Les ministres de Salomon
1Le roi Salomon régnait sur tout Israël4.1 C’est-à-dire sur l’ensemble des douze tribus qui se sépareront après sa mort.. 2Voici les ministres qui l’assistaient : Azaria, petit-fils du prêtre Tsadoq4.2 Il était fils d’Ahimaats, un fils de Tsadoq (voir 2 S 15.27, 36 et 1 Ch 5.34). Sans doute Ahimaats était-il mort. Azaria restera grand-prêtre durant tout le règne de Salomon. Il présidera la dédicace du Temple., 3Elihoreph et Ahiya, fils de Shisha, étaient ses secrétaires ; Josaphat, fils d’Ahiloud, était archiviste4.3 La charge précise de cet archiviste ne nous est pas connue, mais elle dut être importante car on la retrouve durant toute l’histoire de la monarchie (2 R 18.18, 37 ; 2 Ch 34.8 ; Es 36.3, 11, 22). L’archiviste dut, entre autres, jouer le rôle d’historiographe, rédacteur des chroniques, chargé de consigner les événements importants du règne.. 4Benaya, fils de Yehoyada, était le général en chef de l’armée, Tsadoq et Abiatar étaient prêtres ; 5Azaria, fils de Nathan, était chef des gouverneurs ; Zaboud, fils de Nathan, était prêtre et conseiller personnel du roi ; 6Ahishar était l’intendant du palais royal et Adoniram, fils d’Abda, était préposé à la surveillance des corvées.
Les douze provinces et leurs gouverneurs
7Salomon nomma douze gouverneurs sur tout Israël. Ils étaient chargés de pourvoir à l’entretien du roi et de tout le personnel de son palais. Chacun d’eux assurait le ravitaillement un mois par an. 8Voici leurs noms : Ben-Hour exerçait sa fonction dans la région montagneuse d’Ephraïm4.8 Partie centrale du pays, l’une des plus cultivées du pays d’Israël..
9Ben-Déqer dans la région de Maqats, à Shaalbim, à Beth-Shémesh, à Elôn et à Beth-Hanân.
10Ben-Hésed à Aroubboth dont relevaient aussi Soko et tout le pays de Hépher.
11Ben-Abinadab dans toute la contrée de Dor. Il avait épousé Taphath, une fille de Salomon.
12Baana, fils d’Ahiloud, gouvernait Taanak et Meguiddo4.12 Taanak et Meguiddo se trouvaient près du mont Carmel. Le district englobait la riche plaine de Jizréel. et toute la région de Beth-Sheân qui est près de Tsartân au-dessous de Jizréel, depuis Beth-Sheân jusqu’à Abel-Mehola et jusqu’au-delà de Yoqmeam.
13Ben-Guéber résidait à Ramoth en Galaad ; il était responsable de la région des villages de Yaïr, fils de Manassé, en Galaad, et de la contrée d’Argob en Basan qui comprenait soixante grandes villes fortifiées, munies de remparts et fermées par des barres de bronze.
14Ahinadab, fils d’Iddo, supervisait la région de Mahanaïm.
15Ahimaats, celle de Nephtali. Lui aussi avait épousé une fille de Salomon nommée Basmath.
16Baana, fils de Houshaï, était responsable en Aser et à Bealoth ; 17Josaphat, fils de Parouah, en Issacar ; 18Shimeï, fils d’Ela, en Benjamin ; 19Guéber, fils d’Ouri, dans la province de Galaad ; il gouvernait la contrée qui avait appartenu à Sihôn, roi des Amoréens, et à Og, roi du Basan4.19 Voir Nb 21.21-35. Leur territoire à l’est du Jourdain fut partagé entre les tribus de Ruben, de Gad et la demi-tribu de Manassé (Jos 12.1-6 ; 13.15-29).. Il y avait, de plus, un gouverneur qui supervisait tout le pays4.19 Autre traduction : il n’y avait qu’un gouverneur pour toute cette région..
20La population de Juda et d’Israël était alors aussi nombreuse que les grains de sable au bord de la mer. Ils avaient à manger et à boire et ils étaient dans la joie.

20¶ Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry. 21And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.
22¶ And Solomon’s provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,4.22 provision: Heb. bread4.22 measures: Heb. cors 23Ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallowdeer, and fatted fowl. 24For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him. 25And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon.4.25 safely: Heb. confidently
26¶ And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. 27And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon’s table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing. 28Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.4.28 dromedaries: or, mules, or, swift beasts
29¶ And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 30And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. 32And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. 33And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. 34And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
