Ang Paghari ni Ahaz sa Juda
(2 Hari 16:1-4)
1Nagaedad si Ahaz ug 20 ka tuig sa dihang nahimo siyang hari. Sa Jerusalem siya nagpuyo, ug naghari siya sulod sa 16 ka tuig. Daotan ang iyang gihimo atubangan sa Ginoo, dili sama sa gihimo sa iyang katigulangan nga si David. 2Gisunod niya ang mga daotang gawi sa mga hari sa Israel, ug naghimog metal nga mga imahen ni Baal. 3Nagsunog siyag mga halad sa Kapatagan sa Ben Hinom, ug ang iya mismong mga anak gihalad niya sa kalayo. Gisunod niya ang mangil-ad nga mga buhat sa mga nasod nga gipaabog sa Ginoo sa mga Israelinhon. 4Naghalad siyag mga halad ug nagsunog ug insenso sa mga simbahanan diha sa habog nga mga dapit, sa ibabaw sa mga bungtod, ug sa ilalom sa matag labong nga kahoy.
5Busa gitugyan siya sa Ginoo nga iyang Dios ngadto sa hari sa Aram.28:5 Aram: o, Syria. Gipildi siya sa mga Aramehanon ug daghan sa iyang katawhan ang gibihag ngadto sa Damascus. Gitugyan usab siya ngadto sa hari sa Israel, nga mipatay sa daghan niyang katawhan. 6Sa usa lang ka adlaw 120,000 ka mga sundalo sa Juda ang napatay ni Peka nga hari sa Israel, nga anak ni Remalia. Nahitabo kini sa mga taga-Juda tungod kay gisalikway nila ang Ginoo, ang Dios sa ilang mga katigulangan. 7Gipatay ni Zicri, nga usa ka maisog nga sundalo sa Israel,28:7 Israel: sa Hebreo, Efraim. Usa sa mga tribo sa gingharian sa Israel nga nagarepresentar usab sa tibuok gingharian sa Israel. Mao usab sa bersikulo 12. si Maasea nga anak ni Haring Ahaz, si Azrikam nga tigdumala sa palasyo, ug si Elkana nga ikaduha sa hari. 8Gibihag sa mga taga-Israel gikan sa ilang mga kadugo nga mga taga-Juda ang 200,000 ka mga kababayen-an ug mga kabataan. Gipanguha usab nila ang mga kabtangan sa mga taga-Juda ug gidala sa ilang pagbalik sa Samaria.
9May usa ka propeta sa Ginoo didto sa Samaria nga ginganlan ug Oded. Sa dihang miabot ang mga sundalo sa Samaria, gisugat sila ni Oded ug giingnan, “Gitugyan kaninyo sa Ginoo nga inyong Dios ang Juda tungod sa iyang kasuko kanila. Apan gipamatay ninyo sila sa walay kalooy, ug nahibaloan kini sa Ginoo didto sa langit. 10Ug karon buot pa ninyong himuong mga ulipon kining mga lalaki ug babaye nga gikan sa Jerusalem ug sa ubang bahin sa Juda. Wala ba kamoy sala sa Ginoo nga inyong Dios? 11Pamati kamo kanako! Ibalik ninyo ang inyong mga kadugo nga inyong gibihag kay nasuko pag-ayo ang Ginoo kaninyo.”
12Unya ang pipila ka mga pangulo sa Israel nga sila si Azaria nga anak ni Jehohanan, Berekia nga anak ni Meshilemot, Jehizkia nga anak ni Shalum, ug Amasa nga anak ni Hadlai, miuyon kang Obed ug miingon ngadto sa mga sundalo nga bag-ong nangabot gikan sa gira: 13“Ayaw ninyo dad-a dinhi kanang mga bihag, kay manubag kita niana sa Ginoo. Dugangan pa ba ninyo ang atong sala? Daghan na kaayo kitag sala, ug nasuko na pag-ayo ang Ginoo sa Israel.”
14Busa atubangan sa mga pangulo ug sa tibuok katilingban, gibuhian sa mga sundalo ang mga bihag ug gibalik ang mga kabtangan nga ilang nailog gikan sa gira. 15Unya miduol kadtong upat ka pangulo ngadto sa mga bihag, ug gihatagan nila ang hubo nga mga bihag ug bisti gikan sa mga kabtangan nga nailog sa mga sundalo. Gihatagan nila ang mga bihag ug mga bisti, sandalyas, pagkaon, ilimnon, ug gitambalan ang ilang mga samad. Gipasakay nila sa mga asno ang mga maluya, ug gidala nilag balik ang tanan nga bihag sa ilang mga katagilungsod didto sa Jerico, ang Lungsod sa mga Palma. Pagkahuman, namauli sila sa Samaria.
Nagpangayo ug Tabang si Ahaz sa Asiria
(2 Hari 16:7-9)
16Niadtong higayona, nangayog tabang si Haring Ahaz sa hari sa Asiria. 17Kay gisulong na usab sa mga taga-Edom ang Juda ug gibihag ang uban nga mga lumulupyo niini. 18Gawas pa niini, gisulong usab sa mga Filistihanon ang mga lungsod sa Juda nga anaa sa kabungtoran sa kasadpan28:18 kabungtoran sa kasadpan: sa Hebreo, Shefela. ug sa Negev. Nailog nila ang Bet Shemesh, Ayalon, Gederot, Soco, Timnah, ug Gimzo, apil ang mga baryo sa palibot niini. 19Gipaubos sa Ginoo ang Juda tungod kang Haring Ahaz nga mitugot nga magpakasala ang katawhan sa Juda, ug wala gayod siya magmatinumanon sa Ginoo. 20Busa sa pag-abot ni Tiglat Pileser nga hari sa Asiria, gilisod-lisod niya si Ahaz imbis nga tabangan. 21Gipanguha ni Ahaz ang mga kabtangan sa templo sa Ginoo, sa palasyo, ug sa mga balay sa mga opisyal, ug gihatag kini ngadto sa hari sa Asiria. Apan wala kini makatabang kang Ahaz.
