Ezekiel 3

Ezekiel’s Commission

1He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find [in this book]; eat this scroll, then go, speak to the house of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and He fed me the scroll. He said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll that I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth.

Then He said to me, “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak My words to them. For you are not being sent to a people of unintelligible speech or difficult language, but to the house of Israel, not to many peoples of unintelligible speech or difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. But I have sent you to them who should listen to you and pay attention to My message; yet the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you and obey you, since they are not willing to listen to Me and obey Me, for the entire house of Israel is stubborn and obstinate. Behold, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads. I have made your forehead like emery (diamond), harder than flint. Do not be afraid of them or be dismayed before them, though they are a rebellious house.” 10 Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, receive into your heart all My words which I will speak to you and hear with your ears (listen closely). 11 Go to the [Jewish] exiles [in Babylon], to the children of your people, and speak to them, whether they listen or not, and tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’”

12 Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a great rushing sound behind me, “Blessed be the glory of the Lord in His place [above the expanse].” 13 And then I heard the sound of the wings of the living beings as they touched one another and [I heard] the sound of the wheels beside them, a great rushing sound. 14 So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went embittered [by the sins of Israel] in the rage of my spirit; and the hand of the Lord was strong on me. 15 Then I came to the exiles who lived beside the River Chebar at Tel Abib. I sat there for seven days [in the place] where they were living, overwhelmed with astonishment [by my vision and the work before me].

16 At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 17 “Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman to the house of Israel; whenever you hear a word from My mouth, warn them from Me. 18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You will certainly die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to tell him to turn from his wicked way to save his life, that same evil man will die in his sin, but you will be responsible for his blood. 19 However, if you have warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he will die in his sin; but you have [a]freed yourself [from responsibility]. 20 Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness (right standing with God) and sins, and I place an obstacle before him, he will die; since you have not warned him, he will die in his sin, and the righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered; but you will be responsible for his blood. 21 However, if you have warned the righteous man not to sin and he does not sin, he will surely live because he took warning; also you have [b]freed yourself [from responsibility].”

22 The hand of the Lord was on me there, and He said to me, “Arise, go out to the plain, and I will speak to you.” 23 So I got up and went out to the plain; and behold, the glory and brilliance of the Lord was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the River Chebar, and I fell face downward. 24 Then the Spirit entered me and made me stand on my feet; He spoke and said to me, “Go, shut yourself up in your house. 25 As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and bind you with them so that you cannot go out among them. 26 And I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you cannot talk and you cannot be a man who rebukes the people, for they are a rebellious house. 27 But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth and you will say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses [to hear], let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.

1祂對我說:「人子啊,你要把得到的吃下去,要吃下這書卷,然後去向以色列人傳講。」 我張開口,祂就給我吃那書卷, 對我說:「吃下我賜你的這書卷,讓它充滿你的肚腹。」我便吃了,書卷在我嘴裡甘甜如蜜。

祂又對我說:「人子啊,現在你要到以色列人那裡,把我的話傳給他們。 你不是奉命去語言不通的民族那裡,而是到以色列人當中。 我不是派你到那些語言陌生、難懂、你聽不明白的民族中。我若果真派你到他們那裡,他們一定會聽你的話。 然而以色列人卻不肯聽從你,因為他們頑固不化,不肯聽從我。 不過,我要使你的臉像他們的臉一樣硬,使你的額像他們的額一樣硬。 我要使你的額比火石更硬,如同金剛石。他們雖然是一群叛逆的人,你不要害怕,也不要因為他們的臉色而驚慌。」 10 祂又說:「人子啊,你要留心聽我說的一切話,牢記在心。 11 你要到你那些被擄的同胞那裡,不論他們聽不聽,你都要向他們宣告,『主耶和華這樣說。』」

12 那時,靈把我舉起,我聽見後面有隆隆的聲音說:「耶和華的榮耀在祂的居所當受稱頌!」 13 我聽見活物的翅膀相碰的聲音,以及他們旁邊的輪子發出的隆隆聲。 14 靈把我舉起帶走了。我心裡苦悶,充滿憤怒,耶和華大能的手在我身上。 15 我來到住在提勒·亞畢的被擄的人中,在迦巴魯河邊。我感到無比震驚,在他們中間坐了七天。


16 過了七天,耶和華對我說: 17 「人子啊,我立你做以色列人的守望者,你要把我告誡他們的話告訴他們。 18 當我說某個惡人必滅亡時,如果你不告誡他,勸告他痛改前非,挽救他的性命,他必死在自己的罪中,而我要追究你的責任。 19 如果你已經告誡他,他還是不肯離開自己的邪惡和罪行,他必死在罪惡之中,而你必免於罪責。 20 如果一個義人偏離正道、犯罪作惡,我會使他跌倒,他必死亡。如果你不告誡他,他必死在罪惡之中,他以前的義行也不會被記念,而我要追究你的責任。 21 如果你告誡他不要犯罪,他聽了你的告誡不再犯罪,他必保住性命,你也必免於罪責。」

22 在那裡,耶和華的手按在我身上,對我說:「你起來前往平原,我要在那裡對你說話。」 23 我到了平原,看見耶和華的榮耀停在那裡,那榮耀和我在迦巴魯河邊所見的一樣,我就俯伏在地。 24 這時靈進入我裡面,使我站立起來。耶和華對我說:「你要把自己關在房子裡。 25 人子啊,他們必把你捆綁起來,使你不能到百姓當中。 26 同時,我要使你的舌頭緊貼上膛,使你不能開口責備他們,因為他們是一群叛逆的人。 27 但當我對你說話的時候,我必開啟你的口,你要向他們宣告,『主耶和華這樣說。』肯聽的就讓他聽,不肯聽的就由他不聽,因為他們是一群叛逆的人。」
