Help Searching the Bible using Bible Verses or Passages

  • Incorrect spelling will cause a 'Not Found' notice (a common issue). If you are unsure about how to spell a particular book of the Bible, you may browse by book listing or use abbreviations.

    Common misspellings:
    Incorrect: Phillippians; Correct: Philippians
    Incorrect: Galations; Correct: Galatians
    Incorrect: Mathew; Correct: Matthew

  • Do not use Roman numerals for volume numbers. For example, 2 Corinthians is correct; II Corinthians is not correct. While we understand that some use I, II or III for book volumne numbers; however, these are actually letters and the computer program can not convert these to numbers.

  • Reference is limited to a single chapter at a time. For example, John 1 will work but John 1-5 will not [as well as John 1:1-5:10].

  • Capitalization is not important for the search results.

  • Searching for chapter numbers or verse numbers that do not exist will also return a 'Not Found' notice. Browse by book listing if you are unsure of the chapter numbers.

  • You can search for multiple references at one time [maximum 5]. For example, if you wish to search for John 1:1; Matthew 3:1-2; and Genesis 1; the format that you would type would be: John 1:1; Matthew 3:1-2; Genesis 1. Separate references by a semicolon.

  • If you select more than one version, you have the option of displaying the results in column or row format. Column format is a good way to compare the various versions side-by-side. There is a three (3) column maximum display because of page width formatting [it will then default to row].
