Ang Ikaduha nga Damgo ni Nebucadnezar bahin sa Kahoy
1Nagpadala si Haring Nebucadnezar niining mosunod nga pahibalo ngadto sa tanang katawhan sa nagkalain-laing nasod, tribo, ug pinulongan sa kalibotan. Mao kini ang nahisulat:
“Hinaut nga magmauswagon pa gayod kamo.
2“Gikalipay ko ang pagsugilon kaninyo sa mga milagro ug katingalahang mga butang nga gihimo kanako sa Labing Halangdong Dios.
3Katingalahan gayod ug labihan kagamhanan ang iyang mga milagro!
Ang iyang paghari walay kataposan.
4“Maayo ang akong kahimtang dinhi sa palasyo, ug mauswagon ang akong kinabuhi. 5Apan may damgo ako ug mga panan-awon nga nakapahadlok ug nakapahasol kanako. 6Busa nimando ako nga dad-on dinhi kanako ang tanang mga maalamon sa Babylon aron hubaron nila ang kahulogan sa akong damgo. 7Pag-abot sa mga madyikero, espiritista, manalagna,4:7 manalagna: sa literal, Kaldeanhon. ug tighimalad, gisuginlan ko sila sa akong damgo, apan dili sila makahubad sa kahulogan niini.
8“Sa kaulahian, mianhi si Daniel kanako. (Ginganlan siyag Belteshazar nga mao ang ngalan sa akong dios. Ug anaa kaniya ang espiritu sa balaan nga mga dios.4:8 mga dios: o, dios: mahimo usab nga, Dios.) Gisuginlan ko siya sa akong damgo. 9Miingon ako, ‘Belteshazar, pangulo sa mga madyikero, nasayod ako nga ang espiritu sa mga dios anaa kanimo, ug sayon ra kanimo ang paghubad sa kahulogan sa mga tinago. Isaysay kanako kon unsa ang kahulogan sa mga panan-awon nga akong nakita sa akong damgo. 10Mao kini ang akong mga panan-awon samtang natulog ako: Nakita ko ang usa ka taas kaayo nga kahoy sa taliwala sa kalibotan. 11Mitaas ug milig-on pa gayod kini hangtod nga miabot ang tumoy niini sa langit ug makita na kini sa tanang bahin sa kalibotan. 12Matahom ang iyang mga dahon ug daghan ang iyang mga bunga nga igo makapakaon sa tanan. Mipasilong ang mga mananap sa landong niini ug nagsalag ang mga langgam sa iyang mga sanga. Didto mikuha ang tanang mga binuhat sa ilang pagkaon.’
13“Unya nakita ko usab ang usa ka anghel4:13 anghel: sa literal, balaan nga magbalantay. nga nanaog gikan sa langit. 14Misinggit siya, ‘Putla ninyo ang kahoy ug ang mga sanga niini. Kuhaa ang iyang mga dahon ug ilabay ang iyang mga bunga. Aboga usab ninyo ang mga mananap nga nagapasilong niini ug ang mga langgam nga nagasalag sa iyang mga sanga. 15Apan ibilin lang ang iyang tuod ug gamot nga hiniktan ug puthaw ug bronsi, taliwala sa mga sagbot diha sa yuta.’
“Pasagdi kini nga mabasa sa yamog uban sa mga mananap. 16Sulod sa pito ka tuig ilisdan ang iyang tawhanon nga panghunahuna sa panghunahuna sa usa ka mananap. 17Mao kini ang hukom nga gipamantala sa mga anghel aron mahibaloan sa tanan nga ang Labing Halangdon nga Dios nagagahom sa mga gingharian sa mga tawo. Ug mahimo niya kining ihatag kang bisan kinsa nga iyang magustohan, bisan pa sa pinakaubos nga tawo.
