David témoigne sa faveur au fils de Jonathan
1David demanda : Reste-t-il encore un survivant de la famille de Saül ? J’aimerais lui témoigner ma faveur par amitié pour Jonathan9.1 Voir 1 S 20.15-17..
2Or, il y avait un ancien serviteur de la maison de Saül nommé Tsiba. On le fit venir auprès de David. Le roi lui demanda : Es-tu bien Tsiba ?
Il répondit : C’est moi, ton serviteur !
3Puis le roi lui posa la question : Reste-t-il encore quelqu’un de la famille de Saül ? Je voudrais lui témoigner ma faveur comme je l’ai promis devant Dieu.
Tsiba lui répondit : Il existe encore un fils de Jonathan qui a les deux jambes estropiées9.3 Voir 2 S 4.4..
4– Où vit-il ? lui demanda le roi.
Tsiba répondit : Dans la maison de Makir, un fils d’Ammiel à Lo-Debar9.4 Un riche bienfaiteur de Mephibosheth qui viendra rejoindre David (17.27). Lo-Debar est situé dans le territoire de Galaad, à l’est du Jourdain (Jos 13.25-26)..
5Le roi David l’envoya donc chercher à Lo-Debar dans la maison de Makir.
6Lorsque Mephibosheth, fils de Jonathan et petit-fils de Saül, fut arrivé chez David, il s’inclina face contre terre et se prosterna devant lui. David l’appela : Mephibosheth !
– C’est bien moi, pour te servir.
7Et David lui dit : N’aie aucune crainte ; car je t’assure que je veux te traiter avec faveur par amitié pour ton père Jonathan. De plus, je te rendrai toutes les terres qui appartenaient à ton grand-père Saül. Quant à toi, tu prendras tous tes repas à ma table.
8Mephibosheth se prosterna de nouveau et dit : Qu’est donc ton serviteur pour que tu t’intéresses à lui ? Je ne vaux pas plus qu’un chien mort.
9Le roi appela Tsiba, le domestique de Saül, et lui dit : Tout ce qui appartenait à Saül et à toute sa famille, je le donne au petit-fils de ton maître. 10Toi, tes fils et tes serviteurs, vous cultiverez ses terres pour lui et tu apporteras ce que vous récolterez pour assurer l’entretien du fils de ton maître. Quant à Mephibosheth, le fils de ton maître, c’est à ma table qu’il prendra tous les jours ses repas.
Or Tsiba avait quinze fils et vingt serviteurs. 11Il dit au roi : Ton serviteur fera tout ce que le roi mon seigneur lui a ordonné.
Ainsi Mephibosheth mangea à la table royale comme s’il était l’un des fils du roi. 12Mephibosheth avait un jeune fils nommé Mika. Tous ceux qui demeuraient chez Tsiba étaient à son service. 13Comme il était estropié des deux pieds, il résidait à Jérusalem pour pouvoir aller tous les jours manger à la table du roi.
1And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? 2And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he. 3And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet. 4And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.
5¶ Then king David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. 6Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!9.6 Mephibosheth: also called Merib-baal
7¶ And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 8And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
9¶ Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house. 10Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons. 12And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth. 13So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.
