1А Боаз тем временем направился к городским воротам4:1 Ворота города были центром всей общественной жизни, около них проходили и судебные разбирательства. и сел там. Когда родственник, о котором он говорил, проходил мимо, Боаз сказал:
– Сверни сюда, мой друг, и присядь.
Тот свернул и сел.
2Боаз взял десять человек из старейшин города и сказал им:
– Сядьте здесь. – И они сели.
3После этого он сказал тому родственнику:
– Наоми, которая вернулась из Моава, продаёт участок земли, что принадлежал нашему родичу Эли-Малику. 4Я подумал, что должен довести это до твоего сведения и предложить тебе купить его в присутствии тех, кто сидит здесь, и в присутствии старейшин моего народа. Но если ты не купишь, скажи мне, чтобы я знал. Ведь у тебя первоочередное право сделать это, а я – за тобой.
– Я выкуплю его, – сказал он.
5Тогда Боаз сказал:
– В тот день, когда купишь землю у Наоми, ты также должен будешь жениться на моавитянке Руфи, вдове покойного, чтобы, когда у вас родится сын, земля осталась за семьёй покойного.
6Но родственник сказал:
– В таком случае я не могу выкупить этот участок, потому что я подвергну опасности своё собственное имение. Выкупай лучше сам, а я не могу этого сделать.
7(В прежние времена в Исраиле, чтобы выкупить или передать права на собственность, один из участников сделки снимал свою сандалию и отдавал её другому. Такой в Исраиле был обычай узаконивать сделку.)
8Родственник сказал Боазу:
– Покупай сам. – И снял свою сандалию.
9Тогда Боаз объявил старейшинам и всему народу:
– Сегодня вы свидетели того, что я купил у Наоми всё, что принадлежало Эли-Малику, Килеону и Махлону. 10Ещё я приобрёл моавитянку Руфь, вдову Махлона, себе в жёны, чтобы сохранить землю за семьёй покойного, чтобы его имя не исчезло среди его родичей и не было забыто в стенах его родного города. Вы сегодня свидетели этого!
11Тогда старейшины и все, кто был у ворот, сказали:
– Мы свидетели. Пусть Вечный сделает плодовитой женщину, которая входит в твой дом, подобно Рахиле и Лии, которые вместе возвели дом Исраила4:11 См. Нач. 29:31–30:24; 35:16-20.. Приобретай богатство в Ефрафе и славься в Вифлееме. 12Пусть через потомство, которое Вечный даст тебе от этой молодой женщины, твой род уподобится роду Фареца, которого Фамарь родила Иуде4:12 История рождения Фареца могла быть здесь упомянута по трём причинам: 1) он появился на свет, как наследник умершего Ира, сына Иуды (см. Нач. 38); 2) Боаз был прямым потомком Фареца (см. 4:18-21); 3) потомки Фареца поселились в Вифлееме (см. 1 Лет. 2:5, 18-19, 50-54)..

13Так Боаз взял Руфь, и она стала его женой. Он лёг с ней, и Вечный дал ей зачать, и она родила сына.
14Женщины говорили Наоми:
– Хвала Вечному! Он не оставил тебя сегодня без наследника, который будет заботиться о тебе. Пусть мальчик прославится в Исраиле! 15Он обновит твою жизнь и обеспечит тебя в старости. Ведь его родила твоя сноха, которая любит тебя, и которая для тебя лучше семи сыновей.
16И Наоми взяла младенца, носила его в объятиях и нянчила его. 17Женщины, которые жили там, говорили:
– У Наоми родился сын.
Они назвали его Овид. Он стал отцом Есея, отца Давуда.
18И вот родословие Фареца:
Фарец был отцом Хецрона,
19Хецрон – отцом Рама,
Рам – отцом Аминадава,
20Аминадав – отцом Нахшона,
Нахшон – отцом Салмона,
21Салмон – отцом Боаза,
Боаз – отцом Овида,
22Овид – отцом Есея,
а Есей – отцом Давуда.
1Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down. 2And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down. 3And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech’s: 4And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.4.4 I thought…: Heb. I said, I will reveal in thine ear 5Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
6¶ And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it. 7Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel. 8Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.
9¶ And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, of the hand of Naomi. 10Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day. 11And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Beth-lehem:4.11 do thou…: or, get thee riches, or, power4.11 be famous: Heb. proclaim thy name 12And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

18¶ Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron, 19And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, 20And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,4.20 Salmon: or, Salmah 21And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed, 22And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
