniji
(Mt 26:6-13; Lk 7:37-38; Iv 12:1-8)
3Dok je Isus u međuvremenu bio u Betaniji u kući Šimuna gubavca, uđe neka žena s alabasternom posudom skupocjenoga nardova mirisnog ulja. Razbije grlo posude i izlije ulje Isusu na glavu.
4Neki se zbog toga naljute: “Čemu tako rasipati skupocjenu pomast! 5Mogla se skupo prodati,14:5 U grčkome: prodati za više od tristo denara. a novac dati siromasima.”
6Ali Isus im reče: “Pustite ju na miru! Zašto joj dodijavate? Učinila mi je dobro djelo. 7Siromaha će uvijek biti da im pomažete kad god budete htjeli, a ja neću uvijek biti s vama. 8Ona je učinila što je mogla. Unaprijed je pomazala moje tijelo za ukop. 9Zaista vam kažem, gdje god se diljem svijeta bude propovijedala Radosna vijest, spominjat će se i ovo njezino djelo, njoj na uspomenu.”
Juda pristaje izdati Isusa
(Mt 26:14-16; Lk 22:3-6)
10Tada Juda Iškariotski, jedan od Dvanaestorice, ode svećeničkim poglavarima da se dogovori kako će izdati Isusa. 11Oni se obraduju i obećaju mu dati novca. Tako Juda počne tražiti prigodu da izda Isusa.
Posljednja večera
(Mt 26:17-19; Lk 22:7-13)
12Na prvi dan Blagdana beskvasnih kruhova, kad je bio običaj žrtvovati pashalno janje, učenici upitaju Isusa: “Gdje želiš da ti pripravimo pashalnu večeru?”
13On pošalje dvojicu u Jeruzalem: “Idite u grad. Tamo ćete sresti čovjeka koji nosi vodu u vrču. Pođite za njim. 14U kući u koju uđe potražite domaćina pa mu recite: ‘Učitelj pita u kojoj sobi može blagovati pashalnu večeru sa svojim učenicima.’ 15On će vam pokazati veliku sobu na katu, posve pripremljenu. Ondje nam pripravite večeru.”
16Učenici odu u grad i nađu sve kako im je Isus rekao te ondje pripreme pashalnu večeru.
Juda pristaje izdati Isusa
(Mt 26:20-25; Lk 22:21-23)
17Uvečer Isus dođe s Dvanaestoricom. 18Dok su jeli za stolom, reče im: “Zaista vam kažem, jedan od vas koji sa mnom jedete izdat će me!”
19Oni se silno ražaloste pa ga jedan za drugim počnu pitati: “Nisam valjda ja taj?”
20On odgovori: “To je jedan od vas Dvanaestorice, koji sa mnom umače kruh u istu zdjelu. 21Jer ja, Sin Čovječji, moram umrijeti kao što piše u Svetome pismu. Ali teško onome koji izda Sina Čovječjega! Bilo bi mu bolje da se nije ni rodio!”
Posljednja večera
(1 Kor 11:23-25)
22Dok su blagovali, Isus uzme kruh, blagoslovi ga i razlomi ga i podijeli im govoreći: “Uzmite! Ovo je moje tijelo.”
23Zatim uzme čašu vina, zahvali Bogu i pruži njima. Svi su iz nje pili. 24A on im reče: “Ovo je moja krv, krv14:24 U nekim rukopisima: krv Novoga saveza. Saveza, koja se za mnoge prolijeva. 25Zaista vam kažem: Neću više piti vina14:25 U grčkome: neću piti od trsova roda. sve do onoga dana kada ću piti novo vino u Božjemu kraljevstvu.”
26Otpjevaju zatim psalme i zapute se prema Maslinskoj gori.
Isusovo proroštvo o Petru
(Mt 26:31-35; Lk 22:31-34; Iv 13:36-38)
27“Svi ćete me napustiti”, reče im Isus, “jer u Svetome pismu piše:
‘Udarit ću pastira
i ovce će se razbježati.’14:27 Zaharija 13:7.
