Ang Kabag-ohan nga Gihimo ni Josia
(2 Cro. 34:3-7, 29-33)
1Gipatawag ni Haring Josia ang tanang tigdumala sa Jerusalem ug sa ubang bahin sa Juda. 2Miadto siya sa templo sa Ginoo uban ang tanang katawhan sa Jerusalem ug sa ubang bahin sa Juda—gikan sa labing dungganon hangtod sa labing ubos. 8Gipabalik ni Haring Josia sa Jerusalem ang tanang mga pari nga nagpuyo sa ubang mga lungsod sa Juda. Giguba niya ang mga simbahanan diha sa habog nga mga dapit, gikan sa Geba hangtod sa Beersheba, diin nagsunog ang mga pari ug mga insenso. Giguba niya ang mga halaran nga atua sa pultahan nga gingalan kang Josue, ang tigdumala sa Jerusalem. Kini nga pultahan anaa dapit sa wala sa pultahan sa siyudad inigsulod nimo. 9Ang mga pari nga nagaalagad sa mga simbahanan diha sa habog nga mga dapit wala tugoti nga moalagad sa halaran sa Ginoo sa Jerusalem, apan gitugotan sila nga mokaon sa pan nga walay patubo uban sa ubang mga pari.
10Gipaguba usab ni Haring Josia ang halaran sa Tofet, sa Kapatagan sa Ben Hinom, aron wala na didtoy maghalad sa iyang anak sa kalayo alang kang Molec. 11Gipakuha niya gikan sa pultahan sa templo sa Ginoo ang mga estatuwa nga kabayo nga gihalad sa mga hari sa Juda ngadto sa adlaw. Kini nga mga kabayo anaa mahimutang duol sa kuwarto sa opisyal nga si Natan Melec. Gisunog usab ni Josia ang mga karwahe nga gihalad ngadto sa adlaw.
12Gipaguba niya ang mga halaran nga gipahimo sa mga hari sa Juda didto sa atop sa ibabaw nga kuwarto ni Ahaz, apil ang mga halaran nga gipahimo ni Manase didto sa duha ka hawanan sa templo sa Ginoo. Gipadugmok niya kini ug pino ug gisabwag ang abo sa yuta sa Kidron. 13Gipaguba usab niya ang mga simbahanan diha sa habog nga mga dapit sa sidlakan sa Jerusalem ug sa habagatan sa Bukid sa Kadaotan. Kini nga mga simbahanan gipahimo ni Solomon nga hari sa Israel alang kang Ashtarot, ang mangil-ad nga diosa sa mga Sidonhon, ug alang kang Kemosh, ang ngil-ad nga dios sa mga Moabihanon, ug alang kang Molec, ang ngil-ad nga dios sa mga Amonihanon. 14Gipadugmok niya ang mga handomanan nga bato ug gipangputol ang mga poste nga simbolo sa diosa nga si Ashera. Unya gihugaw-hugawan niya kadtong mga lugara pinaagi sa pagkatag didto ug mga bukog sa mga tawo. 15Bisan ang halaran sa simbahanan diha sa habog nga dapit didto sa Betel iyang gipaguba. Kini nga simbahanan gipahimo ni Jeroboam nga anak ni Nebat, nga mao ang nahimong hinungdan sa pagpakasala sa mga taga-Israel. Gisunog niya kini nga halaran ug gidugmok ug pino. Gisunog usab niya ang poste nga simbolo sa diosa nga si Ashera. 16Samtang nagtan-aw tan-aw siya sa palibot, nakita niya ang mga lubnganan sa kilid sa bungtod. Gipakuha niya ang mga bukog gikan sa mga lubnganan ug gisunog niya didto sa halaran sa Betel sa pagtamastamas niini. Nahitabo kini sumala sa giingon sa Ginoo pinaagi sa iyang alagad nga mitagna niining mga butanga. 17Unya nangutana siya, “Kang kinsang lubnganan kanang anaa sa unahan?” Mitubag ang mga tawo sa lungsod, “Lubnganan kana sa alagad sa Dios nga taga-Juda. Siya ang nagtagna niining imong gihimo karon sa halaran sa Betel.” 18Miingon ang hari, “Pasagdi lang ninyo ang iyang lubnganan. Ayaw ninyo kuhaa ang iyang mga bukog.” Busa wala nila kuhaa ang iyang mga bukog ug ang mga bukog sa propeta nga taga-Samaria.
