law
The first five books of the Old Testament are called the Law. They contain all God's rules for how Israel was to worship him and live together as his people.
Because of the sinful nature of all people, this holy law of God could not produce righteousness. So Jesus freely invites people to show themselves a part of the community of God by living like him.
Law can refer to all the practical instructions God still wants his people to obey. This law helps people show their love for God. It tells them how to live together peacefully.
Real freedom is found in keeping God's perfect law. This is the new command to love one another.