28Ali kada uskrsnem, ići ću pred vama u Galileju.”
29Petar mu reče: “Napuste li te i svi ostali, ja te neću napustiti!”
30“Zaista ti kažem,” reče mu Isus, “još ove noći, prije nego što se pijetao drugi put oglasi, triput ćeš me se odreći.”
31“Neću!” stane ga uvjeravati Petar. “Makar morao s tobom i umrijeti, neću te se odreći!” Tako su se zaklinjali i svi ostali.
Isus se moli u Getsemaniju
(Mt 26:36-46; Lk 22:39-46)
32Dođu tako u maslinik nazvan Getsemani, a Isus reče učenicima: “Sjednite ovdje dok se ja pomolim!” 33Povede sa sobom Petra, Jakova i Ivana. Obuzmu ga tjeskoba i duboka žalost. 34Tada im reče: “Duša mi je nasmrt shrvana tugom. Ostanite ovdje i bdijte.”
35Ode malo dalje i padne ničice. Molio se da ga, ako je moguće, mimoiđe strašni trenutak koji ga čeka. 36“Abba!14:36 Na aramejskome: Oče! Oče!” molio je, “tebi je sve moguće. Otkloni ovu čašu od mene! Ipak, neka bude po tvojoj, a ne po mojoj volji.”
37Zatim se vrati trojici učenika i nađe ih spavati te reče Petru: “Šimune! Zar spavaš? Nisi mogao ni ure probdjeti? 38Ostanite budni i molite da vas ne bi svladala kušnja! Jer duh je spreman, ali je tijelo slabo.”
39Ode još jedanput i pomoli se istim riječima. 40I opet ih po povratku nađe spavati jer su im oči otežale. Nisu znali što bi mu rekli.
41Kad se treći put vratio, reče im: “Još spavate i odmarate se? Dosta je bilo! Kucnuo je čas! Ja, Sin Čovječji, predan sam grešnicima u ruke. 42Ustanite! Hajdemo! Evo, moj je izdajnik već tu!”
Isusovo uhićenje
(Mt 26:47-56; Lk 22:47-53; Iv 18:3-11)
43Upravo tada stigne Juda, jedan od Dvanaestorice, a s njime i svjetina naoružana mačevima i toljagama, koju su poslali svećenički poglavari, pismoznanci i drugi starješine. 44Izdajica im je dao znak: “To je onaj kojega poljubim. Uhvatite ga i odvedite pod stražom.”
45On odmah priđe Isusu i reče: “Učitelju!14:45 U grčkome: Rabbi!” i poljubi ga. 46Zatim podignu ruke na Isusa i uhvate ga. 47Jedan od nazočnih nato izvuče mač i njime odsiječe uho sluzi velikoga svećenika.
48Isus reče: “Pošli ste na mene mačevima i toljagama kao na prevratnika! 49A svaki dan sam u Hramu poučavao, pa me ipak niste uhvatili. Ali sve se ovo događa zato da bi se ispunilo ono što o meni piše u Pismu.”
50Nato ga svi učenici napuste i pobjegnu. 51Slijedio ga je samo neki mladić u noćnoj košulji od gruba platna na golom tijelu. Kad su ga pokušali uhvatiti, 52on ostavi košulju koju su mu strgnuli i gol pobjegne od njih.
Isus pred Velikim vijećem
(Mt 26:57-68; Lk 22:54-55, 63-71; Iv 18:12-13, 19-24)
53Isusa odvedu velikomu svećeniku i se ubrzo okupe ostali svećenički poglavari, pismoznanci i starješine. 54Petar ga je izdaleka slijedio i ušao u dvorište palače velikog svećenika. Sjeo je sa slugama uz vatru da se zagrije.
55Unutra su svećenički poglavari i cijelo Veliko vijeće tražili svjedočanstvo protiv Isusa na temelju kojega bi ga mogli smaknuti. Ali nisu ga mogli pronaći. 56Mnogi su lažno svjedočili, ali im se iskazi nisu podudarali. 57Zatim su neki o njemu lagali: 58“Čuli smo ga kad je rekao: ‘Srušit ću ovaj Hram izgrađen ljudskim rukama i za tri dana ću izgraditi drugi, bez ljudskih ruku!’” 59Ali ni tada im se svjedočanstvo nije podudaralo.
