L’annonce de choses nouvelles
1Ecoutez bien ceci, ╵ô communauté de Jacob,
vous qui vous réclamez ╵de ce nom d’Israël
et qui êtes issus ╵des sources de Juda,
vous qui prêtez serment ╵au nom de l’Eternel
et qui avez ╵le Dieu d’Israël à la bouche,
mais sans sincérité ╵et sans droiture !
2Car vous vous dénommez : ╵« Ceux de la ville sainte » !
Et vous vous appuyez ╵sur le Dieu d’Israël,
sur celui qui s’appelle ╵le Seigneur des armées célestes !
3J’ai annoncé depuis longtemps ╵les événements du passé,
j’en ai parlé,
je les ai fait entendre,
puis, soudain, j’ai agi, ╵et cela s’est produit.
4Parce que je savais ╵que tu es obstiné,
que ton cou est semblable ╵à un tendon de fer,
et que tu as un front de bronze,
5je t’ai annoncé ces événements ╵bien longtemps à l’avance,
je t’en ai informé ╵avant qu’ils se produisent,
pour que tu ne puisses pas dire :
« C’est mon idole qui a fait ╵toutes ces choses,
c’est ma statue de bois, ╵mon image en métal fondu,
qui en a donné l’ordre ! »
6Tu as bien entendu, ╵considère bien tout cela.
N’allez-vous pas ╵l’annoncer vous aussi ?
Maintenant je t’annonce des choses nouvelles, ╵des choses tenues en réserve,
que tu ne connais pas.
7Elles sont créées maintenant
et non depuis longtemps ;
jusqu’à ce jour, ╵tu n’en avais pas entendu parler
pour que tu ne puisses pas dire :
« Je le savais déjà ! »
8Non, tu n’en savais rien,
tu ne l’avais pas entendu ;
jamais auparavant, ╵ce n’était parvenu ╵à tes oreilles.
Car je te connaissais, ╵et je te savais traître.
Oui, tu t’appelles : ╵« Révolté de naissance48.8 Voir 43.27 et note. ! »
9Par égard pour ma renommée,
je retiens ma colère ;
et pour que la louange ╵retentisse pour moi,
je me réfrène,
pour ne pas te détruire.
10Je t’ai fait fondre,
mais non pour en retirer de l’argent.
Oui, je t’ai éprouvé ╵dans le creuset de l’affliction.
11C’est par égard pour moi,
uniquement pour moi, ╵que j’agirai ainsi.
Comment me laisserais-je ╵déshonorer ?
Je ne donnerai pas ╵ma gloire à quelqu’un d’autre.
12Ecoute-moi, Jacob,
Israël, que j’appelle !
Voilà ce que je suis : ╵moi, je suis le premier
et je suis aussi le dernier48.12 Voir 44.6 ; Ap 1.17 ; 22.13..
13C’est de mes propres mains ╵que j’ai fondé la terre
et déployé le ciel.
Dès que je les appelle,
ensemble, ils se présentent.
14Vous tous, rassemblez-vous ╵et écoutez-moi bien !
Qui donc parmi les autres dieux ╵a annoncé ces choses ?
Cet homme que l’Eternel48.14 Probablement Cyrus. aime
accomplira ce qu’il désire ╵à l’encontre de Babylone,
son bras se lèvera ╵contre les Chaldéens.
15C’est moi, c’est moi qui ai parlé,
moi qui l’ai appelé
et qui l’ai fait venir.
Je ferai réussir ╵ses entreprises.
16Approchez-vous de moi, ╵écoutez bien ceci :
Dès le commencement ╵je n’ai jamais parlé ╵dans le secret.
Quand les événements ╵se sont produits, ╵j’étais présent.
Et maintenant ╵le Seigneur, l’Eternel,
m’a envoyé ╵et son Esprit est avec moi.
Ce que Dieu désire
17Ainsi dit l’Eternel, ╵celui qui te délivre
et le Saint d’Israël :
Moi, je suis l’Eternel, ton Dieu,
et je t’instruis pour ton profit,
je te fais cheminer ╵dans la voie où tu marches.
18Si toi, tu avais tenu compte ╵de mes commandements,
ta paix coulerait comme un fleuve
et la justice qui te serait faite ╵déferlerait comme les vagues de la mer.
19Lors ta postérité ╵serait pareille au sable,
ta descendance ╵serait aussi nombreuse ╵que les grains de sable des plages,
ton nom ne sombrerait pas dans l’oubli,
jamais tu ne disparaîtrais ╵de devant moi.
La sortie de Babylone

Fuyez les Chaldéens !
Avec des cris de joie,
publiez la nouvelle ! ╵Proclamez-la,
répandez-la au loin, ╵jusqu’au bout de la terre !
Dites que l’Eternel a délivré ╵son serviteur Jacob.
21Quand il les a conduits ╵à travers le désert,
ils n’ont pas souffert de la soif
car il a fait couler ╵pour eux l’eau du rocher ;
il a fendu le roc,
et les eaux ont jailli.
22Mais, a dit l’Eternel, ╵il n’y a pas de paix
pour les méchants48.22 Voir 57.21. !
1Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. 2For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name. 3I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass. 4Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;48.4 obstinate: Heb. hard 5I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them. 6Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them. 7They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them. 8Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
9¶ For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. 10Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.48.10 with…: or, for silver 11For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
12¶ Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last. 13Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.48.13 my…: or, the palm of my right hand hath spread out 14All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. 15I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
16¶ Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. 17Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. 18O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: 19Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
20¶ Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The LORD hath redeemed his servant Jacob. 21And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out. 22There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
