Каин и Авель
1Адам познал Хаву, свою жену, и она забеременела и родила Каина («приобретение»)4:1 О переводе имён и названий см. приложение VI.. Она сказала: «С помощью Вечного я приобрела человека». 2Потом она родила его брата Авеля.
Авель пас стада, а Каин обрабатывал землю. 3Через некоторое время Каин принёс в дар Вечному плоды земли, 4а Авель пожертвовал лучшие части4:4 Букв.: «жирные части». По Закону Таурата курдюк и жир с внутренностей жертвенных животных сжигались в качестве приношения Аллаху (см. Лев. 3:3-5, 14-17; 7:3-5). первородных своего стада. Авель и его дар были угодны Вечному, 5но Каин и его дар не были угодны Ему. Каин разгневался, и лицо его потемнело от злости.
6Тогда Вечный сказал Каину:
– Почему ты сердишься? Почему твоё лицо потемнело? 7Если ты будешь поступать правильно, неужели ты не будешь принят? Но если ты поступаешь неправильно, то у твоих дверей притаился грех: он желает овладеть тобой, но ты должен властвовать над ним.
8Каин сказал своему брату Авелю:
– Пойдём в поле.
Когда они были в поле, Каин накинулся на своего брата Авеля и убил его.
9Тогда Вечный сказал Каину:
– Где твой брат Авель?
– Не знаю, – ответил тот. – Разве я сторож моему брату?
10Вечный сказал:
– Что ты наделал? Кровь твоего брата взывает ко Мне из земли. 11Теперь ты проклят, изгнан с земли, которая впитала кровь твоего брата, пролитую твоей рукой. 12Когда ты будешь трудиться на земле, она не станет больше плодоносить для тебя. Ты будешь на земле бесприютным скитальцем.
13Каин сказал Вечному:
– Моё наказание тяжелее, чем я могу вынести. 14Ныне Ты гонишь меня с лица земли, и я буду скрыт от Твоего присутствия: я буду на земле бесприютным скитальцем, и первый же встречный убьёт меня.
15Но Вечный сказал ему:
– Нет, если кто убьёт Каина, тот примет за это семикратное возмездие.
И Вечный сделал Каину метку, чтобы никто, встретившись с ним, не убил его.
16Каин ушёл от Вечного и жил в земле Нод («скитание»), к востоку от Эдема.
Потомки Каина
17Каин познал свою жену, и она забеременела и родила Еноха. В то время Каин строил город и назвал его по имени своего сына Еноха. 18У Еноха родился Ирад, у Ирада родился Мехиаил, у Мехиаила родился Метушаил, и у Метушаила родился Ламех.
19Ламех взял себе в жёны двух женщин: одну звали Ада, другую Цилла. 20Ада родила Иавала: он стал праотцем тех, кто живёт в шатрах и разводит скот. 21Его брата звали Иувал: он стал праотцем всех, кто играет на арфе и свирели. 22У Циллы тоже был сын, Тувал-Каин, который ковал все виды орудий из бронзы и железа4:22 Или: «который обучал всех, кто работал с бронзой и железом».. Сестрой Тувал-Каина была Наама.
23Ламех сказал своим жёнам:
– Ада и Цилла, послушайте меня,
жёны Ламеха, внимайте моим словам.
Я убил мужчину за то, что он ранил меня,
юношу – за то, что он ударил меня.
24Если за Каина отомстится в семь раз,
то за Ламеха в семьдесят семь раз.
Сиф и Енос
25Адам вновь познал жену свою, и она родила сына и назвала его Сиф («даровал»), говоря: «Аллах даровал мне другое дитя вместо Авеля, которого убил Каин».
26У Сифа тоже был сын, и он назвал его Енос. В то время люди начали призывать имя Вечного.

6And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. 9¶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? 13And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.4.13 My…: or, Mine iniquity is greater than that it may be forgiven 14Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. 15And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16¶ And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.4.17 Enoch: Heb. 19¶ And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. 21And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. 22And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.4.22 instructer: Heb. whetter

25¶ And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.4.25 Seth: Heb.