18“Mao kadto ang akong damgo. Busa ako, si Haring Nebucadnezar, miingon kang Belteshazar, ‘Suginli ako sa kahulogan niini kay wala gayoy bisan usa sa mga maalamon sa akong gingharian nga makahubad kanako sa kahulogan niini. Apan makahubad ka niini kay ang espiritu sa balaan nga mga dios anaa kanimo.’ ”
Gihubad ni Daniel ang Kahulogan sa Damgo
19Pagkadungog ni Daniel (nga gitawag usab ug Belteshazar) niini, nahilom siya sa makadiyot kay nalisang siya ug nabalaka sa gisulti sa hari bahin sa iyang damgo. Busa miingon ang hari kaniya, “Belteshazar, ayaw kalisang sa akong damgo ug sa kahulogan niini.” Mitubag si Belteshazar, “Mahal nga Hari, maayo unta kon ang imong damgo ug ang kahulogan niini mahitabo ngadto sa imong mga kaaway ug dili kanimo. 20Ang kahoy nga imong nakita nga mitaas ug milig-on hangtod nga misangko sa langit ug nakita sa tanang bahin sa kalibotan, 21nga may matahom nga mga dahon ug daghag mga bunga nga igo makapakaon sa tanan, ug diin mipasilong ang mga mananap ug sa mga sanga niini nagsalag ang mga langgam, 22mao ikaw, Mahal nga Hari. Kay nahimo kang gamhanan hangtod nga ang imong pagkagamhanan misangko sa langit,4:22 ang imong pagkagamhanan misangko sa langit: Tingali ang buot ipasabot, gusto ni Nebucadnezar nga labwan ang Dios. ug nasakop sa imong paghari ang tanang bahin sa kalibotan.
23“Nakita mo usab, Mahal nga Hari, ang usa ka anghel nga nanaog gikan sa langit ug miingon, ‘Putla ninyo ang kahoy apan pasagdi lang ninyo ang tuod ug gamot nga hiniktan ug puthaw ug bronsi, taliwala sa mga sagbot diha sa yuta. Pasagdi siya nga mabasa sa yamog ug mokaon uban sa ihalas nga mga mananap sulod sa pito ka tuig.’
24“Mahal nga Hari, mao kini ang buot ipasabot niadto nga panan-awon nga pagbuot sa Labing Halangdon nga Dios nga mahitabo kini kanimo: 25Abugon ka gikan sa katilingban ug magpuyo ka uban sa ihalas nga mga mananap. Magsabsab ka ug sagbot sama sa baka ug mabasa ka sa yamog. Molabay ang pito ka tuig ayha ka moila nga ang Labing Halangdon nga Dios ang nagagahom sa mga gingharian sa mga tawo ug iya kining ihatag sa gusto niyang hatagan. 26Bahin usab niadtong giingon sa anghel nga pasagdan lang ang tuod, ang buot ipasabot niadto mao nga mahibalik kanimo ang imong gingharian sa higayon nga moila ka nga ang Dios mao gayod ang nagahari sa tanan. 27Busa, Mahal nga Hari, hinaut nga imong dawaton ang akong tambag kanimo: Undangi ang imong pagpakasala. Buhata ang matarong ug kaloy-i ang mga dinaog-daog. Kon imo kanang himuon basin pa kon magpadayon ang imong pagkamauswagon.”
28Kining tanan nahitabo sa kinabuhi ni Haring Nebucadnezar. 29Kay paglabay sa usa ka tuig gikan sa pagsaysay ni Daniel sa kahulogan sa damgo, mao kini ang nahitabo:
Samtang naglakaw-lakaw si Haring Nebucadnezar sa atop sa iyang palasyo sa Babylon 30miingon siya, “Dili ba ni ang Babylon nga akong gitukod pinaagi sa akong kaugalingong kusog ug alang sa akong kadungganan?”
31Wala pa gani siya makahuman niini ug sulti, may tingog gikan sa langit nga miingon, “Haring Nebucadnezar, pamatia kini: Karon gikuha na gikan kanimo ang katungod ingon nga hari. 32Abugon ka gikan sa katilingban sa mga katawhan ug magpuyo ka uban sa ihalas nga mga mananap. Magsabsab ka ug sagbot sama sa baka. Molabay ang pito ka tuig ayha ka moila nga ang Labing Halangdon nga Dios ang nagagahom sa mga gingharian sa mga tawo ug ihatag niya kini sa iyang gustong hatagan.”
33Diha-diha nahitabo kini kang Nebucadnezar. Giabog siya gikan sa katilingban ug misabsab ug sagbot sama sa baka. Nabasa ang iyang lawas sa yamog, ug mitaas ang iyang mga balhibo sama sa balhibo sa agila ug ang iyang mga kuko sama sa kuko sa langgam.
