耶和華責備亞哈謝
1亞哈死後，摩押背叛以色列。 2一天，亞哈謝從撒瑪利亞王宮的樓臺上掉下來，受了傷，就派使者去求問以革倫的神明巴力·西蔔，看自己能否痊癒。 3耶和華的天使對提斯比人以利亞說：「你去截住撒瑪利亞王的使者，對他們說，『你們為什麼去求問以革倫的神明巴力·西蔔？難道以色列沒有上帝嗎？』 4因此耶和華說，『亞哈謝再也不能下床了，他必定死。』」以利亞就去了。
5以利亞將天使的話告訴王的使者後，他們便回去見王。王問他們：「你們為什麼這麼快就回來了？」 6他們答道：「有一個人在路上截住我們，要我們回來告訴你，耶和華對你說，『你差人去求問以革倫的神明巴力·西蔔，是因為以色列沒有上帝嗎？因此，你再也不能下床了，你必定死。』」 7王又問他們：「在路上截住你們、對你們說這些話的，是什麼樣的人？」 8他們答道：「那人身穿毛皮衣服，腰束皮帶。」王說：「他是提斯比人以利亞。」
9於是，王派一個五十夫長率領五十人去找以利亞。那時，以利亞正坐在山頂上。五十夫長到了那裡，對他說：「上帝的僕人啊，王命令你下來。」 10以利亞說：「我若是上帝的僕人，願火從天降下燒死你和你的五十個部下。」火立刻從天降下，燒死了五十夫長和他的五十個部下。 11亞哈謝王又派一個五十夫長率領五十人去以利亞那裡，五十夫長對以利亞說：「上帝的僕人啊，王命令你馬上下來。」 12以利亞說：「我若是上帝的僕人，願火從天降下，燒死你和你的五十個部下。」上帝的火從天降下，燒死了五十夫長和他的五十個部下。
13王再次派一個五十夫長率領五十人前去。五十夫長上去，雙膝跪在以利亞面前，哀求道：「上帝的僕人啊，求你饒了我和你的五十名僕人的性命。 14前兩個五十夫長和他們的部下都被天上降下的火燒死了，現在求你饒我一命！」 15耶和華的天使對以利亞說：「不要害怕，跟他去吧！」以利亞就起來跟他去見王。 16以利亞對王說：「耶和華說，『你差人去求問以革倫的神明巴力·西蔔，是因為以色列沒有上帝可以求問嗎？因此，你再也不能下床了，你必定死。』」
17亞哈謝果然死了，正如耶和華藉以利亞所說的。他沒有兒子，他兄弟約蘭繼位，那年是猶大王約沙法的兒子約蘭執政第二年。 18亞哈謝其他的事都記在以色列的列王史上。
1Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. 2And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease. 3But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? 4Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. 5¶ And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back? 6And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. 7And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?1.7 What…: Heb. What was the manner of the man 8And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.
9Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down. 10And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. 11Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly. 12And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
13¶ And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.1.13 fell: Heb. bowed 14Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight. 15And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king. 16And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
17¶ So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son. 18Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