19Unya giguba ni Haring Josia ang mga simbahanan diha sa habog nga mga dapit didto sa Samaria, sama sa gihimo niya sa Betel. Giselebrar ni Josia ang Pista sa Paglabay sa Anghel
(2 Cro. 35:1-19)
21Nagmando si Haring Josia sa tanang mga tawo, “Saulogon nato ang Pista sa Paglabay sa Anghel sa pagpasidungog sa Ginoo nga atong Dios, sumala sa nahisulat dinhi sa Libro sa Kasabotan.” 22Kay wala gayoy sama niadtong matanga sa pagsaulog sa Pista sa Paglabay sa Anghel sukad sa panahon sa pagdumala sa mga maghuhukom sa Israel ug sa panahon sa mga hari sa Israel ug Juda. 23Gisaulog ang Pista sa Paglabay sa Anghel didto sa Jerusalem sa pagpasidungog sa Ginoo sa ika-18 nga tuig sa paghari ni Josia.
24Gipuo usab ni Josia sa Jerusalem ug sa Juda ang mga espiritista nga nagapakigsulti sa kalag sa mga patay, ang mga dios-dios sa mga panimalay, ang uban pang mga dios-dios, ug ang tanang ngil-ad nga mga butang nga ginasimba sa mga tawo. Gihimo kini ni Josia sa pagtuman sa mga balaod nga nahisulat sa libro nga nakita ni Hilkia nga pari didto sa templo sa Ginoo. 25Sukad-sukad wala pa gayoy hari nga sama kang Josia nga misunod sa Ginoo sa tibuok niyang kasingkasing, sa tibuok niyang kalag, ug sa tibuok niyang kusog. Gituman gayod niya ang tanang Kasugoan ni Moises. Wala usay sama kaniya sa mga hari nga misunod kaniya.
26Apan bisan pa niining tanan, wala gihapon makuha ang kapungot sa Ginoo sa Juda, tungod sa tanang gihimo ni Manase nga nakapasuko gayod kaniya. 27Busa miingon ang Ginoo, “Isalikway ko ang Juda sama sa gihimo ko sa Israel, ug isalikway ko ang Jerusalem, ang siyudad nga akong pinili, ug kining templo nga akong giingon nga dinhi ako pasidunggan.”
Ang Kataposan nga Paghari ni Josia
(2 Cro. 35:20–36:1)
28Ang uban pang sugilanon mahitungod sa paghari ni Josia, ug ang tanan niyang gihimo, nahisulat sa libro sa mga sugilanon bahin sa mga hari sa Juda.
29Sa naghari pa si Josia, si Faraon Neco nga hari sa Ehipto miadto sa Suba sa Eufrates sa pagtabang sa hari sa Asiria. Miadto si Haring Josia ug ang iyang mga sundalo sa pagpakiggira kang Neco, apan gipatay siya ni Neco sa dihang nakita siya niini sa Megido. 30Gikarga sa iyang mga alagad ang iyang patayng lawas sa karwahe balik sa Jerusalem, ug gilubong sa iyang kaugalingong lubnganan. Ang iyang anak nga si Jehoahaz mao ang gipuli sa katawhan sa Juda nga hari pinaagi sa pagdihog kaniya ug lana.
Ang Paghari ni Jehoahaz sa Juda
(2 Cro. 36:2-4)
31Nagaedad si Jehoahaz ug 23 ka tuig sa dihang nahimo siyang hari. Sa Jerusalem siya nagpuyo, ug naghari siya sulod sa tulo ka bulan. Ang iyang inahan mao si Hamutal nga anak ni Jeremias nga taga-Libna. 32Daotan ang iyang gihimo atubangan sa Ginoo, sama sa gihimo sa iyang mga katigulangan. 33Gipriso siya ni Faraon Neco sa Ribla nga sakop sa yuta sa Hamat, aron dili siya makahari sa Jerusalem. Gipabayad ni Neco ang Juda ug 3,400 ka kilong plata ug 34 ka kilong bulawan ingon nga buhis. 34Si Eliakim nga usa usab ka anak ni Josia mao ang gipuli ni Neco kang Josia ingon nga hari. Giilisan ni Neco ang iyang ngalan ug Jehoyakim. Gidala ni Neco si Jehoahaz sa Ehipto ug didto na kini namatay. 35Gipabayad ni Haring Jehoyakim ug buhis ang mga taga-Juda basi sa ilang bahandi, aron makabayad siya sa buhis nga gipangayo ni Faraon Neco.
