1Тот, кто коснеет в упрямстве после многих упрёков,
будет внезапно погублен – без исцеления.
2Когда умножаются праведники, люди радуются,
а когда правят нечестивые, люди стонут.
3Человек, любящий мудрость, приносит отцу радость,
а приятель блудниц расточает богатство.
4Правосудием царь укрепляет страну,
а жадный до взяток её разоряет.
5Льстящий ближнему своему
раскидывает сеть у него под ногами.
6Злодея ловит его же грех,
а праведник может петь и радоваться.
7Праведный заботится о правах бедняков,
а нечестивый в них и не вникает.
8Глумливые возмущают город,
а мудрецы отвращают гнев.
9Где мудрый судится с глупцом,
там лишь злость и издёвки и нет покоя.
10Кровожадные люди ненавидят беспорочных
и праведников хотят лишить жизни29:10 Или: «а праведники заботятся об их жизни»..
11Глупец даёт гневу свободный выход,
а мудрый владеет собой.
12Если правитель внимает лжи,
все его сановники становятся злодеями.
13У бедняка с притеснителем вот что общее:
Вечный дал зрение глазам обоих.
14Если царь судит бедных по справедливости,
его престол утвердится навеки.
15Розга и обличение дают мудрость,
а ребёнок, оставленный в небрежении, срамит свою мать.
16Когда умножаются нечестивые, умножается грех,
но праведники увидят их гибель.
17Наказывай сына, и он принесёт тебе покой;
он доставит душе твоей радость.
18Где нет откровений свыше, народ распоясывается;
но благословенны те, кто соблюдает Закон.
19Раба не исправить одними словами:
он понимает, но не внимает.
20Видел ли ты человека, что говорит не подумав?
На глупца больше надежды, чем на него.
21Если раб избалован с детства,
то в конце концов он принесёт тебе печаль29:21 Или: «то в конце концов он захочет стать сыном»..
22Гневливый разжигает ссоры,
и несдержанный совершает много грехов.
23Гордость человека его принизит,
а смиренный духом будет прославлен.
24Сообщник воров – враг самому себе;
он слышит, как заклинают выйти свидетелей, но не осмеливается29:24 См. Лев. 5:1..
25Страх перед человеком – ловушка,
а надеющийся на Вечного находится в безопасности.
26Многие ищут приёма у правителя,
но справедливость – от Вечного.
27Нечестивые – мерзость для праведников,
а честные – мерзость для неправедных.