60Veliki svećenik zatim stane pred sud i upita Isusa: “Zar ništa ne odgovaraš na ove optužbe protiv tebe?” 61Isus ne odgovori. Tada ga veliki svećenik upita: “Jesi li ti Mesija, Sin Preslavnoga Boga?”
62Isus odgovori: “Jesam. I gledat ćete Sina Čovječjega kako sjedi zdesna Svemogućemu i kako dolazi na nebeskim oblacima.”
63Nato veliki svećenik razdere svoju odjeću i reče: “Što će nam još svjedoci? 64Čuli ste ga kako huli! Što kažete?” I svi ga osude na smrt.
65Neki počnu pljuvati po njemu. Pokrili su mu oči i onda ga udarali šakama rugajući se: “Pogodi tko te udario, proroče!” Čak su ga i sluge udarali.
Petar se odriče Isusa
(Mt 26:69-75; Lk 22:54-62; Iv 18:15-18, 25-27)
66Dok je Petar bio u dvorištu, dođe sluškinja velikog svećenika. 67Kad ugleda Petra da se grije pokraj vatre, pobliže ga promotri i reče: “I ti si bio s Isusom Nazarećaninom!”
68Petar zaniječe: “Niti znam niti razumijem o čemu govoriš!” I iziđe u predvorje. Upravo tada zakukuriče pijetao.
69Sluškinja ga opazi da ondje stoji pa opet počne govoriti ostalima: “Onaj je čovjek jedan od njih!” 70Petar ponovno zaniječe.
Poslije i ostali koji su se ondje našli počnu Petru govoriti: “Pa ti si doista jedan od njih, a i Galilejac si!”
71Petar se stane kleti i zaklinjati: “Ja i ne poznajem tog čovjeka o kojemu vi govorite!” 72I pijetao odmah drugi put zakukuriče. Petar se tada sjeti što mu je Isus rekao: “Prije nego što se pijetao drugi put oglasi, triput ćeš me se odreći.” I brizne u plač.
A Woman Pours Perfume on Jesus at Bethany
1The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were plotting to arrest Jesus secretly. They wanted to kill him. 2“But not during the feast,” they said. “The people may stir up trouble.”
3Jesus was in Bethany. He was at the table in the home of Simon, who had a skin disease. A woman came with a special sealed jar. It contained very expensive perfume made out of pure nard. She broke the jar open and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head.
4Some of the people there became angry. They said to one another, “Why waste this perfume? 5It could have been sold for more than a year’s pay. The money could have been given to poor people.” So they found fault with the woman.
6“Leave her alone,” Jesus said. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7You will always have poor people with you. You can help them any time you want to. But you will not always have me. 8She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body to prepare me to be buried. 9What I’m about to tell you is true. What she has done will be told anywhere the good news is preached all over the world. It will be told in memory of her.”
10Judas Iscariot was one of the 12 disciples. He went to the chief priests to hand Jesus over to them. 11They were delighted to hear that he would do this. They promised to give Judas money. So he watched for the right time to hand Jesus over to them.
The Last Supper
12It was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. That was the time to sacrifice the Passover lamb. Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover meal?”
13So he sent out two of his disciples. He told them, “Go into the city. A man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14He will enter a house. Say to its owner, ‘The Teacher asks, “Where is my guest room? Where can I eat the Passover meal with my disciples?” ’ 15He will show you a large upstairs room. It will have furniture and will be ready. Prepare for us to eat there.”
16The disciples left and went into the city. They found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover meal.
17When evening came, Jesus arrived with the 12 disciples. 18While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, “What I’m about to tell you is true. One of you who is eating with me will hand me over to my enemies.”
19The disciples became sad. One by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?”
20“It is one of you,” Jesus replied. “It is the one who dips bread into the bowl with me. 21The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But how terrible it will be for the one who hands over the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, “Take it. This is my body.”
