Le sanctuaire de Mika
1Dans la région montagneuse d’Ephraïm17.1 Au nord de Jérusalem. vivait un homme nommé Mika. 2Il déclara à sa mère : Tu te souviens qu’on t’a volé onze cents pièces d’argent17.2 Il s’agit de sicles d’argent. et que tu as maudit le voleur en ma présence. Eh bien, c’est moi qui ai pris cet argent, il est chez moi.
– Que mon fils soit béni de l’Eternel ! lui dit sa mère.
3Il rendit les onze cents pièces d’argent à sa mère qui dit : Je consacre cet argent à l’Eternel en faveur de mon fils pour en faire une statue et une idole en métal fondu. Je vais donc te le rendre.
4Le fils remit l’argent à sa mère, qui en préleva deux cents pièces pour les donner à un orfèvre. Celui-ci en fit une statue et une idole en métal fondu, qu’on plaça dans la maison de Mika. 5Ayant donc chez lui un lieu de culte, il fit faire une autre statue et des idoles domestiques, puis il établit prêtre l’un de ses fils.
Le prêtre de Mika
6En ce temps-là, il n’y avait pas de roi en Israël. Chacun faisait ce qu’il jugeait bon. 7Or, il y avait là un jeune lévite, originaire de Bethléhem en Juda, qui appartient à la tribu de Juda. Il résidait là17.7 Le verbe indique que le lévite y demeurait en étranger.. 8Il avait quitté Bethléhem pour aller s’établir là où il trouverait un domicile. En cours de route, il était arrivé dans la région montagneuse d’Ephraïm et jusqu’à la maison de Mika.
9– D’où viens-tu ? lui demanda celui-ci.
– Je suis un lévite, répondit-il, de Bethléhem en Juda. Je suis en route pour m’établir là où je trouverai un endroit.
10– Eh bien, lui dit Mika, reste donc chez moi. Tu me serviras de « père17.10 Terme de respect. » et de prêtre, et je te donnerai dix pièces d’argent par an, en plus du vêtement et de la nourriture.
Le lévite entra à son service. 11Il accepta de rester chez cet homme qui le traita comme l’un de ses fils. 12Mika établit le lévite dans sa charge, et le jeune homme devint donc son prêtre. Il logea dans sa propre maison. 13Mika dit : Maintenant, je suis certain que l’Eternel me fera du bien, puisque j’ai pu avoir un lévite pour prêtre.
Micah’s Idols
1Now a man named Micah from the hill country of Ephraim 2said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels17:2 That is, about 28 pounds or about 13 kilograms of silver that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse—I have that silver with me; I took it.”
Then his mother said, “The Lord bless you, my son!”
3When he returned the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, she said, “I solemnly consecrate my silver to the Lord for my son to make an image overlaid with silver. I will give it back to you.”
4So after he returned the silver to his mother, she took two hundred shekels17:4 That is, about 5 pounds or about 2.3 kilograms of silver and gave them to a silversmith, who used them to make the idol. And it was put in Micah’s house.
5Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some household gods and installed one of his sons as his priest. 6In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.
7A young Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, who had been living within the clan of Judah, 8left that town in search of some other place to stay. On his way17:8 Or To carry on his profession he came to Micah’s house in the hill country of Ephraim.
9Micah asked him, “Where are you from?”
“I’m a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah,” he said, “and I’m looking for a place to stay.”
10Then Micah said to him, “Live with me and be my father and priest, and I’ll give you ten shekels17:10 That is, about 4 ounces or about 115 grams of silver a year, your clothes and your food.” 11So the Levite agreed to live with him, and the young man became like one of his sons to him. 12Then Micah installed the Levite, and the young man became his priest and lived in his house. 13And Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will be good to me, since this Levite has become my priest.”
