Instrucciones a Timoteo
1El Espíritu dice claramente que, en los últimos tiempos, algunos abandonarán la fe para seguir a inspiraciones engañosas y doctrinas diabólicas. 2Tales enseñanzas provienen de embusteros hipócritas, que tienen la conciencia endurecida.4:2 endurecida. Lit. cauterizada. 3Prohíben el matrimonio y no permiten comer ciertos alimentos que Dios ha creado para que los creyentes,4:3 creyentes. Alt. fieles. conocedores de la verdad, los coman con acción de gracias. 4Porque todo lo que Dios ha creado es bueno y nada es despreciable si se recibe con acción de gracias, 5pues la palabra de Dios y la oración lo santifican.
6Si enseñas estas cosas a los hermanos, serás un buen servidor de Cristo Jesús, nutrido con las verdades de la fe y de la buena enseñanza que paso a paso has seguido. 7Rechaza las leyendas profanas y otros mitos semejantes.4:7 Rechaza … semejantes. Más bien ejercítate en la devoción 8pues, aunque el ejercicio físico trae algún provecho, la devoción es útil para todo, ya que incluye una promesa no solo para la vida presente, sino también para la venidera. 9Este mensaje es digno de crédito y merece ser aceptado por todos. 10En efecto, si trabajamos y nos esforzamos es porque hemos puesto nuestra esperanza en el Dios viviente, que es el Salvador de todos, especialmente de los que creen.
11Encarga y enseña estas cosas. 12Que nadie te menosprecie por ser joven. Al contrario, que los creyentes vean en ti un ejemplo a seguir en la manera de hablar, en la conducta, en amor, fe y pureza. 13En tanto que llego, dedícate a la lectura pública de las Escrituras, y a enseñar y animar a los hermanos. 14No descuides el don que recibiste mediante profecía, cuando los líderes de la iglesia te impusieron las manos.
15Sé diligente en estos asuntos; entrégate de lleno a ellos, de modo que todos puedan ver que estás progresando. 16Ten cuidado de tu conducta y de tu enseñanza. Persevera en todo ello, porque así te salvarás a ti mismo y a los que te escuchen.
1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters,4:6 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family. you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 9This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. 10That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.
11Command and teach these things. 12Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