22Sa panahon sa iyang kalisod, misamot hinuon kamasinupakon sa Ginoo si Haring Ahaz. 23Naghalad siya ngadto sa mga dios sa Damascus nga mipildi kaniya. Kay miingon siya, “Gitabangan niini nga mga dios ang mga hari sa Aram. Busa maghalad usab ako kanila aron tabangan usab nila ako.” Apan mao kini ang nakapalaglag kaniya ug sa Israel.
24Gipanguha ni Ahaz ang mga kagamitan sa templo sa Dios ug gipangdugmok. Gisirad-an niya ang mga pultahan templo, ug nagpatukod siyag mga halaran sa matag eskina sa Jerusalem. 25Nagpatukod usab siyag mga simbahanan diha sa habog nga mga dapit sa tanan nga lungsod sa Juda, aron didto maghalad alang sa uban nga mga dios. Ug nakapasuko kini pag-ayo sa Ginoo, ang Dios sa iyang mga katigulangan.
26Ang uban pang sugilanon mahitungod sa paghari ni Ahaz ug sa iyang mga binuhatan, gikan sa sinugdan hangtod sa kataposan, nahisulat sa libro sa mga sugilanon bahin sa mga hari sa Juda ug Israel. 27Sa pagkamatay ni Ahaz, gilubong siya sa siyudad sa Jerusalem, apan dili sa lubnganan sa mga hari sa Israel. Ug si Hezekia nga iyang anak mao ang mipuli kaniya ingon nga hari.
Ahaz King of Judah
1Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. Unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. 2He followed the ways of the kings of Israel and also made idols for worshiping the Baals. 3He burned sacrifices in the Valley of Ben Hinnom and sacrificed his children in the fire, engaging in the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. 4He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.
5Therefore the Lord his God delivered him into the hands of the king of Aram. The Arameans defeated him and took many of his people as prisoners and brought them to Damascus.
He was also given into the hands of the king of Israel, who inflicted heavy casualties on him. 6In one day Pekah son of Remaliah killed a hundred and twenty thousand soldiers in Judah—because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors. 7Zikri, an Ephraimite warrior, killed Maaseiah the king’s son, Azrikam the officer in charge of the palace, and Elkanah, second to the king. 8The men of Israel took captive from their fellow Israelites who were from Judah two hundred thousand wives, sons and daughters. They also took a great deal of plunder, which they carried back to Samaria.
9But a prophet of the Lord named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army when it returned to Samaria. He said to them, “Because the Lord, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a rage that reaches to heaven. 10And now you intend to make the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem your slaves. But aren’t you also guilty of sins against the Lord your God? 11Now listen to me! Send back your fellow Israelites you have taken as prisoners, for the Lord’s fierce anger rests on you.”
12Then some of the leaders in Ephraim—Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berekiah son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai—confronted those who were arriving from the war. 13“You must not bring those prisoners here,” they said, “or we will be guilty before the Lord. Do you intend to add to our sin and guilt? For our guilt is already great, and his fierce anger rests on Israel.”
14So the soldiers gave up the prisoners and plunder in the presence of the officials and all the assembly. 15The men designated by name took the prisoners, and from the plunder they clothed all who were naked. They provided them with clothes and sandals, food and drink, and healing balm. All those who were weak they put on donkeys. So they took them back to their fellow Israelites at Jericho, the City of Palms, and returned to Samaria.
16At that time King Ahaz sent to the kings28:16 Most Hebrew manuscripts; one Hebrew manuscript, Septuagint and Vulgate (see also 2 Kings 16:7) king of Assyria for help. 17The Edomites had again come and attacked Judah and carried away prisoners, 18while the Philistines had raided towns in the foothills and in the Negev of Judah. They captured and occupied Beth Shemesh, Aijalon and Gederoth, as well as Soko, Timnah and Gimzo, with their surrounding villages. 19The Lord had humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel,28:19 That is, Judah, as frequently in 2 Chronicles for he had promoted wickedness in Judah and had been most unfaithful to the Lord. 20Tiglath-Pileser28:20 Hebrew Tilgath-Pilneser, a variant of Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came to him, but he gave him trouble instead of help. 21Ahaz took some of the things from the temple of the Lord and from the royal palace and from the officials and presented them to the king of Assyria, but that did not help him.
22In his time of trouble King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the Lord. 23He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus, who had defeated him; for he thought, “Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they were his downfall and the downfall of all Israel.
24Ahaz gathered together the furnishings from the temple of God and cut them in pieces. He shut the doors of the Lord’s temple and set up altars at every street corner in Jerusalem. 25In every town in Judah he built high places to burn sacrifices to other gods and aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of his ancestors.
26The other events of his reign and all his ways, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 27Ahaz rested with his ancestors and was buried in the city of Jerusalem, but he was not placed in the tombs of the kings of Israel. And Hezekiah his son succeeded him as king.
