Монолог Аюба
1И продолжил Аюб своё рассуждение:
2– Как я томлюсь по прошедшим месяцам,
по тем дням, когда Всевышний хранил меня,
3и светильник Его сиял над моей головой,
и при свете Его я шёл сквозь тьму!
4О, это были мои лучшие годы,
когда совет Всевышнего хранил мой шатёр,
5когда Всемогущий ещё был со мной,
а дети – вокруг меня,
6когда омывался мой путь молоком,
и скала источала для меня оливковое масло.
7Выходил ли я к городским воротам
и садился ли на площади,
8меня завидев, юноши отступали,
и поднимались старцы;
9властители удерживались от слов
и прикрывали рты руками;
10голоса знатных стихали,
прилипали у них языки к нёбу.
11Кто меня слышал, превозносил меня,
кто меня видел, меня хвалил,
12ведь я спасал плачущего бедняка
и беспомощного сироту.
13Умирающий благословлял меня,
и сердце вдовы наполнял я радостной песней.
14Я надевал праведность, как одежду,
справедливость – как мантию и тюрбан.
15Слепому я был глазами
и хромому – ногами.
16Я был отцом для бедняков;
я разбирал дело странника.
17Я сокрушал челюсти беззаконных
и спасал жертвы из их зубов.
18Я думал: «Скончаюсь в своём гнезде,
и дни мои будут многочисленны, как песок.
19Как дерево, чьи корни достигают воды,
на чьи ветви ложится роса,
20не увядает слава моя,
и крепко рука моя держит лук».
21Внимали мне, ожидали меня,
в молчании слушали мой совет.
22Когда замолкал я, больше не говорили;
ложились слова мои, как роса.
23Ждали меня, как дождя,
и слова мои ртом ловили, как ливень весенний.
24Не могли поверить, если я им улыбался,
света лица моего они не помрачали.
25Воссев, как вождь, я направлял их;
я был словно царь посреди войска,
словно тот, кто плачущих утешает.
