Signe prophétique contre l’Egypte
1L’année où le généralissime envoyé par Sargon20.1 Sargon: roi d’Assyrie de 722 à 705 av. J.-C. C’est lui qui s’empara de Samarie et qui en déporta les habitants (2 R 17.6). Il s’est emparé d’Ashdod en 711 av. J.-C., roi d’Assyrie, vint attaquer Ashdod20.1 Ashdod: l’une des cinq villes principales de la Philistie (Jos 11.22 ; 15.46 ; 1 S 5.1)., et s’en empara, 2l’Eternel parla par l’intermédiaire d’Esaïe, fils d’Amots. Il dit : Va, détache l’habit de toile de sac qui couvre tes reins et retire tes sandales.
Le prophète obéit et se promena nu et déchaussé. 3L’Eternel dit alors : Mon serviteur Esaïe a marché nu et déchaussé pendant trois ans pour servir de signe et de présage au sujet de l’Egypte et de l’Ethiopie. 4Ainsi le roi d’Assyrie emmènera en déportation des captifs égyptiens et éthiopiens, des jeunes et des vieillards, nus et déchaussés et les reins découverts, à la honte de l’Egypte. 5Et tous ceux qui avaient mis leur confiance en l’Ethiopie et se faisaient une fierté de l’Egypte, seront terrifiés et couverts de honte. 6Les habitants de ces régions du littoral diront en ce jour-là : « Voilà à quoi en sont réduits ceux auprès de qui nous espérions nous réfugier pour trouver de l’aide et du secours contre le roi d’Assyrie. Et nous, maintenant, comment échapperons-nous ? »
A Prophecy Against Egypt and Cush
1In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it— 2at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.
3Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,20:3 That is, the upper Nile region; also in verse 5 4so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame. 5Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame. 6In that day the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’ ”