Gipasidunggan ni Haring Nebucadnezar ang Dios
34“Human sa pito ka tuig, ako, si Nebucadnezar, midangop sa Dios,4:34 midangop sa Dios: sa literal, mihangad ako sa langit. ug mibalik ang akong maayong panghunahuna. Busa gidayeg ko ug gipasidunggan ang Labing Halangdon nga Dios nga buhi sa walay kataposan. Miingon ako,
‘Ang iyang paghari walay kataposan; ang iyang gingharian molungtad sa tanang kaliwatan.
35Ubos ra kaayo ang mga tawo sa kalibotan kompara kaniya.
Buhaton niya ang iyang gusto ngadto sa mga anghel sa langit ug sa mga tawo sa yuta.
Walay makapugong kaniya o makapangutana kon nganong gibuhat niya kini.’
36“Dungan sa paghibalik sa akong maayong panghunahuna mibalik usab ang akong dungog ug pagkahalangdon ingon nga hari. Mibalik ang akong mga opisyal ug mga magtatambag, ug nahimo akong mas gamhanan kaysa sa una. 37Busa karon akong dayegon ug pasidunggan ang Hari sa langit, tungod kay husto ug matarong ang tanan niyang binuhatan ug ginapaubos niya si bisan kinsa nga nagapasigarbo.”
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree

To the nations and peoples of every language, who live in all the earth:
May you prosper greatly!
2It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.
3How great are his signs,
how mighty his wonders!
His kingdom is an eternal kingdom;
his dominion endures from generation to generation.
4I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented and prosperous. 5I had a dream that made me afraid. As I was lying in bed, the images and visions that passed through my mind terrified me. 6So I commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be brought before me to interpret the dream for me. 7When the magicians, enchanters, astrologers4:7 Or Chaldeans and diviners came, I told them the dream, but they could not interpret it for me. 8Finally, Daniel came into my presence and I told him the dream. (He is called Belteshazzar, after the name of my god, and the spirit of the holy gods is in him.)
9I said, “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Here is my dream; interpret it for me. 10These are the visions I saw while lying in bed: I looked, and there before me stood a tree in the middle of the land. Its height was enormous. 11The tree grew large and strong and its top touched the sky; it was visible to the ends of the earth. 12Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all. Under it the wild animals found shelter, and the birds lived in its branches; from it every creature was fed.
13“In the visions I saw while lying in bed, I looked, and there before me was a holy one, a messenger,4:13 Or watchman; also in verses 17 and 23 coming down from heaven. 14He called in a loud voice: ‘Cut down the tree and trim off its branches; strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it and the birds from its branches. 15But let the stump and its roots, bound with iron and bronze, remain in the ground, in the grass of the field.
“ ‘Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let him live with the animals among the plants of the earth. 16Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let him be given the mind of an animal, till seven times4:16 Or years; also in verses 23, 25 and 32 pass by for him.
17“ ‘The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people.’
18“This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, for none of the wise men in my kingdom can interpret it for me. But you can, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
Daniel Interprets the Dream
19Then Daniel (also called Belteshazzar) was greatly perplexed for a time, and his thoughts terrified him. So the king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its meaning alarm you.”
Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, if only the dream applied to your enemies and its meaning to your adversaries! 20The tree you saw, which grew large and strong, with its top touching the sky, visible to the whole earth, 21with beautiful leaves and abundant fruit, providing food for all, giving shelter to the wild animals, and having nesting places in its branches for the birds— 22Your Majesty, you are that tree! You have become great and strong; your greatness has grown until it reaches the sky, and your dominion extends to distant parts of the earth.
23“Your Majesty saw a holy one, a messenger, coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump, bound with iron and bronze, in the grass of the field, while its roots remain in the ground. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven; let him live with the wild animals, until seven times pass by for him.’
24“This is the interpretation, Your Majesty, and this is the decree the Most High has issued against my lord the king: 25You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes. 26The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules. 27Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.”
The Dream Is Fulfilled
28All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”
31Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you. 32You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”
33Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird.
34At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
35All the peoples of the earth
are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
or say to him: “What have you done?”
36At the same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor were returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and became even greater than before. 37Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.
