Ang Pag-ilog sa mga Filistihanon sa sudlanan sa Kasabotan
Unya nakiggira ang mga Israelinhon batok sa mga Filistihanon. Nagkampo ang mga Israelinhon sa Ebenezer, ug ang mga Filistihanon nagkampo sa Afek. 2Misulong ang mga Filistihanon, ug labihan gayod ang ilang panaggira. Gipildi sa mga Filistihanon ang mga Israelinhon; 4,000 ka mga Israelinhon ang ilang napatay. 3Sa dihang mibalik sa kampo ang nahibiling mga Israelinhon, nangutana ang mga tigdumala sa Israel, “Nganong gipasagdan kita sa Ginoo nga mapildi sa mga Filistihanon? Maayo pag atong kuhaon ang sudlanan sa Kasabotan didto sa Shilo, aron ubanan kita sa Ginoo4:3 sa Ginoo: o, niini. ug luwason kita gikan sa atong mga kaaway.”
4Busa gipakuha nila gikan sa Shilo ang sudlanan sa Kasabotan sa Ginoo nga Makagagahom. Ang tabon niining Kahon may estatuwa sa duha ka kerubin, ug nagapuyo ang Ginoo taliwala niini. Miuban sa pagkuha sa Kahon ang duha ka anak ni Eli nga si Hofni ug si Finehas. 5Pag-abot sa sudlanan sa Kasabotan didto sa kampo, misinggit ug kusog ang mga Israelinhon tungod sa kalipay, hinungdan nga natay-og ang yuta. 6Sa dihang nadungog sa mga Filistihanon ang singgit sa mga Israelinhon, nangutana sila, “Nganong naninggit ang mga Hebreo didto sa ilang kampo?”
Sa dihang nahibaloan nila nga miabot na ang Kahon sa Ginoo didto sa kampo sa mga Israelinhon, 7nahadlok sila. Miingon sila, “Delikado kita kay may miabot nga mga dios didto sa kampo sa mga Israelinhon! Wala pa kini mahitabo sukad kaniadto! 8Alaot gayod kita! Kinsa ang makaluwas kanato gikan sa gamhanan nilang mga dios? Sila ang mga dios nga mipatay sa mga Ehiptohanon didto sa kamingawan pinaagi sa nagkalain-laing matang sa mga katalagman. 9Apan magpakalig-on kita ug magmaisogon, kay kon dili, mahimo kitang ulipon sa mga Hebreo sama sa pag-ulipon nato kanila. Busa makiggira gayod kita.”
10Busa nakiggira ang mga Filistihanon, ug napildi nila ang mga Israelinhon. Daghan kaayo ang nangamatay; 30,000 ang napatay nga mga Israelinhon. Ang nahibiling mga Israelinhon nangikyas ug namauli sa ilang gipuy-an. 11Nailog sa mga Filistihanon ang sudlanan sa Kasabotan, ug napatay usab ang duha ka anak ni Eli nga si Hofni ug si Finehas.
Ang Pagkamatay ni Eli
12Niadtong adlawa, may usa ka tawo nga miyembro sa tribo ni Benjamin nga midagan gikan sa panggubatan paingon sa Shilo. Gigisi niya ang iyang bisti ug gibutangan ug abog ang iyang ulo sa pagpakita sa iyang pagsubo. 13-15Pag-abot niya sa Shilo, didto si Eli daplin sa dalan nga nagalingkod sa bangko ug nagabantay tungod kay nabalaka kaayo kini sa Kahon sa Dios.4:13-15 Kahon sa Dios nga mao ang sudlanan sa Kasabotan. Niadtong higayona, 98 ka tuig na si Eli ug halap na.
Unya gibalita sa tawo didto sa lungsod ang nahitabo sa gira. Naniyabaw ang mga tawo sa pagkadungog nila niini. Nadunggan kini ni Eli ug nangutana siya, “Nganong naniyabaw ang mga tawo?” Midali-dali ug duol ang tawo kaniya 16ug miingon, “Bag-o lang gayod akong miabot gikan sa gira. Miikyas ako.” Nangutana si Eli, “Unsay nahitabo, anak?” 17Mitubag ang tawo, “Nangikyas ang mga Israelinhon gikan sa mga Filistihanon ug daghan kaayog nangamatay sa atong mga sundalo, apil na ang imong duha ka anak nga si Hofni ug si Finehas. Ug ang Kahon sa Dios nailog.”
18Sa dihang nahisgotan sa tawo ang bahin sa Kahon sa Dios, natikay-ang si Eli gikan sa iyang gilingkoran didto sa kilid sa pultahan sa lungsod. Nabali ang iyang liog ug namatay siya, kay tambok man gud siya ug tigulang na. Nahimo siyang pangulo sa Israel sulod sa 40 ka tuig.
19Niadto usab nga higayon, ang umagad ni Eli nga asawa ni Finehas manganakay na. Sa dihang nadunggan niya nga nailog ang Kahon sa Dios ug namatay ang iyang bana ug ugangang lalaki, kalit lang siyang nagbati ug naglisod sa pagpanganak. 20Sa dihang himalatyon na siya, miingon ang mga babaye nga nagpaanak kaniya, “Lig-ona ang imong kaugalingon! Lalaki ang imong anak!” Apan wala siya manumbaling ni motubag. 21-22Sa wala pa siya mamatay ginganlan niya ang bata ug Icabod,4:21-22 Icabod: Ang buot ipasabot, wala na ang gahom o presensya (sa Dios). kay miingon siya, “Wala na ang gamhanang presensya sa Dios sa Israel.” Mao kini ang iyang giingon tungod kay nailog ang Kahon sa Dios ug namatay ang iyang bana ug ugangang lalaki.

3¶ And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.4.3 fetch: Heb. take unto us 4So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. 5And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again. 6And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp. 7And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.4.7 heretofore: Heb. yesterday, or, the third day 8Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness. 9Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.4.9 quit…: Heb. be men
10¶ And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man into his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. 11And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.4.11 were slain: Heb. died
12¶ And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head. 13And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out. 14And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli. 15Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.4.15 were dim: Heb. stood 16And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?4.16 is…: Heb. is the thing 17And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken. 18And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
19¶ And his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.4.19 be delivered: or, cry out4.19 came: Heb. were turned 20And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son.
