Mamatay ang Nagapakasala
1Miingon ang Ginoo kanako, 2“Unsay inyong buot ipasabot sa pagsulti niini nga panultihon sa Israel, ‘Mikaon ang mga amahan ug aslom nga ubas, ug ang mga anak ang gingilohan?’
3“Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios nga buhi, nanumpa nga dili na ninyo kini isulti nga panultihon sa Israel. 4Pamatia ninyo kini! Ang tanan nga kinabuhi ako—ang kinabuhi sa ginikanan ug ang kinabuhi sa mga kabataan. Ang tawo ra nga nakasala mao ang mamatay. 5Pananglit may usa ka tawo nga matarong ug nagahimo sa mga butang nga husto ug subay sa balaod. 6Wala siya magsimba sa mga dios-dios sa Israel ni mokaon sa mga halad nga alang niini nga mga dios-dios didto sa mga simbahanan sa mga bukid. Wala siya makigdulog sa asawa sa uban o sa babaye nga giregla. 7Wala siya mangdaog-daog, ug ginauli niya ang gigarantiya sa mga nakautang kaniya. Wala siya mangawat, hinuon gipakaon niya ang mga gigutom ug gihatagan ug bisti ang mga walay bisti. 8Wala siya magpatubo kon magpautang. Wala siya nagahimog daotan, ug wala siyay gipaboran sa iyang paghukom. 9Nagasunod siya pag-ayo sa akong mga tulumanon ug mga sugo. Matarong kana nga tawhana ug padayon siyang mabuhi. Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, ang nagaingon niini.
10“Apan pananglit may anak siyang lalaki nga bangis ug kriminal o ginahimo niya kini nga mga buhat 11nga wala buhata sa iyang amahan: Mokaon siya sa mga halad nga alang sa mga dios-dios didto sa mga simbahanan sa mga bukid, ug makighilawas siya sa asawa sa uban. 12Ginadaog-daog niya ang mga kabos ug timawa. Kawatan siya, ug dili niya iuli ang garantiya sa mga nakautang kaniya. Nagasimba siya sa mga dios-dios, ug nagahimog daotan. 13Nagapautang siya nga may tubo. Mabuhi kaha siya? Dili! Mamatay gyud kini nga tawhana tungod niini nga tanang mangil-ad nga mga butang nga iyang gihimo. Siya ra ang hinungdan sa iyang kamatayon.
14“Apan pananglit kini nga tawo nga daotan may anak nga lalaki ug nakita niya ang tanang sala nga gihimo sa iyang amahan, apan wala niya kini sunda. 15Wala siya magsimba sa mga dios-dios sa Israel o mokaon sa mga halad nga alang niini nga mga dios-dios didto sa mga simbahanan sa mga bukid. Wala siya makighilawas sa asawa sa uban. 16Wala siya mangdaog-daog, ug wala siya mangayo ug garantiya gikan sa mga nangutang kaniya. Wala siya mangawat, ginapakaon hinuon niya ang mga gigutom ug gihatagan ug bisti ang mga walay bisti. 17Wala siya maghimog daotan, ug wala siya magpatubo kon magpautang siya. Ginatuman niya ang akong mga sugo ug mga tulumanon. Kini nga tawhana dili mamatay tungod sa sala sa iyang amahan kondili padayon siyang mabuhi. 18Apan ang iyang amahan mamatay tungod sa iyang sala kay nanghukhok siya, nangawat, ug naghimog daotan ngadto sa iyang mga katawhan.
19“Apan basig mangutana kamo, ‘Nganong dili man angay nga silotan ang anak tungod sa sala sa iyang amahan?’ Kon ang anak nagbuhat sa matarong ug husto, ug ginasunod niya pag-ayo ang akong mga tulumanon, padayon siyang mabuhi. 20Ang tawo lang nga nakasala mao ang mamatay. Ang anak dili angay nga silotan tungod sa sala sa iyang amahan, sama nga ang amahan dili angay nga silotan tungod sa sala sa iyang anak. Ang tawo nga matarong pagabalosan sa iyang matarong nga mga ginahimo, ug ang tawo nga daotan pagasilotan sa iyang daotan nga mga ginahimo.
21“Apan kon ang tawo nga daotan maghinulsol sa tanang mga sala nga iyang nahimo ug motuman sa akong mga pagtulon-an ug himuon niya kon unsa ang matarong ug husto, dili siya mamatay kondili mabuhi gyud siya. 22Dili na siya paninglon sa tanang mga sala nga iyang nahimo. Tungod sa iyang gipangbuhat nga matarong, padayon siyang mabuhi. 23Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, dili malipay kon mamatay ang usa ka daotan nga tawo. Malipay ako kon maghinulsol siya ug padayong mabuhi.
24“Apan kon ang usa ka tawo nga matarong mobiya sa iyang matarong nga pagkinabuhi ug magpakasala, ug magbuhat sa mangil-ad nga mga butang nga ginahimo sa mga tawo nga daotan, padayon ba siyang mabuhi? Dili! Kalimtan ang tanan niya nga binuhatan nga matarong. Ug tungod sa iyang pagluib kanako ug sa mga sala nga iyang nahimo, mamatay siya.
25“Apan moingon kamo, ‘Dili matarong ang pamaagi sa Ginoo.’ Pamati kamo, katawhan sa Israel: Ang ako bang pamaagi ang dili matarong o ang inyo? 26Kon ang usa ka tawo nga matarong mobiya sa matarong nga pagkinabuhi ug magpakasala, mamatay siya tungod sa iyang mga sala. 27Apan kon ang daotan nga tawo mobiya sa iyang daotan nga pagkinabuhi ug maghimog matarong ug husto, maluwas niya ang iyang kinabuhi. 28Dili siya mamatay tungod kay gitalikdan niya ang tanan niya nga sala. 29Apan moingon kamo nga katawhan sa Israel, ‘Dili matarong ang pamaagi sa Ginoo.’ O katawhan sa Israel, ang ako ba nga mga pamaagi ang dili matarong o ang inyo?
30“Busa ingnon ko kamo, O katawhan sa Israel, ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, magahukom sa matag usa kaninyo sumala sa inyong binuhatan. Karon, paghinulsol kamo ug talikdi na ang tanan ninyong mga sala aron dili kamo malaglag. 31Nganong gusto man ninyong mamatay, O katawhan sa Israel? Undangi na ninyo ang inyong pagpakasala ug bag-oha na ang inyong pagkinabuhi. 32Kay dili ako malipay kon adunay mamatay. Busa paghinulsol na kamo aron padayon kamo nga mabuhi. Ako, ang Ginoo nga Dios, ang nagaingon niini.”
1The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying, 2What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge? 3As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. 4Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
5¶ But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,18.5 that…: Heb. judgment and justice 6And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman, 7And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; 8He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man, 9Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.
10¶ If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,18.10 robber: or, breaker up of an house18.10 that doeth…: or, that doeth to his brother besides any of these 11And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife, 12Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination, 13Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.18.13 blood: Heb. bloods
14¶ Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like, 15That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife, 16Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,18.16 hath not…: Heb. hath not pledged the pledge, or, taken to pledge 17That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. 18As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.
19¶ Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. 20The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
21But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. 23Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
24¶ But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
25¶ Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 29Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
30Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.18.30 yourselves: or, others
31¶ Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.18.32 yourselves: or, others
