以利沙找回斧头
1一群先知对以利沙说：“你看，我们住的地方实在太小了。 2请让我们去约旦河吧，我们每人都可以从那里砍一根木头盖房子居住。”以利沙说：“你们去吧。” 3其中一人请以利沙一起去，以利沙答应了， 4便和他们一起去约旦河砍伐树木。 5有个人砍树的时候，斧头掉进了水里。他大喊：“唉！师傅，这把斧头是借来的。” 6上帝的仆人问：“斧头掉在哪里了？”他就指给以利沙看。以利沙砍了一根树枝抛进水里，斧头便浮了上来。 7以利沙说：“你去拿上来吧！”他便伸手拿起了斧头。
以利沙使亚兰军败退
8亚兰王与以色列人交战，他和臣仆商议要在某处安营。 9上帝的仆人派人去禀告以色列王说：“你要小心，不要经过那个地方，因为亚兰人埋伏在那里。” 10以色列王派人到上帝的仆人所说的地方，警告那里的人要小心防备。这样的事情发生了好几次。
11亚兰王因此十分恼怒，召来臣仆质问他们：“你们当中谁向以色列王泄露了我们的计划？” 12一位臣仆说：“我主我王啊，没有人泄露。是以色列的先知以利沙将王在寝宫所谈的事告诉了以色列王。” 13王说：“去找出他在哪里，我派人去捉拿他。”王得知以利沙在多坍后， 14便派出大队人马和战车前往那里，他们在夜间抵达多坍，把城围住。 15上帝仆人的侍者清早起来，走到外面，看见城被军队、车马包围，就对上帝的仆人说：“唉！我主啊，怎么办呢？” 16上帝的仆人说：“不要害怕！我们的人比他们的还要多。” 17他随后祷告：“耶和华啊，求你开他的眼睛，让他看见。”于是，耶和华开那个仆人的眼睛，他就看见山上到处都是火车火马围绕着以利沙。 18亚兰人向以利沙冲来，以利沙祈求耶和华说：“求你使他们瞎眼。”耶和华听了以利沙的祷告，使他们瞎了眼。 19以利沙对他们说：“不是这条路，也不是这座城。跟我来，我带你们到你们要找的人那里。”以利沙把他们领到撒玛利亚。
20他们进城后，以利沙祷告：“耶和华啊，求你开他们的眼睛，让他们看见。”耶和华开了他们的眼睛，他们就看见了，发现自己在撒玛利亚城中。 21以色列王看见他们，问以利沙说：“我父啊，我可以杀他们吗？” 22以利沙答道：“不可杀他们。岂可杀从战场上抓来的俘虏呢？给他们吃的喝的，让他们回自己主人那里吧。” 23于是，以色列王为他们大摆宴席，等他们吃喝完毕，便放他们回自己主人那里。之后，亚兰人不再侵犯以色列。
撒玛利亚城被围困
24后来，亚兰王便·哈达召集全军围困撒玛利亚。 25撒玛利亚被困后，城里陷入严重饥荒，以致一个驴头可卖九百克银子，二百克鸽子粪可卖十一克银子。 26一天，以色列王从城墙上走过，一个妇人向他哭喊道：“我主我王啊，求你帮帮我！” 27王说：“如果耶和华不帮助你，我怎能帮助你呢？我既无粮也无酒。 28你有什么难处呢？” 29妇人说：“这个女人对我说，‘我们今天吃你儿子，明天再吃我儿子。’于是我们把我儿子煮了吃。第二天我叫她把她儿子交出来，她却把儿子藏了起来。” 30王听了妇人的话，就撕裂衣服。王走在城墙上，人们都看见他贴身穿着麻衣。 31王说：“如果今天沙法的儿子以利沙的头颅还留在他颈项上，愿上帝重重地惩罚我！”
32王派使者去以利沙那里。那时，以利沙正与长老们坐在他家中。使者到达之前，以利沙对长老说：“你们看，这凶手派人来斩我的头。使者到达时，你们要把他关在门外。他后面不就是他主人的脚步声吗？” 33话音未落，使者已经到了，说：“既然这祸是从耶和华来的，我何必再仰望祂呢？”
1And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. 2Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye. 3And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. 4So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. 5But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.6.5 axe head: Heb. iron 6And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. 7Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.
8¶ Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.6.8 camp: or, encamping 9And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down. 10And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice. 11Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? 12And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.6.12 None: Heb. 13¶ And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. 14Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.6.14 great: Heb. heavy 15And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?6.15 the servant: or, the minister 16And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 18And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19¶ And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.6.19 follow…: Heb. come ye after me 20And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. 21And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them? 22And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master. 23And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
24¶ And it came to pass after this, that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria. 25And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver. 26And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. 27And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?6.27 If…: or, Let not the LORD save thee 28And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. 29So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.6.29 next: Heb. other
30¶ And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh. 31Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day. 32But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him? 33And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?
