Le territoire de la tribu de Juda
1Le territoire que le tirage au sort attribua aux familles de la tribu de Juda s’étendait au sud jusqu’à la frontière d’Edom dans le désert de Tsîn vers le Néguev à l’extrême sud. 2Leur frontière méridionale partait de la baie qui se trouve à la pointe de la mer Morte, face au Néguev, 3et passait au sud de la montée des Scorpions pour aller en direction de Tsîn, passer au sud de Qadesh-Barnéa, et remonter par Hetsrôn vers Addar, d’où elle tournait en direction de Qarqaa. 4De là, elle passait par Atsmôn et débouchait au torrent d’Egypte pour aboutir à la mer Méditerranée. Telle est votre frontière méridionale.
5A l’est, la frontière était constituée par la mer Morte jusqu’à l’embouchure du Jourdain. Au nord, elle partait de la baie qui est à l’embouchure du Jourdain 6et remontait vers Beth-Hogla pour passer au nord de Beth-Araba jusqu’à la pierre dite de Bohân, l’un des fils de Ruben. 7La frontière montait ensuite vers Debir, depuis la vallée d’Akor, puis se dirigeait au nord vers Guilgal15.7 Un Débir différent de celui de Jos 10.38-39 et un Guilgal à ne pas confondre avec celui de 4.19-20 près de Jéricho., en face de la montée d’Adoummim du côté sud du torrent. Puis elle passait près des sources d’Eyn-Shémesh et débouchait sur Eyn-Roguel. 8Alors elle remontait par la vallée de Ben-Hinnom sur le flanc sud de la montagne des Yebousiens où se trouve Jérusalem, pour s’élever vers le sommet situé en face à l’ouest de la vallée de Hinnom, et à l’extrémité nord de la plaine des Rephaïm. 9De ce sommet, elle s’incurvait vers la source de Nephtoah et se dirigeait vers les villes de la montagne d’Ephrôn avant de tourner en direction de Baala, c’est-à-dire Qiryath-Yearim. 10De là, elle tournait du côté ouest vers le mont Séir et longeait le versant nord de la montagne des Forêts – ou mont Kesalôn – pour redescendre à Beth-Shémesh et passer à Timna. 11De là, elle gagnait le versant nord d’Eqrôn, et s’incurvait vers Shikrôn, passait par le mont Baala puis à Yabnéel, pour déboucher sur la mer Méditerranée. 12La mer Méditerranée constituait la frontière ouest du territoire attribué aux familles de la tribu de Juda.
Caleb conquiert son domaine
13Caleb, fils de Yephounné, reçut une part du territoire de Juda, comme l’Eternel l’avait ordonné à Josué. On lui donna Hébron qui s’appelait Qiryath-Arba, du nom d’Arba, l’ancêtre d’Anaq15.13 Pour les v. 13-19, voir Jg 1.10-15.. 14Caleb en déposséda les trois descendants d’Anaq : Shéshaï, Ahimân et Talmaï. 15De là, il partit attaquer les habitants de Debir – qui s’appelait autrefois Qiryath-Sépher.
16Caleb promit sa fille Aksa en mariage à celui qui battrait et prendrait Qiryath-Sépher. 17Son neveu Otniel, fils de son frère Qenaz, s’en rendit maître, et Caleb lui donna sa fille Aksa en mariage. 18Lorsqu’elle fut arrivée auprès de son mari, elle l’engagea à demander un certain champ à son père Caleb. Puis elle sauta de son âne, et Caleb lui demanda : Quel est ton désir ?
19Elle lui répondit : Accorde-moi un cadeau. Puisque tu m’as établie dans une terre aride, donne-moi aussi des points d’eau !
Et Caleb lui donna les sources supérieures et les sources inférieures. 20Tel est le patrimoine de la tribu de Juda pour ses familles.