Ang Paghari ni Jehoyakim sa Juda
(2 Cro. 36:5-8)
36Nagaedad si Jehoyakim ug 25 ka tuig sa dihang nahimo siyang hari. Sa Jerusalem siya nagpuyo, ug naghari siya sulod sa 11 ka tuig. Ang iyang inahan mao si Zebida nga anak ni Pedaya nga taga-Ruma. 37Daotan ang iyang gihimo atubangan sa Ginoo, sama sa gihimo sa iyang mga katigulangan.
Josiah renews the covenant
1Then the king called together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 2He went up to the temple of the Lord with the people of Judah, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests and the prophets – all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the Lord. 3The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord – to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.
4The king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, the priests next in rank and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the Lord all the articles made for Baal and Asherah and all the starry hosts. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron Valley and took the ashes to Bethel. 5He did away with the idolatrous priests appointed by the kings of Judah to burn incense on the high places of the towns of Judah and on those around Jerusalem – those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and moon, to the constellations and to all the starry hosts. 6He took the Asherah pole from the temple of the Lord to the Kidron Valley outside Jerusalem and burned it there. He ground it to powder and scattered the dust over the graves of the common people. 7He also tore down the quarters of the male shrine-prostitutes that were in the temple of the Lord, the quarters where women did weaving for Asherah.
8Josiah brought all the priests from the towns of Judah and desecrated the high places, from Geba to Beersheba, where the priests had burned incense. He broke down the gateway at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua, the city governor, which was on the left of the city gate. 9Although the priests of the high places did not serve at the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, they ate unleavened bread with their fellow priests.
10He desecrated Topheth, which was in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, so no-one could use it to sacrifice their son or daughter in the fire to Molek. 11He removed from the entrance to the temple of the Lord the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun. They were in the court23:11 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain. near the room of an official named Nathan-Melek. Josiah then burned the chariots dedicated to the sun.
12He pulled down the altars the kings of Judah had erected on the roof near the upper room of Ahaz, and the altars Manasseh had built in the two courts of the temple of the Lord. He removed them from there, smashed them to pieces and threw the rubble into the Kidron Valley. 13The king also desecrated the high places that were east of Jerusalem on the south of the Hill of Corruption – the ones Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the vile goddess of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the vile god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the people of Ammon. 14Josiah smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles and covered the sites with human bones.
15Even the altar at Bethel, the high place made by Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin – even that altar and high place he demolished. He burned the high place and ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole also. 16Then Josiah looked around, and when he saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, he had the bones removed from them and burned on the altar to defile it, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by the man of God who foretold these things.
17The king asked, ‘What is that tombstone I see?’
The people of the city said, ‘It marks the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and pronounced against the altar of Bethel the very things you have done to it.’
18‘Leave it alone,’ he said. ‘Don’t let anyone disturb his bones.’ So they spared his bones and those of the prophet who had come from Samaria.
19Just as he had done at Bethel, Josiah removed all the shrines at the high places that the kings of Israel had built in the towns of Samaria and that had aroused the Lord’s anger. 20Josiah slaughtered all the priests of those high places on the altars and burned human bones on them. Then he went back to Jerusalem.
21The king gave this order to all the people: ‘Celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.’ 22Neither in the days of the judges who led Israel nor in the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah had any such Passover been observed. 23But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was celebrated to the Lord in Jerusalem.
24Furthermore, Josiah got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfil the requirements of the law written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had discovered in the temple of the Lord. 25Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did – with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.
26Nevertheless, the Lord did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to arouse his anger. 27So the Lord said, ‘I will remove Judah also from my presence as I removed Israel, and I will reject Jerusalem, the city I chose, and this temple, about which I said, “My Name shall be there.”23:27 1 Kings 8:29’
28As for the other events of Josiah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?
29While Josiah was king, Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went up to the River Euphrates to help the king of Assyria. King Josiah marched out to meet him in battle, but Necho faced him and killed him at Megiddo. 30Josiah’s servants brought his body in a chariot from Megiddo to Jerusalem and buried him in his own tomb. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah and anointed him and made him king in place of his father.
Jehoahaz king of Judah
31Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for three months. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah. 32He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done. 33Pharaoh Necho put him in chains at Riblah in the land of Hamath so that he might not reign in Jerusalem, and he imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents23:33 That is, about 3.4 metric tons of silver and a talent23:33 That is, about 34 kilograms of gold. 34Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt, and there he died. 35Jehoiakim paid Pharaoh Necho the silver and gold he demanded. In order to do so, he taxed the land and exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land according to their assessments.
Jehoiakim king of Judah
36Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for eleven years. His mother’s name was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah; she was from Rumah. 37And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his predecessors had done.