23Then he took a cup. He gave thanks and handed it to them. All of them drank from it.
24“This is my blood of the covenant,” he said to them. “It is poured out for many. 25What I’m about to tell you is true. I won’t drink wine with you again until the day I drink it in God’s kingdom.”
26Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus Says That the Disciples Will Turn Away
27“You will all turn away,” Jesus told the disciples. “It is written,
“ ‘I will strike the shepherd down.
Then the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zechariah 13:7)
28But after I rise from the dead, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
29Peter said, “All the others may turn away. But I will not.”
30“What I’m about to tell you is true,” Jesus answered. “It will happen today, in fact tonight. Before the rooster crows twice, you yourself will say three times that you don’t know me.”
31But Peter would not give in. He said, “I may have to die with you. But I will never say I don’t know you.” And all the others said the same thing.
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
32Jesus and his disciples went to a place called Gethsemane. Jesus said to them, “Sit here while I pray.” 33He took Peter, James and John along with him. He began to be very upset and troubled. 34“My soul is very sad. I feel close to death,” he said to them. “Stay here. Keep watch.”
35He went a little farther. Then he fell to the ground. He prayed that, if possible, the hour might pass by him. 36“Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”
37Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? 38Watch and pray. Then you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
39Once more Jesus went away and prayed the same thing. 40Then he came back. Again he found them sleeping. They couldn’t keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him.
41Jesus returned the third time. He said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look! The Son of Man is about to be handed over to sinners. 42Get up! Let us go! Here comes the one who is handing me over to them!”
Jesus Is Arrested
43Just as Jesus was speaking, Judas appeared. He was one of the 12 disciples. A crowd was with him. They were carrying swords and clubs. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders had sent them.
44Judas, who was going to hand Jesus over, had arranged a signal with them. “The one I kiss is the man,” he said. “Arrest him and have the guards lead him away.” 45So Judas went to Jesus at once. Judas said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed Jesus. 46The men grabbed Jesus and arrested him. 47Then one of those standing nearby pulled his sword out. He struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.
48“Am I leading a band of armed men against you?” asked Jesus. “Do you have to come out with swords and clubs to capture me? 49Every day I was with you. I taught in the temple courtyard, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true.” 50Then everyone left him and ran away.
51A young man was following Jesus. The man was wearing nothing but a piece of linen cloth. When the crowd grabbed him, 52he ran away naked. He left his clothing behind.
Jesus Is Taken to the Sanhedrin
53The crowd took Jesus to the high priest. All the chief priests, the elders, and the teachers of the law came together. 54Not too far away, Peter followed Jesus. He went right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards. He warmed himself at the fire.
55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for something to use against Jesus. They wanted to put him to death. But they did not find any proof. 56Many witnesses lied about him. But their stories did not agree.
57Then some of them stood up. Here is what those false witnesses said about him. 58“We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made by human hands. In three days I will build another temple, not made by human hands.’ ” 59But what they said did not agree.
60Then the high priest stood up in front of them. He asked Jesus, “Aren’t you going to answer? What are these charges these men are bringing against you?” 61But Jesus remained silent. He gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?”
62“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One. You will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven.”
63The high priest tore his clothes. “Why do we need any more witnesses?” he asked. 64“You have heard him say a very evil thing against God. What do you think?”
They all found him guilty and said he must die. 65Then some began to spit at him. They blindfolded him. They hit him with their fists. They said, “Prophesy!” And the guards took him and beat him.
Peter Says He Does Not Know Jesus
66Peter was below in the courtyard. One of the high priest’s female servants came by. 67When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him.
“You also were with Jesus, that Nazarene,” she said.
68But Peter said he had not been with him. “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,” he said. He went out to the entrance to the courtyard.
69The servant saw him there. She said again to those standing around, “This fellow is one of them.” 70Again he said he was not.
After a little while, those standing nearby said to Peter, “You must be one of them. You are from Galilee.”
71Then Peter began to curse. He said to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about!”
72Right away the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had spoken to him. “The rooster will crow twice,” he had said. “Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Peter broke down and cried.