Les villes de Juda
21Voici quelles étaient les villes situées dans la partie méridionale du territoire de Juda, près de la frontière d’Edom, dans le Néguev ; Qabtséel, Eder, Yagour, 22Kina, Dimôna, Adada, 23Qédesh, Hatsor, Itân, 24Ziph, Télem, Bealoth, 25Hatsor-Hadatta, Qeriyoth-Hetsrôn, appelée aussi Hatsor, 26Amam, Shema, Molada, 27Hatsar-Gadda, Heshmôn, Beth-Paleth, 28Hatsar-Shoual, Beer-Sheva, Bizyotya15.28 Au lieu de Bizyotya, l’ancienne version grecque et Né 11.27 ont : et les localités voisines., 29Baala, Iyim, Atsem, 30Eltolad, Kesil, Horma, 31Tsiqlag, Madmanna, Sansanna, 32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Aïn et Rimmôn : soit en tout : vingt-neuf villes et les villages qui en dépendent.
33Dans le Bas-Pays se trouvaient les villes suivantes15.33 Cette région de la plaine côtière située entre la Judée montagneuse et la Philistie ne sera en grande partie occupée par Israël qu’après la victoire de David. : Eshtaol, Tsorea, Ashna, 34Zanoah, Eyn-Gannim, Tappouah, Enam, 35Yarmouth, Adoullam, Soko, Azéqa, 36Shaaraïm, Aditaïm, Guedéra et Guedérotaïm : soit quatorze villes avec les villages qui en dépendent. 37Tsenân, Hadasha, Migdal-Gad, 38Dileân, Mitspé, Yoqtéel, 39Lakish, Botsqath, Eglôn, 40Kabbôn, Lahmas, Kitlish, 41Guedéroth, Beth-Dagôn, Naama et Maqqéda, soit seize villes avec les villages qui en dépendent. 42Libna, Eter, Ashân ; 43Yiphtah, Ashna, Netsib, 44Qeïla, Akzib et Marésha : soit neuf villes et les villages qui en dépendent. 45Il y avait aussi Eqrôn avec les villes qui en dépendaient et ses villages. 46Toutes les villes et tous les villages aux alentours d’Ashdod, situés entre Eqrôn et la mer, 47Ashdod et Gaza avec les villes qui en dépendaient et leurs villages jusqu’au torrent d’Egypte et jusqu’à la côte de la Méditerranée.
48Dans la région montagneuse15.48 La région montagneuse au sud de Jérusalem., il y avait les villes de Shamir, Yattir, Soko, 49Danna, Qiryath-Sanna appelée aussi Debir, 50Anab, Eshtemo, Anim, 51Goshen, Holôn et Guilo : soit onze villes avec les villages qui en dépendent. 52Il y avait de plus : Arab, Douma, Esheân, 53Yanoum, Beth-Tappouah, Aphéqa, 54Houmeta, Qiryath-Arba, c’est-à-dire Hébron, et Tsior : soit neuf villes et les villages qui en dépendent, 55Maôn, Karmel, Ziph, Youtta, 56Jizréel, Yoqdeam, Zanoah, 57Qaïn, Guibéa et Timna : dix villes et les villages qui en dépendent. 58Halhoul, Beth-Tsour, Guedor, 59Maarath, Beth-Anoth et Elteqôn : six villes et les villages qui en dépendent. 60Qiryath-Baal, appelée aussi Qiryath-Yearim, et Rabba : deux villes et les villages qui en dépendent. 61Dans le désert15.61 La région calcaire et stérile, à l’est et au sud de Jérusalem, qui borde la mer Morte. étaient situées les villes de Beth-Araba, Middin, Sekaka, 62Nibshân, Ir-Hammélah et Eyn-Guédi : six villes et les villages qui en dépendent.
63Les descendants de Juda ne réussirent pas à déposséder les Yebousiens qui habitaient à Jérusalem, de sorte qu’ils y vivent encore aujourd’hui avec les gens de Juda.
1This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast. 2And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:15.2 bay: Heb. tongue 3And it went out to the south side to Maaleh-acrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadesh-barnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:15.3 Maaleh-acrabbim: or, the going up to Acrabbim 4From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast. 5And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan: 6And the border went up to Beth-hogla, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben: 7And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel: 8And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward: 9And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjath-jearim: 10And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed on to Timnah: 11And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea. 12And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.
13¶ And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.15.13 the city…: or, Kirjath-arba 14And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.
16¶ And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. 17And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. 18And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou? 19Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

63¶ As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
