Уззия – царь Иудеи
(4 Цар. 14:21-22; 15:1-3)
1После этого весь народ Иудеи взял Уззию, которому было шестнадцать лет, и сделал его царём вместо его отца Амасии. 2Это он отстроил порт Елат и вернул его Иудее, после того как Амасия упокоился со своими предками.
3Уззии было шестнадцать лет, когда он стал царём, и правил он в Иерусалиме пятьдесят два года. Его мать звали Иехолия, она была родом из Иерусалима. 4Он делал то, что было правильным в глазах Вечного, как и его отец Амасия. 5Он искал Всевышнего при жизни Закарии, который наставлял его в страхе перед Всевышним. Пока он искал Вечного, Всевышний посылал ему успех.
6Он пошёл войной на филистимлян и разрушил стены городов Гата, Иавне и Ашдода. После этого он отстроил города рядом с Ашдодом и в других местах филистимской земли. 7Всевышний помогал ему в битве против филистимлян, арабов, которые жили в Гур-Баале, и меунитян. 8Аммонитяне платили Уззии дань, и его слава дошла до Египта, потому что он стал очень могуществен.
9Уззия возвёл башни в Иерусалиме над Угловыми воротами, над воротами Долины и на углу стены и укрепил их. 10Он возвёл башни и в пустыне и вытесал много хранилищ для воды, потому что у него было много скота в предгорьях и на равнине. А в горах и на плодородных землях у него трудились землепашцы и виноградари. Он любил земледелие.
11У Уззии было хорошо обученное войско, готовое выступить на войну по отделениям, по числу в списках, составленных писарем Иеилом и чиновником Маасеей под руководством Ханании, одного из царских сановников. 12Общим счётом глав храбрых воинов было две тысячи шестьсот человек. 13Под их началом было войско из трёхсот семи тысяч пятисот обученных воинов – огромная сила, чтобы помогать царю в битве против врагов. 14Уззия заготовил для всего войска щиты, копья, шлемы, латы, луки и камни для пращей. 15В Иерусалиме он соорудил машины, придуманные искусными мастерами, чтобы с башен и с углов городских стен пускать стрелы и метать огромные камни. Слава о нём распространилась далеко, он получал большую помощь и стал могущественным царём.
Падение и наказание Уззии
(4 Цар. 15:5-7)
16Но когда Уззия обрёл могущество, гордыня привела его к падению. Он нарушил верность Вечному, своему Богу, и вошёл в храм Вечного, чтобы возжечь благовония на жертвеннике. 17Священнослужитель Азария и с ним ещё восемьдесят священнослужителей, мужественных людей, вошли вслед за ним, 18преградили ему путь и сказали:
– Не подобает тебе, Уззия, возжигать Вечному благовония. Это удел священнослужителей, потомков Хоруна, которые были посвящены, чтобы возжигать благовония. Покинь святилище – ты совершил преступление и не будешь в чести у Вечного Бога!
19Уззия, который держал в руке сосуд для возжигания благовоний и был уже готов совершать приношение, разгневался. И в то время, когда он гневался на священнослужителей, у него на лбу появилась проказа26:19 На языке оригинала здесь и далее в этой главе стоит слово, которое обозначает несколько разных кожных болезней, а не только проказу.. Это произошло на глазах у священнослужителей, в храме Вечного, перед жертвенником. 20Когда главный священнослужитель Азария и все остальные священнослужители посмотрели на него, они увидели это, и поспешили вывести его оттуда. Да и сам он спешил уйти, потому что Вечный поразил его.
21Царь Уззия был прокажённым до самой его смерти. Он жил в отдельном доме, больной, отлучённый от храма Вечного. Иотам, его сын, распоряжался в царском дворце и управлял народом страны.
22Прочие события царствования Уззии, от первых до последних, записал пророк Исаия, сын Амоца. 23Уззия упокоился со своими предками и был похоронен рядом с ними на поле для погребения, которое принадлежало царям. Он не был похоронен с ними в пещерах, потому что народ говорил: «Он был болен проказой». И царём вместо него стал его сын Иотам.

16¶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense. 17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men: 18And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God. 19Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar. 20And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him. 21And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.26.21 several: Heb. free
22¶ Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write. 23So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.
